Wednesday, May 6 & Thursday, May 7, 2020 - Catching Up

Wednesday, May 6 & Thursday, May 7, 2020 - Catching Up

It's been cooler this week, and both Wednesday and Thursday temperatures dropped into the 50's overnight, only reaching mid-60's during the day.

Wednesday, May 6
We walked this morning.  What a beautiful sky we enjoyed as we drove into the park this morning.  This is the one and only picture I took today.

Sunrise on a cloudy day!
It was another cold morning as we walked our 2 miles.  I had to pull out my lined leggings today and added a flannel shirt over a t-shirt, along with a jacket to keep me warm in the wind.  After returning home, we had our protein shakes.  I like to play the daily challenge on the free cell app on my phone while I drink my shake.

Dean headed to the lot to install a water hydrant.  We filled out a request to the City to have our water turned on and to get a trash can at our property.  Dean spent the best part of the morning at the lot digging a hole so he could hook the hydrant to the city water line.  One of the city crew came by while he was there to check it.  He wants to power wash the concrete around the garage so he can paint it to match the siding on the garage - a dark gray.  In addition we can wash the truck or car there when it is needed.  Dean sometimes needs water to use in the garage so it will be a plus for us to have it, although I doubt we will use very much water.

While he was gone, I did more laundry - is there ever any end to it?  Lol!  I also took the time to cut up romaine lettuce that we will use for our taco salads for tonight and tomorrow.  I cleaned and cut up radishes, celery and picked red grapes to put in separate containers in the refrigerator.  We try to eat a lot of vegetables and fruit, especially with our lunch.

Dean returned at noon and we had a light lunch of meat/cheese and veggies, followed by our apple and peanut butter.  I ordered a prescription for me at the Cherokee Health Center.  I asked them to hold it and I would pick it up tomorrow (Thursday).  If they send it to our mailing address it can take between 5-7 days to get to me depending on when it arrives.  If we are in Oswego, I prefer to go pick it up myself.  They will only mail it to the address on file, which means it must go to the Texas address first; when I receive notice it is there, I must send it to the location we are at the time, or one we will be moving to.  They used to send it directly to me wherever we were located but last year that changed.  Just something we have to keep in mind when re-ordering medication now.

Dean left for the garage.  I washed the second load of clothes and worked on some things at the desk, filing some papers, moving things around, etc.  The last load of clothes finished and they were hung in the shower to finish drying overnight.

My sister Cindy did some cleaning a few weeks ago.  She had several things she wanted to take to the church in Chetopa.  Today she was gathering everything up to take to the car when she realized she had some other clothes she had planned to take.  When we were together last Sunday my sisters and I went through some of the clothes.  I took a couple of tops.  She wanted to know if I wanted to go through those she found today before taking them to Chetopa.  Sure, I said.  I ended up taking a pair of pants and several tops - they are all summer clothes, so that works great.

After trying them on, I rode to Chetopa with her to.  Our cousin's wife Sherry was there and we visited with her for 5-10 minutes before heading back to Oswego.  Dean returned a short time later.

For dinner I made individual taco salads - romaine lettuce, shredded cheese, chopped tomato, kidney beans, black olives (for me), nacho cheese tortilla chips crushed, and hamburger cooked with dry taco seasoning.  Usually I would also add half an avocado to each of our salad's but the ones I have were too green to use.  We love Dorothy Lynch Home Style Dressing on our taco salad.  We have enough leftover for tomorrow night too!

After doing the dishes we settled in for the evening.  Or at least I did.  Later, Dean said we still have a container of ice cream in the freezer at the garage.  Doesn't a shake sound good?  He left to get the ice cream.  I added about 3/4 c milk, with 1 cup of frozen strawberries, 1/2 T of stevia, and two scoops of ice cream in our protein shake cups and mixed them up with the Nutribullet.  Not too bad for our first time.  I've got to quit buying ice cream though!

It was another good day!

Thursday, May 7, 2020 - Bunnies; Morning Walk; Dean Golfs; Drive to Vinita; Video Chat for Grandson Sam's 2nd Birthday; More Ice Cream!

It was only 50 this morning when I got up.  This is the coldest morning we've had in a couple of weeks.  I hope those temperatures do not keep going down.

As we were leaving to go to the park and walk, Dean noticed these two bunnies in the yard behind us as we backed out of our site.  Maybe we'll see some baby bunnies soon!

It was a mild day.  Starting out I was glad I grabbed a flannel shirt and a jacket, but after the first mile I didn't need either the shirt or the jacket.  It warmed up quick.

No wind today but the air was cool the first mile, until the sun popped out.
After our walk, we had our breakfast, then Dean left for the golf course.  His knee has been bothering him.  He said he may only play 9 holes today, instead of 18.  He golfs with a group of guys from here in Oswego and the surrounding area.  He really enjoys playing.

