While we haven't done that much since we've been back in Oswego, we have managed to stay busy while we have been here. I don't know how the time seems to fly by so quickly. I had the chance to visit with my Aunt Lil for almost an hour and a half Thursday morning. It was really good to see her and catch up. She's my mama's baby sister and has always seemed like a second mom to me. Maybe that was because she was only around 14 when I was born and spent a lot of time with my mom. When she married, her husband was in the service and we didn't get to see them but maybe once every year or two. What I remember the most about those years is all of the wonderful letters she wrote me. If I wrote her a letter, she always answered, and would occasionally include a picture. I was always excited when one came in the mail and it made me feel really special. She had the most beautiful handwriting (and still does). She's a very special lady to me and my sisters. She's always been there for us since we lost our mom over twenty-five years ago.
We went to Parsons in the afternoon, with the first stop at Parcom where one of the young ladies that works there was able to remove the constant message that has been coming up on my phone. She did that by going online to change my password rather than how I was doing it - on my phone. After that it worked fine...pretty crazy! That seemed to be way too easy. Afterwards we made a stop at Walmart to pick up a couple of things we couldn't get at the grocery store in Oswego and Dean needed a couple of things for Bentley.
On the way back to Oswego we stopped at our storage unit and picked up my bicycle. I want to take it with us to our casual campout in Oklahoma next week, plus I want to have it to ride while we are in Oswego. If Dean has something to do, I still have a way to get around town, to the store, or just to get some exercise.
For dinner I made a big pot of chili - using a new recipe I found on Pinterest. I added stew meat with a pound of hamburger to make it and then cooked it all in the Instapot. It was delicious!
Friday, I had another list of things to do, but somehow today I just couldn't get into taking care of them; only dealing with the few that really needed attention. I did a few things around Bentley just because they needed to be done. One of those was getting into a storage container under the bed to get some warmer clothes out since the temperatures are changing. After lunch I drove to my mom's oldest sister's to visit with my Aunt Betty and her daughter/my cousin Barbara. We had a really nice visit and I enjoyed the time spent with them. Back home, I was still in a bit of a funk - I think it was all of the cool, rainy weather we've had since we returned to Oswego. I called my sister Cindy to see if she and her husband Elmer wanted to go eat dinner, but they were eating early and were just getting ready to set down. I wasn't in the mood to cook, so Dean and I drove to Parsons to have dinner at Chinese Chef. It was really good. Going back to familiar places we like to eat - yum!
We also drove to the park to check out the river:

Zoomed in - you can see the river is way out of its banks by the trees out in the water. |

Here the water had not yet spread to the adjoining field, but later it did. |
The drive to Wichita was interesting - here are a few pictures as we passed through the Flint Hills on Highway 400. I love this drive and never get tired of the beauty here.
We ran into some fog
and then it cleared up.

Two of Dean's boys (Heath & Jarred) live in Wichita. Heath's oldest and youngest sons are playing football this year. Abram is 11 and Roman is 7 (soon to turn 8).. Roman's game was at 11:30.
As we were walking towards the field, Dean's youngest son Jarred & daughter Emerson were coming in and we walked right by them before realizing who it was. Emerson and I had a good time playing around during parts of the game.
We made it just as it was starting. Here are a few pictures I took during the game.

As soon as Roman's game was over we headed to another field where Abram was already playing - his game started at 12:00. Heath and Casey had to divide up in order to have the boys in the right place for their games. We made it for the last two quarters. Those two quarters went really fast since they were only 3 minutes long; and since their team had not scored with a 32-0 score, they let the clock run, so those six minutes flew by.

Both boys did a good job and we were really glad we got to make it to their games today. We will be back here in two weeks (we'll bring Bentley out and stay a few days then) to watch Abram play a full game, and get to spend more time with both boys and their families.
Brett, another of Dean's boys, was on his way to Wichita for his weekend of Air Force Guard training. After the games we met him for lunch at "When Pigs Fly". It's a great BBQ place that Jarred took us to one other time we were here. We had a nice visit with him and then all of us drove the short distance to Jarred's house to spend an hour or so before we head back to Oswego. Emerson, Jarred's daughter, wanted someone to play with so Nana was glad to oblige.
We had a good time reading books, getting in her tent, and playing with her Princess large size lego blocks.
Shortly before we left Andrea came home and we got to see her for a few minutes before we left to head back to Oswego. Dean wanted to get fuel in Augusta since it was a decent price, and we won't have to worry about stopping to get fuel tomorrow before we head to Oklahoma. I told him Augusta would be a good place to use the last of our Dairy Queen gift card Misti and the kids got us for Christmas, so that's what we did. Yumm!
The sun put on a wonderful display on the way home. Despite the fact it was behind us, I still managed to get some nice pictures of it hitting the landscape as we drove by.
Once the sky really lit up, Dean pulled off on a side road, so I could get some pictures of the actual sunset. Beautiful!
It was a good day!
Nice that you got to visit with the grands and watch them play some football.
ReplyDeleteLove the animal hay bales too!
ReplyDeleteDean's children are adorable, 4, right? I was trying to keep track.
Beautiful sunset pictures.
