Today is our granddaughter Haleigh's birthday.  She is 17 years old.  She is our second grandchild, and first granddaughter.  I can still remember how excited I was to see the red fuzz on her little head when she was born.  I was hoping she would be born on my birthday, but she was stubborn and wanted a day of her own, arriving one week later.  She still has a mind of her own today.  Happy birthday Haleigh!!  We love you!

Close to 8am, Jarred and Emerson stopped by to drop off the infant car seat so we would have it for Matt's little guy Sam when we pick them up on November 10th.  The entire backseat of the truck is now full of baby paraphernalia.  We both got one last big hug from Emerson and Jarred before they left.

We did not rush to get around this morning and it was 10:00am before we pulled out of Maple Village RV Park.  It was really overcast this morning at 60 degrees, with a little wind.  We flew through Wichita since there was little traffic on US400.  On Saturday when we returned from Winfield after Abram's game, traffic in the eastbound lane was backed up for a half mile or so due to construction on US400 near I-235.  Dean remarked we needed to think of taking an alternate route when we head back to Oswego.  We never thought of that at all this morning and traffic never slowed once on our way out of town.  We were very thankful for that.

I love the moodiness of the clouds, the beautiful browns, golds, reds in the trees, the grass and the reflection of the skies in the pond of the one picture.  No matter the weather, this area of Kansas is always beautiful. 

We hit both rest stops on US400 on the way home - at Beaumont and just outside of Cherryvale.  We pulled into Hillside RV Park at 1:20pm, into the same site we were in before.  We will be here for the next 10 days and look forward to visiting with family members and friends during that time.

The globe on the left came unscrewed from the panel, and evidently was swinging around and broke the middle globe.  We have had problems with the middle globe loosening up but we've never noticed any problems with the other two.  I guess we'll be trying to find some new hanging lamps next time we are in Joplin.  I really liked these globes and hate to lose them, but compared to many other things that could go wrong - this is small.

Dean grabbed the vacuum and together we got the mess cleaned up - glass was on the floor, in the sinks, on the counters, and the table.  Thank goodness we did not find any glass on the new chairs.   Then he had the job of getting the remaining glass off of the middle light fixture, and rescrewing the light back into the light panel above.  

It was about 4 or so and I realized that Haleigh had not responded to the birthday wish I sent her this morning, so I called her.  She told me she was just getting ready to call me to see if we could take her to Columbus to meet her mom.  Misti is doing her first clinicals in Miami, OK this week.  Misti and Haleigh had plans to have dinner and go to a movie tonight in Pittsburg for Haleigh's birthday, so of course we said we would take her over.

It was around 5:45 when Misti arrived.  After they left, we talked about what we were going to do for dinner.  I didn't have anything laid out, so we decided to drive to Chetopa and eat at the Hornet's Nest.  We walked in to find one of my high school classmates, Jamie and her husband Kenny there as well.  I ordered and while Dean paid I stopped to visit with them for a few minutes.  It was great to see them.

Once we returned to the RV Park, we had barely walked in the door when the rain started.  We were so glad we made it inside ---- but it was only for a few minutes ---- and then it stopped!  It is supposed to get down to 49 degrees tonight and only get to 55 degrees tomorrow.  That's still not too bad - good sweatshirt weather!

It's good to be back in Oswego for awhile.  We'll get the chance to spend time with our kids in the area, and to see my sisters and other family members.  Plus I use the downtime here to get caught up on projects I need to do, and I have a list!

It has been another great day!

We purposely stayed an extra day as we had a few things we wanted to do before heading back to Oswego.  We enjoy having breakfast out and its been a few days (haha); so we looked for a new place to try and found "Homegrown".  As far as location, we could not have selected a better restaurant to fit in with the things we wanted to do today.  Located at 29th & Maize, we pulled in a little after 8.  It was located in a small, relatively new, strip mall.

We were seated pretty quick.  I had checked out the menu online so I knew what I wanted to order and after Dean took a look at it, he decided on his regular meal of eggs and sausage that included rosemary potatoes and wheat toast.  He really liked his meal.  I chose eggs benedict that included roasted turkey, avocado, and tomatoes.  They were good but two benedicts was way too much food.  When the waitress picked up our plates I asked her if there was an option to only order one of the benedicts.  She said several people had inquired about that but the manager had declined to offer it with just one.  That's disappointing since the one was plenty for me.  I only ate a few bites of the potatoes and a few bites of the second one.  However, despite that, the food was very good and we would not hesitate to return.  I would just choose something different next time. 

