Sunday, May 3, 2020 - Haircut & Rainstorm; 1st Sisterfest Since January; Steak Dinner & Cool Weather

I heard the air conditioner shut off (yes, we left it on all night).  It was a little after 4 and I drifted in and out of sleep for about 30 minutes before I finally got up.  I turned the AC off.  It wasn't too cold but the temperatures inside was 68, so it wasn't really needed.  It was 61 outside.  I wrote yesterday's blog while I enjoyed my morning coffee.

I realized I should probably text Crystal and Jody and remind them we would meet at Cindy's today at 1.  It was 5:34am when I sent the text.  I was surprised when Crystal responded, "What are you doing texting at this time of the morning?"  She actually was awake before me.  All four of us are early risers - we take after our mom!

After Dean got up, and while drinking his first cup of coffee, he reminded me that we forgot to cut his hair yesterday.  So after we had our morning shakes, we headed to the garage a little after 8.  It's supposed to rain so we didn't want to be outside in the middle of cutting it when the rain came.  We tried cutting it inside once when we were in Texas, and it was also the last time.  What a mess!

As Dean was cleaning up afterwards, the wind started to come up and the skies darkened.  Here are a couple of pictures I took from the door of the garage as the storm rolled in.

While I was looking out, I noticed an oriole on the feeder, and the hummer was busy feeding too.

Dean finished putting everything away, as the raindrops began to fall.  We quickly ran to the truck, and just in time.  As we backed out of the driveway it began to hail.

The skies opened and it poured.

See the hail on the window (white spots right of the antenna).

I didn't want to go to the RV Park since we'd just have to sit until it quit raining so we drove up Main Street, then headed toward the park.  Dean remembered the Community Center awning, so we pulled under it until the hail quit.

Hail that bounced in under the awning.  It wasn't big enough to cause damage, thank goodness.
As we drove back through town toward the RV park, the roads were overflowing with water.  The storm didn't last too long, but it sure dropped a lot of rain in such a short time.

We returned to Bentley.  I waited until all of the lightning had passed before I showered.  My sisters and I are getting together today for the first time since January.  We will meet at Cindy's (even though it's my Sunday, but we can't social distance in Bentley very well).  I should have taken a picture of us but I didn't think about it at the time.  We had a lot to talk about!

Cindy has been wanting to try a new cake.  She decided to try it out on us.  I'm sure someone has probably thought of this and made it before, but she just thought it sounded good and gave it a try on her own.  She made a lemon poke cake, with raspberry jello poured over the top.  To finish it off she spread a container of cool whip over the top.  It was really good, but we both agreed, a little more lemon and raspberry flavor would have really put it over the top.

It was great to finally get all of us together again.  It seemed as if our two hours together flew by.

When I returned home Dean was in the process of moving the hummingbird feeder to the east side of the RV.  As the temperatures have increased, the sun on the south window makes it unbearable inside.  Once I pull the shades on the south we can no longer see the feeder, so we moved it to the small window on the east, next to the couch.  We both can see it from our chairs in this location and we won't have to worry about the sun hitting it like it does on the back window.

He also changed the anode rod in our hot water heater, and added salt to our water softener to keep it free from hardness during the time I was at Cindy's.

I placed my order with Walmart for curbside pick up tomorrow, however, I could not get the time frame I wanted, so that required a call to Cindy to change the time we leave.  I invited Misti and Haleigh over last week for dinner but Haleigh had to work, so I rescheduled with them for tomorrow night.  I played a game on my phone for 15-20 minutes to relax a bit before we started dinner.  I bought some steaks at G&W the other day.  I thawed them earlier and put them in the refrigerator before I went to Cindy's.  To go with it I microwaved a "baked" potato, with a vegetable mix of broccoli, cauliflower & carrots.  It was delicious!  Grilling is the best - not many dishes to do, and a baked potato in the microwave is pretty easy too!

I've got 3 chocolate chip cookies baking in the convection oven for our dessert.  I love the Nestle's break apart cookies that you can buy at the store.  I could easily make my own batter, but we'd eat way more than we need.  With these I can bake 2 or 3 each (depending on the size) every few weeks.  It's nice to have a snack of some kind.  The chocolate chip squares are fairly good size so we'll split one of them.  It is the last of the cookie dough.  I'll be getting some more tomorrow!

We are watching American Idol.  As soon as I heard Arthur Gunn on the first show this season, I knew that was who I would be voting for.  I just loved his voice.  I'm happy he was picked - and that was before I realized he lives in Wichita, Kansas, although originally he is from Nepal.   There is some really tough competition, so it's an honor that he made it to the Top 10.

At 8:04 it is 67 outside, and 76 inside, with a cool breeze coming through the open windows.  Perfect weather.  Our forecast says scattered thunderstorms after midnight and through most of tomorrow.  It is May in Kansas after all - the rainy season!
