February 26, 2020 - Happy 26th Anniversary to Us; Breakfast at Big House Cafe; Quiet Afternoon; Dinner at China Buffet

It was around 5 when I woke up this morning.  I turned the coffee on and set down with my phone.  When I opened Facebook a message popped up wishing Dean and I a Happy Anniversary.  It was a display of various pictures of us over the past several years that have been posted on Facebook.  So I forwarded it to Dean to wish him Happy Anniversary.

Wow, so much has happened in the past 26 years but it's been wonderful.  I'm so thankful for my husband.  He is the best.  There isn't anything he wouldn't do for me if it is possible.  I'm very grateful for that.  We have between us six wonderful kids, five wonderful daughter-in-laws, and 15 grandchildren with the 16th on the way.  We never would have imagined our life would be this full 26 years later.  I pray God gives us many more years together.

When Dean got up, I told him...I think you got a message on your phone this morning.  Of course it went through Facebook Messenger, and he could not get it to open.  It kept asking him for his password.  He tried that several times and finally gave up.  So I tried to open it on my phone, but it would not open there either.  It was a neat little picturegram, but not worth spending this much time on.

I suggested we go to breakfast this morning - since it is Dean's favorite meal of the day!  I told him to pick a place he thought sounded good while I got ready.  He chose Big House Cafe in downtown Casa Grande.

My sister's friend Sharon and her husband Larry spend their winters in Yuma, AZ.  I sent her a text this morning to let her know when we would be in their area.  After a few text messages back and forth we decided we would meet up Sunday, March 1.  We haven't set a time yet, as I want to visit with Dean, so I'll get back to her on that.  It will be fun to visit with them.  She reads our blog.  She commented in our text messages that even though we have not met, she felt like she knew me.  Crystal and Sharon met at County Treasurer meetings many years ago and have remained good friends even after Sharon retired several years ago.

Big House Cafe was a good choice.  We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, however we took that it as a good sign it would hold up to the testaments on Facebook.  People were still showing up and a few were waiting outside when we left.  The staff had tables cleaned, and new customers seated within a few minutes of customers leaving.  The food was very good.  I ordered two egg/potato/cheese tacos, with salsa on the side.  Delicious!  I had to bring one home they were so big.  I'll warm it up tomorrow morning.  Dean was very happy with his meal as well, so we recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area.

My breakfast tacos.

While we were waiting for our breakfast, Dean was still trying to get the message from Facebook to come up, when he realized he had shut Facebook Messenger off.  When he reactivated it, sure enough there it was!

We didn't spend much time in town but headed to Bentley shortly before 10.  I wanted to get the blog posts caught up, and wash a couple loads of laundry.  Dean enjoyed watching TV.  It was a very low key afternoon.

When the welcome committee gentleman stopped by yesterday, he gave us a mapped area indicating areas where restaurants were located.  He mentioned they had a fairly new Chinese restaurant.  On our way to Casa Grande we actually talked about trying to find a Chinese restaurant.  At approximately 4:15 we headed into town, where we easily found China Buffet.  Our opinion, Big House Cafe was much better.  Reviews were pretty good, but we were disappointed with the choices.  I chose the Mongolian bar.  Overall it was pretty good, with a decent choice of meats and veggies; however the sauce was bland compared to others I've had.  I tried a few bites of their orange chicken (it was kind of spicy - not like any I've had before) and the spicy chicken was bland.  I think they got the chickens mixed up.  Lol!  It was not the Anniversary dinner we hoped for, but it was okay....and more importantly, we were together.  That's what matters most AND I didn't have to cook.  Sometimes you just have to look at the good in the situation and move on.

We needed to get a couple of things at Walmart for the RV and Truck, plus Dean wanted to fill up with diesel before we leave tomorrow morning.

Before leaving town, I wanted to see The Neon Sign Park in downtown Casa Grande.  It was a cute little area with old neon signs.  My pictures didn't come out quite as good as I hoped even though I used the Night mode.

On the way back to the park, I took a few pictures of the sun glow as it settled for the night.  The first one was taken as we passed a nice park downtown, and the next two were taken as we moved south of town.  I couldn't believe the number of planes in the sky all around us.  A busy traffic path.
As we drove by the downtown park.  It had beautiful trees.
Pretty skies as we headed back to Bentley.

I wanted to include a couple of pictures I took Tuesday afternoon that for some reason didn't show up in my Googles Photo until this morning.  In the picture you can see the black dog in the background.  His owner is sitting on the steps of their RV/park model.  Evidently the owner was throwing dog food/treats in the air and this dog would jump up to get it.  I've never seen a dog jump so high and straight up in the air from all four legs as this dog did.  I tried several times to get a picture of him in the air, but this is the best I could get before he stopped.  His feet were about even with the slide in the picture when he was in the air.  It was really an amazing sight!  He was coming down in this photo and I'm not sure the one back leg is on the ground yet.

We both agreed it was a great day, and most importantly we were together.  It's been a fantastic 26 years!

  1. Happy Anniversary to you both!
Doug's dog, Yuma, jumps exactly like that. Maybe you will witness it tomorrow. :)

  2. Happy Anniversary.

When you next text Sharon or meet up with her and Larry, tell her "hello" from Joyce and Larry in Iola, KS. I worked in the County Clerk's office which is next to the Treasurer's office where Sharon worked and I'm pretty sure I met Crystal or have at least heard Sharon talk about her. Small world, isn't it?

  3. Happy anniversary guys!..

We are still in Texas for another few weeks then heading east into Louisiana and Mississippi. Hoping to find a space high and dry from flooding as we have to go back to KCMO in late March for what I hope is my last trial. Thinking we will find a commercial RV Campground, like in Carthage, to leave the rig for a week while we drive back to KC.

    1. Thanks Mark. Yes, stay away from that flooding. I'd invite you to stay at my cousin's park since we'll be around, but he's been full - I'm just hoping we can get a spot! Lol! I'm happy for him though.

    2. One more thought - if you do stay in Carthage, give us a call. We would drive over for a day if you will be there for awhile.

  4. Congratulations on 26 years together! Lots of grandkids. Dolly and I had four children but only mustered up four grandkids. Not too productive.