Our next stop was across the street at Sam's to pick up a few items we use regularly in bulk because of the savings, since we have the room to store them.  I also wanted to check out a few resale shops.  There were four along Tyler heading south so they were right on the path we wanted to take to end up at son Jarred's house around noon.  All three were a bust - the Goodwill was fairly new and there just wasn't much available compared to others I have visited; the second one was geared to young people; and the third and fourth ones were closed on Monday.  We were not too far from a Khol's so I suggested we see if they had anything on sale I might like.  I was looking for a few long sleeve shirts for the coming winter weather.  Fortunately, I found two I really liked for $10 each so I was happy we stopped even though the 20% coupon I had expired the day before.  Dean wanted to stop at Lowe's and we spent some time walking around in there, before our last stop at Jarred's (just around the corner) where we picked up granddaughter Emerson for one last visit before we leave for Oswego tomorrow. 

I fixed grilled cheese sandwiches for our lunch when after we returned to Benltey.  Emmy and I shared one.  Then we had a few grapes and apples.  She has a good appetite.

After lunch she played for a while, teasing Papa about his neck pillow being her pillow.  She became attached to it when she stayed with us the first time on this trip and her and Papa have had great fun with that.  A little after 2pm, she wanted to lay down and listen to music on her Ipad.  After about thirty minutes or so, she was sound asleep and slept until it was time to take her back home about 4:30.

I spent the afternoon doing laundry, getting a few pre-travel things done by putting away some of the things we would not need before we leave tomorrow, and updating our budget report, which was way behind.  Dean did some pre-travel chores outside as well.

With the Chromebook I can not use Microsoft Word or Excel programs in Google but I can save them from Word and Excel in a Google format, which I did last week with the buget program.  I input a number of receipts into the program by inividual day, and color coded each one. I do this so as I can easily check them against our bank account, credit card reports and those paid in cash, to make sure everything is included for the month.  Occasionally we lose a receipt and then I can pick those up from the other reports.  After I was done, I closed the program.  I realized I forgot to input a couple of recipts and when I reopened it - none of the information I just input was there.  I probably spent at least an hour - maybe more doing all of this.  I was pretty frustrated.  I tried several different things to be sure it just wasn't there.  Google automatically saves as you input info in, but for some reason it just didn't work.  I put it away for later since Emerson was now awake, and we needed to take her home.

After we dropped Emerson off with Mom and Dad, we decided to stop at the Golden Corral just a short distance from their house.  I like it  for their salad bar and all of the vegetables they have on their buffet, plus one of my favorites - their bread pudding.  However, I was disappointed this is the first GC without the bread pudding on their buffet.  😞

Our final stop was at Dillon's on our way back to the RV Park.  I purchased a few grocery items and before we left Dean filled the truck with diesel at 2.97/gallon.  We like that price!

Even thought I was going to have to do this a second time, I really wanted to get the budget updated, so I input each of the receipts again, but instead of doing them all at once - I did just a few, then closed out of Google Docs to see if it was saving the information.  I did this twice before finally finishing it up - and it saved everytime.  I don't know why it didn't work before but fortunately it worked just fine this time and hopefully I will not have this problem again.

I had one last load of laundry to do and I started it prior to the input of receipts in our budget file.  It had been running for qute awhile, when Dean noticed the lights flasing on the front of it.  I pulled out our manual that came with it to see what might be going on. Dean ended up unplugging it and letting it set for a minute before plugging it back in as the manual suggested.  Once he did that, we were able to open the machine.  Since it is both a washer and dryer, you have to set the knobs a certain way if you want to wash only.  Once the wash cycle is completed then you can set the dryer to operate separately; or you can set it to wash and then dry immediately afterwards right from the start - which I never do.  When I looked at it closer, I saw what happened.  I turned the dryer portion off from the previous load, but I turned it one notch past OFF, and it was set on the longest drying  selection.  I was pretty upset since it was our good shirts.  Fortunately, all seemed well other than they were slightly wrinkled but fortunately they were still slightly damp as it did not finish the previous cyce.  I laid them out on the island on top of each other and left them for awhile.  This is what the "Wrinkle Free Laundry" manual I purchased from Sandra Jones on operating the Splendide machine says to do for shirts.  Later I folded them and put them back in the dryer for a 20 minute cycle and then hung them in the shower to finish drying over night since they still had a light dampness to them.  I'm hoping when I check them in the morning the few remaining wrinkles will be gone.  I know I will sure double check where I turn the dial in the future. 
Update:  This morning they were dry, and the wrinkles were gone!  All is well.

