Saturday, May 30, 2020 - Housekeeping Day or Is It?; Paint Choices; Trip Planning; Family Visit Online
It was much cooler this morning when I came downstairs. 59F outside, 64F inside. I'm not sure if it was ever above 82, but that's what it is now, shortly after 5. I've been on the go doing one thing or another today.
It all started with Dean mentioned his lack of old shirts he wears when working outside. He had so many shirts, that over a year ago I had folded and placed old ones, and others he was not wearing, in the top shelf of the cabinet next to the closet. After he went through them, a few work shirts, and some others will be washed and hung back up and the rest will become rags. From there, I started going through the rest of the bedroom cabinets, my drawers, his drawers and then the closet. I moved all of the winter clothes into a pile. One day soon, I'll pull everything out from under the bed, and decide what needs to stay in the RV and what needs to be stored or if it just needs to be gone? This wasn't part of my plan for today, but it's good to get it done. I needed to wash a couple of loads of clothes, and in between those I was doing other things in the RV. Wiping cabinets & counters down, cleaning the bathroom, etc. etc. etc. I still need to vacuum and mop the lineoleum floors - but it will have to wait until Monday. Sunday is already spoken for.
Dean wanted me to go with him to Labette Hardware to select a color for Dry-Lock to go on the outside concrete blocks. We picked up a brochure with several colors we thought might work, then drove to the garage to choose a color. I took the brochure back to the store and waited while they mixed it, then took it back to the garage. Later in the day he power washed the concrete blocks and I think he plans to paint it Sunday.
A day or so ago I discovered I was almost out of M & M's. You might wonder, I thought you were trying to loose a few pounds. Yes, I am, but a girl needs her chocolate. I'm not a chocoholic, but eating just a few of these with some mixed nuts helps satisfy my sweet craving. I can go days without them, but it's nice to have a little sweet occasionally, without many calories. Besides, a Nana has to have M & M's for her grandkids when they visit. I've always had some on hand since Logan was a toddler. When the little ones would come to the house, even before they could fully talk, they would stand and point at the cabinet where I kept them.
Since I stopped at Dollar General to get some vinegar, I picked up the largest bag of M&M's they had - which was puny at best! Everything keeps getting smaller and the prices keep getting higher. Have you noticed this too? Speaking of that, the last time I bought toothpaste about 1/3 of the tube was air only. There were two tubes in the package, so I hope it was just coincidence and the other one will be full.
I was texting, or talking with our daughter-in-law Megan off and on this afternoon about their upcoming visit to Kansas. They originally had planned to arrive later in June, but now it looks like it may be the first full week of July. It's time like this, holidays, and family events when we wish we still had a home. It means alot of moving around for them between his brothers homes to have a place to stay. In the past they stayed with us and everyone traveled here to see them. I miss the kids coming to stay with us when we are here too. They still enjoy coming for the day, but not always for the night. I miss that.
When Dean came home for lunch I brought him up to date on my conversation and texts with Megan, while we ate the last of the orange chicken leftover from dinner last night. We are looking forward to seeing them all soon.
Later in the afternoon, I took some time to set down and read posts from my blogger friends. I enjoy reading them. The last few days I've been too busy to read them all.
For dinner I made simple chicken and noodles, using store bought egg noodles and the last of one of the rotisserie chickens I froze a few weeks ago.
This evening at 7 we joined Dean's siblings in a Facebook Messenger visit online. They do this every Saturday evening now. We were busy last week, so it was nice to catch up with everyone tonight.
I have been trying to plan our summer/fall travels in between everything else that we've been doing. It seems I get into it and I have to stop to do something else. It's one of those things I need time to dedicate a full day to, with no distractions. We originally planned to start our trip in Kansas. As I thought about that a bit, and visiting with Dean, we decided July and August may not be the best time to travel (mostly western) Kansas, so we will move that part of the travel to late Sept and early Oct. We have decided to start in Missouri, then make a clockwise circle to Arkansas, Oklahoma and then Kansas. Actually this route will also work better for attending our Escapee and Heartland rallies.
After dinner I went upstairs for something. Again, I noticed it was really warm in the bedroom. Remember yesterday I mentioned this and thought it was due to the sun, since the sun it hitting it now rather than our back windows. The large "escape" window was really warm, so I took the towel down and put reflectix in the window with the towel over it. I also added a towel over the window by my bed, and then turned the A/C down. Hopefully it will cool down so we can sleep tonight. By the time we went to bed it felt cooler but still not as cool as usual. We may have to investigate this further. I hope it's not an issue with the A/C itself.
