Friday, February 21, 2020 - Happy Birthday to My Sister Crystal!; Coachlight RV Park in Las Cruces, NM

Friday, February 21, 2020 - Happy Birthday to My Sister Crystal!; Coachlight RV Park in Las Cruces, NM

This is the last long distance drive we have planned for this trip and we are  thankful.  These 6+ hour days are wearing, even when we have several days in between.

First thing this morning I sent birthday wishes to my sister Crystal - #3 in the line of us four girls.  I am so extremely blessed to have such wonderful sisters.

We left Marathon RV Park at 9:00 a.m. this morning.
Scenery along the way

We stopped here for a break - only to find Presidio, NM is the oldest town in America.

Pecan groves

Various scenery along our way.

Another rest stop on our route through Texas.

Beautiful bridges over the Interstate in El Paso, TX.

Welcome to New Mexico
We took I-10 through El Paso and into Las Cruces, where we took Exit 139 to Motel Blvd, turned left and as we drove under the Interstate we could see Coachlight RV Park.  Easy off, and it will be easy to get back on when we leave.

The RV Park is located behind a Motel, with the entrance between the Motel and the Restaurant next door.  We were not sure where we needed to go as we pulled forward. The owner/manager came out and waved for us to pull close to the restaurant wall to park.  We stopped to pay our fee, and to obtain our site number.  We paid for three nights, but asked her if our mail did not arrive tomorrow (Saturday), could we extend our stay an additional day.  She told us it would be fine.

When I was seeking a park to stay at in Las Cruces, I checked the reviews on RV Parky, the app I use to route our travels.  The reviews for Coachlight RV Park were mixed, but overall I felt they were positive enough to give it a try.  I'm so glad we did.  While it was a gravel lot, the roads into and throughout the park were wide, making it easy to maneuver, and there was a nice distance between each site.  I was amazed at the number of RV's that moved in by late afternoon.  The park filled up quick.  A few sites appeared to be long term residents however their sites were nicely kept.  A DRV Mobile Suite pulled in next to us within a short time after our arrival.  When Dean came in, he told me the couple was from Springfield, MO.  Later we noticed the RV in front of us was from Johnson County, KS.  We never saw the couple from KS but Dean spoke with our next door neighbor a couple of times.

Coachlight RV Park is a Passport America park.  We have used Passport America at almost every stop on this trip.  It is a camping membership that offers reduced rates.  Most of the parks offer 50% savings.  Sometimes they are limited to one or two nights, but some offer the discount for your entire stay.  It is the best discount membership we have.  If we can find a PA park, that's typically our choice.

It was 1:50 pm when we arrived at the park - but here in Las Cruces, NM it is Mountain Time, so our bodies still felt as if it was actually 2:50.  I'm glad we will be here for 3 days to give us time to adjust to this 1 hour time change.  Once we unhooked the truck from the RV, Dean went to the panel inside the bay to put the levelers down but the screen was blank.  Fortunately, he remembered the process and while nothing shows up on the screen everything worked okay, and he was able to level the RV just fine.  Unfortunately, we just replaced this part about 14 months ago.

By the time Dean got everything set up outside and I had everything set up inside we just chilled the rest of the evening.  We had leftover chicken & rice for dinner.  I'm thankful we both love leftovers, especially when we've had a long day on the road.

We tried very hard to make it to 10:00 Mountain Time - but I think we finally gave up at 9:30 (what would be 10:30 at home).  It was a long day, but after a good night's rest, we will look forward to finding things to see and do for the remainder of our stay.

  1. We love New Mexico. State park rates drop considerably in that state and that means a lot to us Canadians. Can't beat $14 - 18/night for a beautiful stay.
Enjoy Coachlight RV Park. P.A. sounds like a decent membership to hold.