I mentioned yesterday that son Matt & family are going to visit Kansas in a couple of weeks.  They are flying from Buffalo, with a stop in Chicago before arriving in Kansas City.  Rather than haul all the things they will need for the kids on the plane (car seats, pack and play, etc.) Jarred and Andrea are sending all of these things back to Oswego with us since we will be picking them up at the airport in KC.  The back seat of the truck has a large saucer play stand for Sam to use (he loves his), a pack and play for Sam to sleep in, two carseats - one for Sam and one for Sarah, and we have a booster seat in storage that we can use for Josh.  I can't imagine trying to wrestle all of that at the airport.  We are so thankful Jarred and Andrea still have all of these things they can use since they will be here for 10 days.  They will definitely be needed.  As we packed things in the truck, Jarred realized he forgot the infant car seat so he will bring it by in the morning on his way to work - and we'll get to see Emerson one more time before we leave.

Soon after I was up I had a load of clothes in the washer and I was enjoying my first cup of coffee.  Yum!  I so enjoy the quiet of morning and my coffee. 

We attended church services at Pathway Church this morning at 10:30, so we were not in a rush to get around and we took advantage of a little leisure time before we got ready.  Jarred oversees a part of Pathway called the Cafe - making sure it is setup, giving a short message/devotion before the main sermon, and providing announcements.  This morning he was observing someone else who provided the short message prior to the main sermon.  The cafe section is set up with tables and chairs and provides a more relaxed area than the main sanctuary.  One of the pastors provides the main sermon from the sanctuary at this location, then it is televised to the Cafe and other Pathway churches located around the Wichita area.  This morning their lead pastor, Todd C, provided the sermon which was quite good, reminding us of the need to invite others to church.  

Jarred, his wife Andrea and their daughter Emerson, and Dean and I headed to Heath's afterwards to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the Denver Broncos.  Yesterday while we were at Heath's we told him we'd pay for pizzas today, if he would order and pick them up and he said sure.  As we pulled up at his house, he was just leaving to go pick them up.  Dean rode with him and I went on inside.  Casey and the boys were outside finishing up some work in the backyard.  Jarred showed up a short time later and we visited until everyone got back.  Andrea and Emerson arrived a short time after the guys returned with the pizzas.  Heath ordered the pizzas from Casey's General Store.  I don't normally care for them, but these were really quite good.  It seemed like these pizza "makers" took the sauce almost to the edge of the crust as well as the toppings.  The ones we've had in the past have had a large thick edge of just crust around them.  Maybe it was the "pizza maker" that day!

We all enjoyed watching the game and everyone was happy that our Chiefs won another game.  This has been a great season for the Chiefs and we sure hope it continues.  We'd love to see them in the Super Bowl.

We started out watching the game upstairs, but after we ate, we moved downstairs where there is more seating and the kids had more room to play.  Emerson was having a great time playing with her three boy cousins, and I think they enjoyed having her there as well.

Andrea shared this picture of Emerson yesterday in her Halloween costume of Mary Poppins!  They attended a Halloween event in downtown Wichita yesterday at Cowtown.  Of course, we think she makes a perfect Mary Poppins!

After the Chiefs won, the Packers game came on (I can't remember who they were playing) and we left sometime after 5.  We were both hungry when we returned to Bentley, so we had our leftovers - I ate the rest of my salad from yesterday at noon, and Dean ate my baked potato with brisket from last night.  After that we just crashed in front of the TV from the full weekend of activities we've had here.  We have really enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with both boys and their families.  