A week or two ago I had asked a friend and former co-worker if she would mind me bringing my sister Cindy out to see her gardens.  Renee and her husband have an amazing yard full of trees, bushes, yard ornaments and flowers.  I haven't been there for several years now.  She recently retired.  I've seen her posts on Facebook of the work they've been doing.  While I've been out there before, I knew Cindy would enjoy it as much as I had.  I called her to see if today might work and she said yes.  Unfortunately, it started raining shortly before 1pm, so we will need to reschedule.

I planned to go to Vinita after visiting Renee, so I changed my plans to head south.  Dean said he would ride with me - instead he drove, and I rode with him!  Lol!  I can't take pictures if I am driving, or at least I shouldn't!

Leaving the RV Park and headed south.
I didn't take any other pictures until we headed back to Oswego, as we were talking too much!  Lol!

When we arrived at the Health Center in Vinita, things had changed since I last visited due to Covid19.  We were talking and drove right by a sign saying "TURN HERE".  Of course, we had no idea anything had changed, so we were not really paying attention to any signs.  As we drew closer to the entrance to the pharmacy drive through pickup lane, we noticed this was now only an EXIT.  There was a makeshift tent/building set up.  A lady came out to explain we needed to go clear back to the road before the Health Center that leads to the airport and take it around the building to the pharmacy drive through.  As we approached the entrance drive at the back of the property from the airport road, we had to stop at another makeshift "building" to let them know what we were there for.  They directed us on around the building to the drive through pharmacy pickup.  When we arrived, Dean pushed the button at the drive through to let them know we were there.  When the pharmacy tech came to the window I told her who I was and I needed to pick up a prescription.  She left to get it.  When she came back, she said it was mailed to you!  What?  I told her I had specifically told them not to mail it, as I would pick it up.  I explained that it would take 5-7 days to get to me now and I would be out of the medication this week.  She left to talk to the pharmacist.  When she returned she gave me a vial with 10 pills to get me through until I received the order in the mail.  I really appreciated they did that for me.

On the way back I was in picture taking mode:

Lots of cattle on our drive today

As we entered Welch, OK.  The Welch welcome sign says Welcome to  Cash Country Johnny & June, Welch Lions Club.  Click on the link above to see why Welch is known as Cash Country.
Sorry for the rain drops - windshield wipers were not in sync with my camera!  Lol!
We drive through Welch often as we travel to Vinita, on Highway 59 that leads back to Chetopa, KS.  It has been several years since we drove through downtown Welch, so today we did that.
Headed north - there is a Cafe on the left called "The Cow".  We've never been there, although we've heard it's really good.  We need to do that!

And here is Main Street as we head back south.  Welch is a small community but a busy and active one.
Welch, OK is located 12 miles south of Chetopa, KS.

When we returned to Oswego I asked Dean to drive by the lot so we could make sure the water had been turned on.  It was and they left a trash container for us as well.  Now that Dean is down there almost daily he needed it.  His trash can was almost full.

The irises just keep blooming.  They are so pretty.  I have sure enjoyed them.  I checked the oriole feeder and it was empty again.  I've filled it twice and Dean has filled it once.  I took the cup in and we filled it again.  There was an oriole flying to and from trees either side of it.  I guess he was waiting for us to leave.  We no sooner got in the car, than he was on the feeder.  Hungry little guy!!!

It is grandson Sam's birthday today.  Mom and Dad wanted to know if we wanted to watch him open his presents from us this evening, and of course, we did.  He is so cute!  He loves to play cowboy.  For Christmas they had tried, with no luck, finding a toy gun set for him.  We happened across one in Las Cruces, NM at The Billy the Kid Store, so we purchased it and sent it to them last week so he would have it to open today.  I asked Megan what else he might like.  She said he loves to put on the boots at the babysitter's house every day, so we ordered him a pair of "cowboy" boots.  He was excited when he saw what they were and said, Boot!  He pulled them out of the box and immediately started putting them on.  You could tell he had done this before.  At 2, he was a master at getting the boots on.

Sam with his toy guns and his cowboy boots.  He told us Thank You!
Of course we had to visit with Josh, older brother, who turned 6 last month, and

sister Sarah, who will turn 4 in July.  We had a great visit with all of the kids, then spent some time visiting with Mom and Dad.  Sorry for the lights in Josh's picture.

It was nearly 8 or a little after before we hung up.  Afterwards I was working on the blog post when Dean suggested we have some ice cream.  Tonight we didn't have a shake just a small bowl of ice cream.  I added a little chocolate syrup and some pecan pieces to mine.  At 9 Dean said he was tired and ready to go to bed, so I just went up too.  He hasn't slept good the last two nights, so I didn't want to take the chance of waking him, if I came to bed later.  However, neither of us had any problems falling asleep!

It was too cloudy for a sunset - this is what we had instead.

We sure love our grandkids, and we miss them, especially when they are far away like Josh, Sarah and Sam.  We are thankful we can visit with them online and make trips to see them occasionally.