It was another full day, but there were accomplishments - which is always good!

It was 66F inside and 60F outside when I woke this morning at 5:00am. Oh how I love these morning temperatures.
I was working on yesterday's blog when I realized it was 6:30. Yesterday, we decided we need to start walking earlier in the morning since the sun is coming up earlier now. We need to go at 5:30-6:00am to miss the heat, so next week we will make that change. What a gorgeous, sunny morning it was!
We averaged 17.5/mile so we are slowly getting a little faster. I am really trying hard to take off the pounds I gained while we have been quarantined, and the walking daily sure helps reach that goal.
I had three things I wanted to accomplish today. Defrost the freezer. Done! Clean the washing machine. Done! Clean the bathroom - hopefully I don't run out of energy and can still get that done this afternoon. I have been defrosting the freezer every three months. It had to be done after two months almost to the day. The last time was March 27 this year. It was worse than ever before. This time I put the thin plastic cutting boards back in again. I hate the thought of defrosting it every month, but it may come to that. I did rearrange some things so we'll see how it works over the next 30 days. I have a note on my calendar to check it.
Dean has been wanting some new shirts. Since we haven't been in a clothing store for months now, I decided to purchase online. We've been very happy with the T-shirts we've bought from Lands End over the years. Since I needed a few too I ordered 5 for him, and 3 for me at 50% off. He wears shirts until they practically fall apart - as the new ones come in, the old become his work shirts. He works hard and you can tell it by those ragged shirts.
While defrosting the freezer, I found a roll of Jimmy Dean sausage when I was taking things out of the freezer. I bought it earlier this month because I knew I was running out of sausage. However, it got pushed behind something else. I decided I would let it thaw a bit, cook it later and package it in 1/4# freezer bags. My freezer looks almost empty compared to how full it was just after May 1 when I bought groceries.
We are going to Cindy and Elmer's to play cards tonight at 6. I laid out some chicken for supper but I have no idea what I'm going to make yet. I'll think of something! I also had some milk that needed to be used so I made Jello cheesecake pudding. Dean wanted ice cream last night, but I suggested he eat the last custard cup of butterscotch pudding instead. It's so hard to say no to ice cream!
I've been parking on the south side of our site and Dean has been parking on the north. It is quite a bit muddier as you pull in on the north. He asked me if I would park there as my car will not make the ruts the truck does. I went out and moved my car before he came back from the garage. It's funny, because at noon he expected me to have moved it already, so he came in that way, then he had to go clear around this row to park. He didn't expect me to have it moved when he came back this afternoon, but surprise! Another trip only it was a little longer so he could come in the right way. He's such a good sport as he just laughed.
The RV Park where our July casual campout is being held called me back today and now we have that reservation made. It's been awhile since we've been able to go to more than 2 or 3 campouts a year for one reason or another. Of course this year, the one we were supposed to host in April was cancelled due to the virus. While they were able to have a partial one (2 days, instead of 3 due to the virus) in May, we were unable to attend due to doctor appointments. (I've already marked the campouts for 2021 on our calendar since they are always held the same time of the month, so I will be sure not to schedule any doctor appointments during those dates).
I finally decided on orange chicken for dinner - it's easy to make and takes little time. It was 4:30 or so when Dean returned. While he showered, I made dinner. Dinner was done by 5:15. When we started really watching what we ate over a year ago, I didn't really go without eating anything I wanted, I just reduced the portion. If I get hungry between meals I eat nuts, sugar free pudding, fruit (before 3pm) and veggies. That is what I'm doing today, and trying to keep the sugar/carbs at a minimum.
It reached 81F today. I had both air conditioners on. Later in the day I realized the bedroom (now facing the south side) was awful warm. Well, of course. We have a large window in the bedroom facing the east so the sun was making the difference. Before we left for Cindy's I hung a heavy beach towel up at the window. I think it will do the trick. We have a small towel hanging at the window on Dean's side of the bed to block off a street light. I wish we had night/day shades. Of course the year after our RV was made, they were standard in most Big Horns. Oh well. Towels work well and are really cheap! LOL! Saving those dollars for the house is worth it.
After dinner, we left for Cindy and Elmer's. We played two or three games of Wahoo, girls winning; then 3 games of Pitch, guys winning. As usual we had a lot of fun, with a whole bunch of laughing!
It was almost 11:00 when we made it back to Bentley. We set up, watching TV for awhile to wind down, before finally going to bed around 11:30. Another great day!
I am so thankful for family and the fun that we have together!

