May 2, 2020 - Spending Time at our Property; Visit with Marc; Peine Family Online Meetup

I was awake around 5:10 but I laid in bed until 5:30.  I had not made the coffee before I went to bed last night, so that was first on the agenda.  I straightened things up downstairs while I was waiting for the coffee to finish.  As soon as my first cup was poured I set down to read my devotional and Bible reading for the day.

A short time later I started work on yesterday's blog.  I worked on it some last night but I could not concentrate so I finally gave up.  It was a great day but I was worn out by the time we returned home.  I wanted to get it posted this morning before I got busy with other things.

Cindy and I are going to Joplin on Monday.  I am making an order for Walmart for a few things I like that I cannot get here, and a couple of things for her too.   We also plan to stop at Sam's while we are there.  I need some non-salted cashews.  I have a new recipe for cashew chicken and I really want to try it out.

I told Dean I'd like to take get our bird feeders out and put them out at the property we own today.  I would go down there more often if I could do a little bird-watching.  There is quite a bit of shade on the north side.  He left around 9 and I followed him.  We found the bird feeders and I washed them up.  We don't have water turned on yet, so we used the 2-3 gallons we brought in a bucket from the RV.   I set them set outside to dry.  In the meantime I went to Labette Hardware to purchase bird feed and a goldfinch feeder.

We've been talking about getting a new set of pots and pans.  The ones I have we bought a short time after we got married....probably 24-25 years ago.  They are non-stick but they don't work like they used to.  I would like to have a set of the copper pans.  While I was at the hardware store I noticed they have a full set.  When I returned to the lot later I told Dean about them.  Gail at the store said he and his wife have the same set and they love it...nothing sticks.  That's what I am looking for.  We may see that as a purchase in our immediate future.  Lol!

It was good to see David, a former city employee while I was there.  I sure do like that guy and was sorry to see him leave his position with the city.  Later he moved outside of Oswego.  I had not seen him in several years, so it was a really bright spot for my day.

We came home for lunch.  I made us each a sandwich, along with carrots and an apple with peanut butter for lunch.  We headed back to the lot a little after 1.

After I filled the feeders, Dean put the bird feed hangars up in the yard, and we hung all of the feeders.  We have thistle for goldfinch and jelly for the orioles on one hangar, the hummingbird feeder on one, and a bird feeder that will attract several other birds with a mixture of bird feed.

Our goldfinch and oriole feeders.  We had a oriole fly over so hopefully it will return to feed.

This little house is for songbirds.  We especially love seeing the cardinals.
My cousin Barbara told me that our Aunt Lil recommended putting a little vaseline at the top of hummingbird feeder so ants cannot get to the feeder.  I forgot to bring it with me, but will get that added tomorrow.

I carried two chairs out of the garage and set them under a nice shade tree where we could watch the birds.  Not even 10 minutes passed when we had our first hummer show up.  She was back and forth numerous times throughout the few hours I spent there.

Dean told me when he's had the garage door open, a hummer has come inside several times.  He has an old Chiefs popcorn can sitting on a shelf.  It is bright red, and that is where it goes every time, so they are looking for a feeder.  He was sure we would have one soon if we put it out and he was right!

The hummer is on the left side of the feeder.

Dean was burning some of the brush in the two pits.

Stirring the coals to burn a few more limbs.

He cut brush under another tree, and started working on the biggest area out by the road.  I really enjoyed being there and he liked me being there as well.  I may start spending an hour or two down there with him a few days a week.  It reached the mid-80's this afternoon, but we were in a very shaded spot, with a nice breeze that kept us very comfortable.

The green leaves at the top right is the tree I was sitting under.  If you look just below the farthest to the left and the top green leaf, the hummer is sitting in the tree right just a short distance above me.  It was fun to watch her come and go.

I left at 3:30 as we have no restroom facilities there.  I wanted to look at the maps of our property again to get an idea what areas we could clear to the northwest side of the property, and it looks like we own the areas we want to clear.  However, we will wait to get the official word from the surveyor on any property that we are not sure of, and I doubt we get that far before we hear from him.

I started work on today's blog as I want to post it this evening (as you can tell I didn't make it).  Marc called to tell me he was on his way to Oswego to return Uncle Richard's trailer, so I walked down to the office area to meet him.  He backed it in, and unhooked it.  We were visiting about their move and all they've done today.  I asked him if he had ever been to our lot.  He said no, but he had enough time to drive down there, so I rode along with him.  I hope I took good pictures when we bought it because it is so much improved now, even though we have lots of work to do yet.  It was great to visit with him.

I warmed up the leftover taco soup for Dean and made a grilled cheese sandwich for myself.  Shortly after we finished eating, Dean reminded me we are supposed to use Facebook Messenger to visit with his brother and sisters and their spouses at 7pm.  Two of the sisters were not able to participate this evening, so it was us, Dean's brother Larry and his wife Sandi, and his sister Joyce.  We visited for about an hour and it was a good way for them all to keep in touch.

We had one dish of vanilla pudding with coconut left so we enjoyed it with a little cool whip and a drizzle of chocolate syrup on top.  Dean watched TV but I was having a hard time staying awake.  At 9:30 I told him I was going to bed.

It was a great day.  I'm so thankful Marc and Jen have made the move to their new home.  It's been a long month for them preparing for it and now they can enjoy it.
