Monday, February 3, 2020 - Trip to Nuevo Progresso, MX; Lunch at Casa de Marisco; Slow Drive Home; Planning for Next Stops; Spoiled by the Rain; Leftovers & TV
I was shocked when I woke up and it was already 5:30am. It was 67 this morning outside - compared to 47 yesterday....wow, what a change. It was pretty comfortable in Bentley.
After posting yesterday's blog I made our protein shakes - frozen fruit, protein powder, water, almond milk, flax seed and just a bit of stevia. They are quick, filling and usually hold us over until noon just fine.
Shortly before 9 we walked outside. Lin, Deb, Mike and Peg were already waiting outside. Lin drove the four of them and Dean and I followed in our truck. It's almost an hour drive to Nuevo Progresso, Mexico. We arrived shortly before 10. I was surprised at the number of people already in the parking lots. We paid our $1.00 in quarters as we entered into Mexico. All I really wanted was vanilla, so we just looked around and followed along with the others. At one point I took off with Peg as she was looking for some decorations for a party they are having in April for Mike's 80th birthday.
We headed back around 11:30, paying our 30 cents to re-enter to the US, and then stood in line to present our passports. It went much faster than I expected and we were soon back at our trucks. We followed Lin and passengers to the restaurant. We have visited each year we've been here and it's one of my favorites. We will miss having Dave/Nancy, Jay/Stella and Jack/Lynette with us this trip. The food was wonderful. All of us ordered Monday's lunch special, 2 beef fajitas with beans and rice or 3 fish tacos with beans and rice. Of course we had tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was much warmer than I'm used to and I do like spicy salsa. I had to finally quit eating it. I was afraid the roof of my mouth was going to be blistered it was so spicy. LOL! I could only eat one of my fajitas, so one came home with me, but Dean finished his.
Dean wanted to take the long way home - going south and catching Military Drive. He enjoys driving through the countryside to bypass the traffic, which is just fine with me. We returned about 2-2:30. We will gather around 5 for our evening fire.
In the meantime I spent time checking out sights and things to do at our next two stops, and washed another load of clothes. I gathered quite a bit of information for the trip - more than we will probably have time to do - but that's okay, we'll have some choices.
Shortly before 5, we walked outside and headed to Mike and Peg's with a new supply of pellets, when it started sprinkling; so sitting around the fire visiting did not happen tonight. Hopefully tomorrow night the weather won't disappoint us.
I made Dean a sandwich with the leftover pulled chicken and I warmed up my leftover fajita. Now we are both back on our computers and watching TV. We've got plans for the next two days. As you can see, I did not take any pictures....again - I must get back into the groove of taking them. Maybe a string around my finger??