| This is the first step of a 3 part cleaning process. I put about 1/2 cup of bleach in the first time and run it through a series of steps provided by Splendide to clean the machine. This was taken when it was really agitating good. By the third time there is no suds. |

It was a cool morning when I got up and best of all -- no rain! I think our forecast is still calling for some later today though.
At 6:30 I asked Dean if he wanted to walk, and it wasn't long we were on our way to the park. It was a foggy morning!
We were able to get our normal 2 miles in this morning. And since Dean decided not to play golf this morning, we stopped for breakfast at Circle L's. It was our first time inside since the Governor issued her "stay in place order". It was good to see friends again. Betty, Dennis, Carol and Jerry came in while we were there. It was so good to see them and we visited back and forth.
Our county has lifted restrictions for Covid-19, however certain businesses (cosmetologists for one) may have to meet criteria due to state regulations, in order to remain open. Restaurants are now open in most of our cities.
When we returned home, I asked Dean if he would wait a short time before he leaves for the garage; in order to make a call he needed to be participate in. When we changed our mailing address from Pittsburg, KS to Livingston, TX we had a problem with one of the changes. We talked to the company the first of March about getting it corrected, but when we received our notification this month, the change had not occurred. Fortunately, today, the person we talked to said they could correct it, and she even called me back later in the day to confirm the change had been corrected. I really appreciated her taking the time to do that.
I made a reservation for our Escapee Chapter Fall Rally in Carthage in October. It will be the last one of the year. It's always sad to see them come to an end. We have so much fun with this group. I shouldn't be talking about things ending, when they are barely getting started. Lol!
I spent a good part of the day working on our summer travels in KS, OK, AR and MO. I mapped out an area we want to travel but I still need to do some research on specific things we want to see, so we can make sure we are able to see as much as we can within the areas we stay, as well as checking reviews of each of the campgrounds. I was talking to one of our camping friends today. One of the campgrounds they tried to get reservations in next month was full with crews working at a wind turbine site. They will not have any openings for a few months. That caused me to think about our own travels. When I googled wind turbine farms being built in Kansas, I found that may be an issue in more than one state. I know Todd usually has 5-10 people in and out of his park. Since the first of the year he has had two large "working" groups in the park and they are still here. One happens to be wind turbine workers. This could definitely be an issue if there are other crews working in our state and how much it will impact RVer's. I do not like making reservations too much in advance as our plans can easily change. Will we lose that ability? Typically we only make reservations in high profile/heavy traffic areas, such as last year, when we visited Yellowstone, Tetons and Estes Park, CO. Otherwise I usually call ahead for a stop or two at a time. While this has worked out for us in the past, I pray it will work this year too.
We had another heavy rain this evening but as of now our forecast says "sunny days are ahead". I sure hope so, especially for the farmers who need some dry weather to get in their fields both to plant, and also to harvest around mid-June or so.
I heated some brats in a pan - rain kept us from grilling the again. They would have been so much better had they cooked outside, but they were filling, so it was all good.
It was a quiet evening, watching TV, and listening to the rain.

It was 63F outside and 68F inside when I came downstairs this morning. I love these temperatures. It was cloudy all day, but they weren't calling for rain until later in the day. I left the windows closed and the A/C on but it didn't kick on until afternoon and then only for short periods of time.
We went to the park to walk, but once Dean received a text they were playing golf this morning, we cut it short after we walked a mile, so he could come home and get ready.
Since there were several things I wanted to do this morning, it just means I can get started a little sooner. I made an appointment with the dentist for both of us in November. I was disappointed I could not get in during June since my dental insurance expires the end of June. I was hoping to have some other work done in November on my new annual plan. Instead I'll just wait until next July or so before I have the other work done. Neither are critical.
I noticed the Heartland Oklahoma Chapter Leader set a date in August for a rally. I called and made reservations for it. It will be held in Oklahoma City. We were not able to make it to the last one in Oklahoma, and we missed out on some great things to see and do.
We will be leaving for Wichita next Wednesday morning and reservations were needed for the park we stay at as well. Unfortunately I could not get a reservation for all 4 days we will be there. We have to move to another park about 20-25 minutes away for one night, but we haven't seen our families out there since January, so it's worth the effort. All of the RV parks seem to be busy!
Dean called me from the golf course wanting to know if I wanted to order ribs from Gale, one of the guys he plays golf with. SURE! I'm anxious to get them next week. We'll get them on Tuesday...supper is ready! I can't wait!
