Wednesday, February 5, 2020 - Warm Morning; Now, It's Cold?; Another Mail Run; Don-Wes Flea Market; Lunch with Friends; No Fire Tonight; Low Key Evening

It was about 5:30 when I woke this morning and the temperatures was still 71 inside, and 66 outside.  However, by the time Dean got up an hour or so later, the temperatures were starting to drop and we had to close the windows we had left open last night.

We have another busy day planned.  By the time we had our breakfast, showers, and straightened things up a bit, we headed outside to be met by even cooler temperatures.  We ended up with heavier coats than expected.  The wind was really blowing which makes it worse.

Our first stop was at the post office.  I had a new email this morning that my final package had arrived at the Mission Post Office, but they were unable to locate it.  Hmmmm!  I'll try again tomorrow.  I sure hope it's there.  Since it's from Amazon it does have a tracking number - so they should be able to track it down.  Oh well, tomorrow is another day, it's not something I have to have today, so I'm sure it will show up.

Our next stop was Don-Wes, a flea market in Donna, TX, where we met up with our friends Frank and Joyce.  We haven't seen them since we spent a week with them in Yellowstone last year, so it was great to catch up.  I failed to get a picture of us.  I was going to ask the waiter to take a group picture, but I think we were talking too much, or maybe it was the chips and salsa that distracted me.  Where's that string?  Betty....I need your help!!

I specifically wanted to stop at Don-Wes for sunglasses.  I bought a pair there last year that go over my prescription glasses and I really liked them.  When we went to Florida to see my step-brother last year I forgot and left them at his house.  I didn't realize it until a day or so later after we had left the state.  Today I bought two pairs.  They were only $9 each - and they are more attractive than the $25 ones I've purchased in the past.

A black pair and a purple pair with a little bling on the sides.

This is a neat little vegetable peeler I bought.

What's left of Dean's chocolate peanut clusters.  I need to hide them and only dole out one or two a day.  Lol!!  I did eat a couple of them - so it wasn't just him!

We stopped at the vegetable/fruit market where I bought a pineapple and some radishes.  We made one last stop before we left, at the nut house, to get Dean some chocolate peanut clusters.

They have a number of nutcrackers on display around the Nut House Store.
Don-Wes is a flea market selling mostly new items in the big building, but there are a number of booths, and a number of outside booths/areas with previously owned items for sale.  You can find games, mostly those played here in the Valley, cribbage, cards, peg n jokers, as well as card shufflers, dice, etc.; a kitchen store; many homemade items; clothing; bathing suits; socks; signs; jellies; popcorn, a full restaurant; magnetic bracelets, necklaces, etc; Outside are several other places including a couple of vegetable/fruit stands; flea market type items; bicycle shop; golf shop; a canvas shop where you can have outdoor awnings and other similar items made, slide toppers for RV's, etc.  It's just a neat place to visit.  It was very cool outside today and the wind was blowing, so we didn't tarry in getting inside to warm up a bit.

We left there about 11:15.  We led the way with Frank and Joyce following us to Cafe de Marisco in nearby Weslaco to have lunch.  We've been here several times with our Heartland friends, in fact just a couple of days ago.  There are many choices to choose from and today Dean and I had their Wednesday special of chicken tacos.  Joyce and Frank chose a combo plate with 1 of several items.  I think I prefer the chicken over the beef fajitas we had Monday, although both were very good.  The chicken tacos were smaller, the shells were lightly fried and held together well.  The salsa was still quite warm today but it wasn't as hot as what we had a couple of days ago.  Still, I paced myself after I felt like the roof of my mouth was on fire Monday.

After our dinner we remained at our table for nearly an hour or so just visiting and catching up with each other.  At this point we are not sure if our paths will cross again any other time this year, but we'll keep track of each other and get together if we can.  We gave our goodbye hugs, then headed our separate ways.

We needed to make a stop at Walmart for a few things and another one at Home Depot for something Dean needed.  I waited in the truck for him.  I was tired of that cold wind and we were parked in the south forty!  Lol!

After we returned to the park, we spent the remainder of the afternoon inside, dozing and reading.  A little before 5, we started to get around to get the fire genie lit, when Deb sent a text to let Dean know that Lin had a golf date set for tomorrow, and they would need to leave at 9.  I asked her if we were going to get together tonight, but since it is so cold, she said it was cancelled.  It's too bad it had to be so cold this evening since Mike and Peg are leaving tomorrow morning around 8.  Most likely we will not see them again until next winter here in Texas.  We will go over to say our goodbyes in the morning before they leave.

I made sandwiches for dinner, adding a few carrots and some garden vegetable dip as a side.  After that big lunch I didn't need much.  Dean had a snack later in the evening but I was still too full to even think about more food.  Dean watched TV and I read and listened to a few podcasts on my phone.  We are hoping for warmer weather tomorrow!

We are thankful for a warm home when the temperatures drop and the wind blows.