One thing we've noticed in visiting our kids that have moved away from Oswego - while we see them less, we probably spend more quality time with them.  Only being here for a few days, we seem to pack alot in; as compared to our kids that live close to Oswego, who we typically see more often, but spend smaller bites of time with.  We are just thankful we get to see and spend time with all of them - whether it is in person or via Skype, Duo or other similar applications on our phones.  We have many more opportunities available to us to stay in touch, as compared to what most grandparents had even ten to twenty years ago.  The ability to see each other while talking on the phone really keeps us in touch with Matt and his family who we usually only see once every two years.

Speaking of Matt and his family, they are traveling to Kansas the week before Thanksgiving for about 10 days.  Everyone is looking forward to seeing them.  The younger grandchildren were either toddlers or infants and don't really remember meeting each other or they haven't met at all, except through phone conversations, so it will be lots of fun to watch them actually interacting with each other one on one.

It was another great day!

I woke up a little before 5 and decided to go ahead and get up.  I was wide awake so may as well enjoy it.  After turning on the coffee pot I worked on my blog post for Friday.  I was happy to get it completed and posted before we left for the day.  

Heath's oldest son Abram is in 5th grade and plays football in Goddard.  His team traveled to Winfield today to play Wellington at their Recreation Complex.  We allowed a little over an hour to get there and that worked just about perfect for us.  We enjoyed watching the game.  While they did not win, we thought Abram played a really good game.  We enjoyed visiting with Heath & Casey and the other two boys, GIdeon and Roman as well, throughout the game.

Abram played both offensive and defensive line for most of the game. 

It was a beautiful day.  While the temps never reached 60 - it felt like it was well into the 70's.  I wore a lightweight flannel shirt over a T-shirt and it wasn't long before the flannel shirt came off.  The sun really was bearing down on us and I'm thankful it wasn't really 70 or 80 degrees outside.  Sometimes we just do not realize how quickly the sun can warm us up.  No complaints though!

Abram had to be at the game early, so the rest of the family went to Walmart after they dropped him off.  They had a clearance on these caricature heads at a great price.  These are two they bought.

After the game we followed Heath & family back to Wichita where we had lunch together at McAlister's.  We really love this place.  I ordered a southwest cobb salad and Dean had a club sandwich.  My salad was HUGE, and I brought half of it home.  

We drove to their house after lunch.  We had a great visit.  Casey showed us the changes they have made to their house since we last visited  I'm not sure when that was.  We last saw them in May when we were here for Gideon's birthday party at the bowling alley, but we drove home after the party. 

The younger boys were upstairs in separate bedrooms.  They moved them downstairs where Casey had her office (she moved her office to the main floor in one of the bedrooms they were using).  What a great room for these two boys.  It is quite large and it is a wonderful place for them to play, do their homework and sleep.  Abram's room was already downstairs and I think they are enjoying being on the same floor together.  They put new flooring downstairs in the area where their pool table and wet bar is located.  I loved the flooring.  In addition they had repainted all of the walls and cabinetry as well.  Casey does an excellent job of decorating and as expected, did a beautiful job on this renovation as well.

I enjoyed visiting with Heath about the upcoming elections, and his work and involvemnt with special education groups/conferences.  We are very proud of him and Casey both for their work in this field.

I went downstairs and played air hocky with Abram and then Roman.  That was alot of fun and about wore me out for two back to back 15 minute games.  I had no idea how much exercise you can get from a game like that.  I really enjoyed it and spending time with these two boys.  

Abram and Gideon are both involved in music.  Abram is plaing the cello - something I always wanted to learn to play so I'm really happy he is interested in it.  Gideon has both a guitar and a ukelele.  He played and sang "You are My Sunshine" on the ukelele for me.  He did a good job, especially since he is only 10 and has learned it on his own by watching U Tube.

Later I played a game of Clue with Roman and Abram.  Casey helped Roman get started.  I have not played Clue in years.  It was a favorite game to play with friends when I was their age.  I had to have them go through the rules with me to refresh my memory and Abram ended up winning the game.

We visited for awhile longer before we headed back to Bentley.  Jarred called us later to see if we wanted to get together after he leaves church.  Jarred works at Pathway Church and is their Home Teams Director.  He attends all of their church services and we will meet up with him after tonight's service.  They have two services on Sunday morning and one on Saturday evening, with many other activities and gatherings through the week.  