After making all of those calls and getting my normal morning chores out of the way, I rushed around to get ready for my afternoon. Dean didn't get home until about 1, so we had a quick lunch with the leftover spaghetti from last night. I cleaned up lunch dishes, then did a few last minute things. Just as I was ready to leave I received a phone call from the surveyor we asked to survey our property. He had been in Oswego a few days ago so he went by to look at the property. He wasn't able to find a pin that day, but he said he'd be back to do look around a little better. Mainly, he wanted to let us know he had not forgotten us.
I was a few minutes late when I pulled into Linda's. Peggy was already there, and they were sitting out on Linda's back porch visiting with Ronnie, Linda's husband. We chit chatted for a bit before he said he was headed to the garage. We visited for a bit before Linda took us inside to see her new to her home. It seemed quite roomy to me, and I know she'll be happy with the additional kitchen counterspace she has. She has done a beautiful wonderful job of decorating it. I loved the large screened in back porch. She and Peggy are wonderful gardeners, and she's already started working on her yard. She poured us some ice tea and brought a plate of cookies for us back to the porch area. Chocolate chip with nice sized pieces of pecan - what cookie can taste better than that? Delicious!
We had such a nice visit. Before we left Peggy said she had some starts of trees if either of us needed some. Linda didn't want any but I told her I was interested. She gave me a redbud, a dogwood and a Japanese Elm. I was elated! I took them to the lot where Dean was mowing. He stopped to help me get them out of the back of the car. He had to dig a hole to set one of them in, since it had a pretty long root. We just set them outside for now, until we can get them planted later this week. Tomorroow the rain is supposed to move away from us, and I think we'll all be thankful to see sunshine for awhile. Since it is supposed to rain, Dean wanted to finish mowing, so I came on home. We'll get the trees planted Friday or Saturday.
Dean made it home before it started to rain. It was getting dark, so we were checking our radars. They were not showing much at all, but the wind came up and then it poured - we looked at our radar again, and sure enough it had changed. I'm not sure if it was an issue with the the radar or it just moved in that fast. The wind really bent the willow trees behind us and the road was full of water in no time. Of course, there isn't anywhere for it to go, everything is so waterlogged.
We had planned to grill some brats but that wasn't an option, so I made breakfast burritoes instead. I used the last package of sausage I cooked and put in the freezer awhile back. While we were at Brett's Sunday I mentioned I was about to run out of the "Blue and Gold" sausage that Dacy and Tucker sell every year for FFA. I wished I could buy some more. Brett said how much do you need? I told him two rolls - woohoo, he had extra, so I bought them from him. One more thing to add to my list, set one roll out to defrost and cook it up, so I can freeze it in small packages of 1/4#. I use the sausage for pizzas and breakfast burritoes mostly, but it's good for other dishes once in awhile too. It's so nice to have it precooked and on hand when I want to make a quick meal.
What a wonderful day, even if we did have more rain!

We will be leaving for Wichita next Wednesday morning and reservations were needed for the park we stay at as well. Unfortunately I could not get a reservation for all 4 days we will be there. We have to move to another park about 20-25 minutes away for one night, but we haven't seen our families out there since January, so it's worth the effort. All of the RV parks seem to be busy!
Dean called me from the golf course wanting to know if I wanted to order ribs from Gale, one of the guys he plays golf with. SURE! I'm anxious to get them next week. We'll get them on Tuesday...supper is ready! I can't wait!
After making all of those calls and getting my normal morning chores out of the way, I rushed around to get ready for my afternoon. Dean didn't get home until about 1, so we had a quick lunch with the leftover spaghetti from last night. I cleaned up lunch dishes, then did a few last minute things. Just as I was ready to leave I received a phone call from the surveyor we asked to survey our property. He had been in Oswego a few days ago so he went by to look at the property. He wasn't able to find a pin that day, but he said he'd be back to do look around a little better. Mainly, he wanted to let us know he had not forgotten us.
I was a few minutes late when I pulled into Linda's. Peggy was already there, and they were sitting out on Linda's back porch visiting with Ronnie, Linda's husband. We chit chatted for a bit before he said he was headed to the garage. We visited for a bit before Linda took us inside to see her new to her home. It seemed quite roomy to me, and I know she'll be happy with the additional kitchen counterspace she has. She has done a beautiful wonderful job of decorating it. I loved the large screened in back porch. She and Peggy are wonderful gardeners, and she's already started working on her yard. She poured us some ice tea and brought a plate of cookies for us back to the porch area. Chocolate chip with nice sized pieces of pecan - what cookie can taste better than that? Delicious!
We had such a nice visit. Before we left Peggy said she had some starts of trees if either of us needed some. Linda didn't want any but I told her I was interested. She gave me a redbud, a dogwood and a Japanese Elm. I was elated! I took them to the lot where Dean was mowing. He stopped to help me get them out of the back of the car. He had to dig a hole to set one of them in, since it had a pretty long root. We just set them outside for now, until we can get them planted later this week. Tomorroow the rain is supposed to move away from us, and I think we'll all be thankful to see sunshine for awhile. Since it is supposed to rain, Dean wanted to finish mowing, so I came on home. We'll get the trees planted Friday or Saturday.
Dean made it home before it started to rain. It was getting dark, so we were checking our radars. They were not showing much at all, but the wind came up and then it poured - we looked at our radar again, and sure enough it had changed. I'm not sure if it was an issue with the the radar or it just moved in that fast. The wind really bent the willow trees behind us and the road was full of water in no time. Of course, there isn't anywhere for it to go, everything is so waterlogged.

We had planned to grill some brats but that wasn't an option, so I made breakfast burritoes instead. I used the last package of sausage I cooked and put in the freezer awhile back. While we were at Brett's Sunday I mentioned I was about to run out of the "Blue and Gold" sausage that Dacy and Tucker sell every year for FFA. I wished I could buy some more. Brett said how much do you need? I told him two rolls - woohoo, he had extra, so I bought them from him. One more thing to add to my list, set one roll out to defrost and cook it up, so I can freeze it in small packages of 1/4#. I use the sausage for pizzas and breakfast burritoes mostly, but it's good for other dishes once in awhile too. It's so nice to have it precooked and on hand when I want to make a quick meal.
What a wonderful day, even if we did have more rain!

Tuesday, May 26, 2020 - I Had A Plan; I Threw It Away....Maybe Tomorrow?
I was wide awake at 4:15 this morning. It was 70F inside and 65F outside. It was also raining. I've been wearing my ear plugs every night. It's nice. The rain doesn't really bother me, but when it is heavy it is pretty loud in the RV. I didn't notice it at all, until I took the ear plugs out. It rained until 7:30 or so. We talked about walking but the forecast didn't look too good so we passed.
Since I had several things I wanted to get done this morning I was okay with that. After reading my devotionals (I missed yesterday), I did my morning chores before taking a shower. I was getting dressed when my phone rang. It was my hairdresser, Marla! Yea!!!! She had been trying to get in touch with me but didn't have my phone number. She called my sisters to get it. (I learned later that she might have had to call more than one - since Cindy had a missed call from her - but she didn't see it until after work). Marla wanted to know if I would be free to come to the shop now. I said sure. I hurried a little faster to finish getting ready and went with a wet head. I did take time to run a comb through it!
I rushed out so fast I forgot my mask - you need to wear one at the hairdressers, but she was prepared and fixed me up with one. It was good to see her and Cindy, the other hairdresser in her shop. It's rare to go to her shop without seeing someone you know. Today was no different, the Brown's (Chris and Dee) were there. I was anxious to catch up with Marla. The last time I was in her shop was January just before we left Oswego for the winter.
I've mentioned this before, Marla and her husband own property across the street from our lot. They are already living there in what will eventually be her new salon. They plan to build their home in the near future. We visited about that a bit. They will be good neighbors. Their son Broc who did the work to our garage lives across the street from us on the south, and Marla is to the north, with a road between their properties. The road T's and does not go through our lot.
Speaking of Broc, Dean saw him at the hardware store Saturday morning. Broc told when he stepped out early the day before he noticed several deer on our property. There are quite a bit of deer around the boundaries of Oswego. We would occasionally see them at our last house, and my sisters in the north part of town see them often. All of these have wooded areas nearby.
After Marla finished with me, I left and headed to the garage. While I was getting my hair cut my phone rang, so when I reached the garage I checked to see who called. It was my friend Linda. Linda, our mutual friend Peggy, and I have been friends for many years. Before we left for our camp outing last week we tried to find a date we could all get together, but last minute planning doesn't work too well. Monday evening I sent Linda a text that we had decided to stay in Oswego through June 2. Since I had nothing scheduled during that time I was hoping it might work out for them as well. Her call was to let me know we would meet Wednesday afternoon at her house, out in her screened in patio - to do our social distancing. Linda and her husband moved to a new to them home the end of December. They were in the middle of remodeling, painting, etc. when we left. This will be the first time we've been together in at least 6 months. We'll have a lot to catch up on.