Jarred called us when he left the church and we met him at his house, where we rode along to meet his wife Andrea, Emmy, Andrea's parents Bill and Diane, and her sister Kelly and husband Chris at Hog Wild BBQ.  I ordered a baked potato with brisket.  It was very good but HUGE.  I ended up saving over half of it to take home.  When I eat my leftover salad from last night, I'll let Dean have my baked potato.  We love leftovers from takeout almost as much as leftovers from home - especially when they are as good as these two meals were.

Bill and Diane bought a new house earlier this year.  They invited us over to their house after dinner.  Emerson was pretty excited to take us on a full tour!  She was having a great time showing us her play room and play areas.  She made it alot of fun!  What a beautiful home they have.  I know they will enjoy many family gatherings in it.  They have a backyard that is pretty well an open slate for landscaping.  Their previous home was beautifully landscaped by them so I know it will be a labor of love as they work on this new one.  

It was another great day!

When I got up a little before 5:00 this morning and came downstairs, Emerson was laying on the floor with a blanket and her pillow, even though the "bed" Dean made up for her on the couch was still there.  I waited until about 6:00 before I started the coffee.  I wasn't sure if she would sleep through the noise or not and I thought it might be a long day for her if she was up this early.

I used the time to work on a blog post and read a few blogs I follow.  I heard Dean stirring so I turned the coffeepot on a little before 6:00.  It was close to 6:45 before Emerson woke up.  We asked her why she moved to the floor.  She said she tried to get in bed with us, but she couldn't (the bed is a little high for her to climb into) so she just came back downstairs and laid on the floor.  Fortunately, she seemed fine with the turn out so we didn't make a big deal out of it.  The electric furnace was on and she was on the floor near it so I know she stayed warm - which would be my main concern.

After I showered, we loaded up and made a visit to Lamar's - one of our favorite stops when we are in Wichita.  They make some of the best apple fritters and we had a hankering for one.  Emerson was excited about getting a donut.  Once we arrived we ordered our food, with chocolate milk for Em and coffee for us.  Ohhh - they were so good.

We returned to the RV, calling Jarred on the way, so he could meet us there.  I managed to get a few pictures.

We (Em, Daddy Jarred, Papa & Nana) are all going to P & M Pumpkin Ranch near Moundridge, KS this morning.  Dean wasn't too excited about this - he didn't care about seeing a bunch of pumplins.  Jarred wanted to know if he had ever visited one.  When he said no - Jarred said I think you'll enjoy it - they have lots of activities for the kids.  While I've never been to one either, I did have an idea of how much they do in order to bring folks out to visit their sites.  Dean was just blown away with everything they had for the kids (and parents/grandparents) to do.  It was great exercise too for all of the walking we were able to get in while we were there.

I'm going to tell you about it with pictures and notations under each one.  Emerson had a season ticket and Dean and I were able to get in as Seniors for $7 each.  Regular price was $8 per person.  It was a great bargain for all of the fun we had watching Emerson enjoying herself.

The pumpkin patch - a few pumpkins were left - but many were already spoiled.  There were still quite a few for sale in various shapes, sizes and colors.

Our last stop before my phone battery died so I didn't get a shot of where Daddy wrote "Emerson & Daddy" on the truck for her.

We stopped at "The Sports Barn" before we left where they had all kinds of games the kids could participate in.  

P&M Pumpkin Ranch was great fun.  We arrived shortly after 10:00 when it opened and it was near 1:30 before we left so we definitely got our money's worth.  They had one concession stand open today where you could purchase a few food items, but on Saturday's they have several others open where you can get more of a meal if you prefer.  

Jarred and Emerson headed home and Dean and I had a sandwich and rested.  We will meet up with them later after Em's had a nap.

Dean napped while I messed around on the computer this afternoon.  As we were leaving to head to Jarred's we saw three powershoots go over - one flew right over us.  

Andrea wasn't feeling good and stayed home, while Jarred, Em, Dean and I drove just a short distance away to Outback Steak House.  We haven't ate here in quite awhile.  I had a salad with grilled chicken, Dean had the Alice Spring Chicken, Jarred had a chicken/shrimp alfredo dinner and Emerson had mac and cheese.  My salad was delicious and I think everyone else enjoyed their meal as well.  We headed back to Jarred's where we visited awhile before heading back to Bentley.