We visited a bit then I headed back to Bentley around 11:30. I had changed the sheets so I put those in the dryer and set down to look at my list of things I hoped to do today. About 15 minutes later I heard a knock on the door. It was my dear friend Betsy. She was in the hardware store when Dean stopped to get something. She asked about me and he told her she should stop to see me before she heads home (Chetopa). We visited for 40-45 minutes, maybe longer. It was so good to see her. We had a great visit catching up with each other. I'm so glad she and Dean happened to be in the same place at the same time!
For lunch, Dean ate the remaining chicken thigh that our neighbor brought over last night, along with a few veggies and I ate the last hot dog. We visited for awhile before he left to go back to the garage around 2-2:30.
After Dean left I went to Misti's to visit with her for awhile. She has been working at the golf course while waiting to start her physical therapy assistant job. She was originally set to start her new career just prior to the pandemic and everything was put on hold. Now that things are opening up, she is scheduled to do her orientation next week. Since it was so wet today I thought it might be a good time to catch her for a visit. She reminded me of ordering Haleigh's senior pictures and I'm glad she did. She is going to include mine with hers, since there was a minimum purchase well beyond what I needed. I asked, but they still have not rescheduled Haleigh's graduation yet. (Update: she sent me a text later that it will be Saturday, June 20 at noon.) Yea!
When I returned to Bentley I made a couple of calls. I visit with one of our former Mayor's occasionally and I gave him a call. No answer, so next I tried to call my cousin Patty who lives in Oklahoma. Again, no answer. I called my sister Cindy and we visited for awhile, before Philip returned my call. We visited for a few minutes and by then it was about time for Dean to return from the garage.
I sent Todd a text to be sure it was not a problem to stay another week, before walking to the office to drop a check off. We plan to leave for Wichita the morning of June 3. Our newest granddaughter Hayden Grace will have arrived Monday, June 1. Dad, Jarred will be staying at the hospital with Mom, Andrea. We will not be able to see them until they are home. Unless they say differently, we will wait until the 4th so they have a chance to settle in and Emerson has time with her new sister, before we take a peek at Hayden. We hope to spend some time with Heath/Casey and our grandsons while we are there as well. We will leave Wichita on Sunday, June 7, and return to Oswego for a week, since I need to have have lab work then a follow up appointment at Vinita's Cherokee Health Clinic.
I fixed spaghetti for dinner, then did the dishes. Since I didn't accomplish much of anything today (althought it was great catching up with friends and family) I did take time to pull out the specific things I plan to do tomorrow, and made a list. I probably won't get them all done, but at least I won't forget anything.....well, unless it didn't make the list. 😊
While everything that occurred today was not in my plan, it was a great day and nothing I had on my list was so critical it could not wait until tomorrow. Family and friends are important!

Monday, May 25, 2020 - Memorial Day; Rainy Morning; Lamar Visit; Barely Beat the Rain Home
It was 68F outside this morning and 70F inside after a great sleep. I haven't turned the A/C off. I try to just keep it comfortable inside using fans to keep the air moving and it seems to work pretty good. With all of the rain we can't open the windows, so it can get pretty muggy inside.
We celebrate Memorial Day today. We are so thankful for all of our military, but we especially remember those who fought the battles and did not return to their families, in order to keep our nation free! Thank you to each and every soldier who has or are serving our great nation!
Yesterday Dean called Brett to see if they would be up for a visit from us today So that is what we are doing this afternoon. I did a load of laundry this morning, fixed our shakes, washed the dishes, then set down to work on the blog. That was at the top of my to-do list for today. Shortly before noon, I went upstairs to get ready and Dean got the lunch items laid out. We had a quick lunch, then we headed towards Lamar, MO. It's about an hour and fifteen minute drive. We enjoy drives through the countryside, so we don't mind. We can take different routes, so there is always something new to see on our drive. Today we took the shorter route to get there.
The last time or two we drove on State Hwy 43, we noticed a couple of cranes to the west of 43. Today we realized what the crane was doing. A wind farm is going up here. There were two complete turbines, and several poles already in place. As we drove by a nearby farm, we noticed they must be permitting the company who is building them to store their poles. That was one tall crane.
When we arrived at Brett's look who came out to greet us:
And inside, who went to Papa right away?
It was such a beautiful day. We moved outside to sit on the full length back porch. Brett has the perfect location for a view. The breeze/wind keeps things cool. There are several large shade trees that shade the porch in the morning and the porch keeps it cool in the afternoons/evenings this time of year.
Jameson loves being outside. He was so content. In the three hours we were there he only fussed one time - because he was hungry.
Brett has been working on a small building they brought in that can be used by his daughter Dacy when she stays with them, or when family visits. We went out to tour it - did I take a picture? NO. It has a small bedroom, a bathroom and a small living space, with a little front porch on it. He has all of the flooring down now, the walls are done and painted. He still needs to build a small closet in the bedroom and install the bathroom fixtures.
And then there was this special guy and his dog, Winston, with Emilee's little Salvie beneath his chair:
Logen was having a great time playing in a water puddle chasing a frog. She caught it a couple of times.
The guys could not resist a little game of Horse. I'm not sure who the winner was.
The wind picked up during the basketball game, then the rain came, so we moved back up to the porch. Since the rain came from the west it was great sitting out on the backporch that faces east.
We saw a deer run across the field to the south of us - or at least Tucker and I did. I wish I'd had my phone a little closer at the time.
We left around 3:30, watching these clouds to the south.
We drove through some light rain, however none of it lasted long. When we reached Pittsburg, KS we stopped at Sonic for a quick dinner. We were both hungry and we still had another 45 minutes to go before we were home. It was after 6 before we returned to Bentley. Our neighbor was cooking chicken thighs this evening and brought two over for us. I was full from our Sonic meal, but Dean ate one. He said it was very good. I'll try mine tomorrow. Dean told me we might need to fix a dessert or something we can take over. I can do that!
Fortunately, it didn't rain too much on the way home. It was a little later in the evening before the heavy rain started. It is supposed to go on through the night. There are no severe warnings and we are thankful for that.
It was a great day. We enjoyed spending time with Brett, Emilee, Tucker, Logen and Jameson. We missed Dacy but I'm sure we will see her several times before we head out on our summer RV adventures. Haleigh's graduation date has not been determined yet. Dacy's graduation has been moved to July 18 now, so we will stay in our 4 state area until graduations are over with.

Saturday, May 23, 2020 - Happy birthday Amy!; Downtime Day; Extra Warm Weather Has Arrived
Shortly after I was up this morning, I sent a Happy Birthday note to my niece Amy. I hope you had a great day Amy. I love you!
Today I didn't do much of anything, other than finishing up our laundry, caught up reading the blogs I follow, working on mine and just enjoying a day of leisure. I intended to do some cleaning - but it can wait. Sometimes you just need to rest!
Dean went by the post office about 9:30 to pick up our mail. I finally recevied my medication so I'm good for another 90 days.
Dean left a short time later for the lot to start burning the pile of limbs and tree trunk he took out of the pine tree a week or so ago. There is a nearby tree stump, where he piled everything on it. He hopes to burn the stump as well. It didn't burn as much as he hoped but if he keeps adding things to it, in time hopefully, it will be eliminated. He also mowed, since we have rain in the forecast. It looks like the rain might be around for awhile, so even though it's just been a few days since the last mowing, it might keep it from being too tall the next time he has a chance to mow. It was very warm with quite a bit of humidity today.
I stopped at the lot to visit with Dean for a few minutes. He had already mowed the main part of the lot, but still had some on the northeast side to finish up. From there I stopped by Cindy's and visited for an hour or so before heading home.
It was hot and humid today. I had both air conditioners running during the heat of the day to keep us cool. I finally added the reflective material in our big window. While it doesn't get the direct sun like it did in our last spot, we still get some. It made a big difference.
Dean grilled some chicken breasts wrapped in bacon I bought at our local grocery store a couple of days ago. To go with it, we added sweet potatoes on the grill. A great meal. We need to start eating like this more often to get rid of the few pounds we have gained over the last couple of months.
We watched TV the rest of the evening. It was a nice, slow paced, enjoyable day!
May 24, 2020 - Happy 21st Birthday Logan! Digging up Rhizomes; Making A Delivery; Dinner Guest
Happy 21st Birthday to our Grandson Logan, our first grandchild. While each and every grandchild is special to us, getting to meet the very first one is a special moment for sure. We immediately became Nana and Papa for the very first time. What a blessing it was! Logan I hope your day was every bit as special as you are!
It was a beatuiful morning, so we headed to the park to walk. One of the ladies that we typically see most mornings on our walks was there with her sister Tracy. I first met these girls when our mothers spent time with each other back in the early 70's. It was good to see her again.
We returned to Bentley for our breakfast shakes. Dean headed to the garage a short time afterwards. I straightened things up before I left around 10:30, making a quick stop (I thought) at Dollar General before heading to the lot. I wanted to get a new pair of gardening gloves and Dean wanted me to look for a squeeze bottle (like you would put mustard or ketchup in). I found them both right away and headed to the checkout, waiting patiently for my turn. When it was mine, the gloves did not have a tag on them. With at least 4 people in line behind me, I had to run to the back of the store and get another pair, so she could ring them up.
From there I drove to the lot to dig up some rhiazomes (iris bulbs) for my friend Betty. It was a perfect day to take care of it.
Dean told me he put jelly in the oriole feeder yesterday, but today it was full of ants. My cousin passed a tip on to me from my Aunt, put vaseline on the pole to keep the ants from getting to the bird feeder, so I also brought vaseline along. Dean put it on in a couple of places, hoping they will be unable to get past it. We then refilled the dish that goes in the hangar.
I left soon after this so I could stop at the grocery store for a few things, however my cart ended up with more than a few items. Those few things added up to slightly over $50. They had some nice pork chops so that's what is for dinner tonight with some fresh roasted vegetables - sweet potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower.
Later in the day I took the iris bulbs to Betty, then returned home to start our dinner. Pork chops are so often dry when you grill them, so I did some research earlier, on how to keep that from happening. I found info on Pinterest that said to soak them in water with 3 T kosher salt to 4 cups water, and an equal amount of brown sugar. Cover them for up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
Three of the five were very tender. The two might have been on top in the bowl I put them in. If I try this again, I will put them in a sealed plastic bag, and move the brine around a few times to see if that makes a difference. Even though the two weren't as tender they were still quite good.
We enjoyed visiting with our neighbor while we set outside to cook our meal. He is part of the wind turbine crew staying in the park. It was interesting hearing details about the wind turbines and meeting his "ugly cat" as he referred to it. He told us it was a Donskoy - it has hardly any hair and their skin feels like suede. I'd never seen anything like it before.
I invited my cousin Todd, who is also owner of the park we are staying in,to join us for dinner. The park is full and a good number of the mobile homes he owns and rents are also full or will be soon. He's a busy one man show. I thought it might be nice if he could relax a bit. We had a great visit after dinner and we enjoyed his company.
We watched a little TV aftewards. At 9:30 I kept dropping off, so I was glad when Dean said he was ready to go to bed. I was too.
Another great day. While it was cloudy this morning the clouds burned off and it was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon/evening.
Shortly after I was up this morning, I sent a Happy Birthday note to my niece Amy. I hope you had a great day Amy. I love you!
Today I didn't do much of anything, other than finishing up our laundry, caught up reading the blogs I follow, working on mine and just enjoying a day of leisure. I intended to do some cleaning - but it can wait. Sometimes you just need to rest!
Dean went by the post office about 9:30 to pick up our mail. I finally recevied my medication so I'm good for another 90 days.
I stopped at the lot to visit with Dean for a few minutes. He had already mowed the main part of the lot, but still had some on the northeast side to finish up. From there I stopped by Cindy's and visited for an hour or so before heading home.
It was hot and humid today. I had both air conditioners running during the heat of the day to keep us cool. I finally added the reflective material in our big window. While it doesn't get the direct sun like it did in our last spot, we still get some. It made a big difference.
Dean grilled some chicken breasts wrapped in bacon I bought at our local grocery store a couple of days ago. To go with it, we added sweet potatoes on the grill. A great meal. We need to start eating like this more often to get rid of the few pounds we have gained over the last couple of months.
We watched TV the rest of the evening. It was a nice, slow paced, enjoyable day!
May 24, 2020 - Happy 21st Birthday Logan! Digging up Rhizomes; Making A Delivery; Dinner Guest
Happy 21st Birthday to our Grandson Logan, our first grandchild. While each and every grandchild is special to us, getting to meet the very first one is a special moment for sure. We immediately became Nana and Papa for the very first time. What a blessing it was! Logan I hope your day was every bit as special as you are!
It was a beatuiful morning, so we headed to the park to walk. One of the ladies that we typically see most mornings on our walks was there with her sister Tracy. I first met these girls when our mothers spent time with each other back in the early 70's. It was good to see her again.

| This tree is so pretty. From the first picture I took of it a week or two ago, the flowers were only at the top. Today I took this one, plus a few close up of the flowers since they were low enough on the tree I could get better pictures. My friends thought it might be honeysuckle growing up the tree - but after checking it out today - it is definitely not honeysuckle. |

| Two tree names came up when I checked Google Lens - Golden Rain Tree or Bejing Gold Tree Lilac. I'm not sure which it is but it's a very interesting and different tree. I've never noticed the flowers on it before. |

| We noticed this tree the other day and thought it might be a mimosa tree. My grandparents had one in their yard when we were young and I loved it. I took a picture of it, then checked Google Lens and it says it is a mimosa. The flowers typically come on between May and July. There's nothing on it yet so we'll see what happens. |
