Thursday, February 20, 2020 - Breakfast at Oasis Cafe; Trip to Fort Stockton; Lunch at Howard's Drive-In; Laundry; Preparing to Move Tomorrow

After working on yesterday's post after I woke this morning, I got up to make our morning protein shakes.  Dean said aren't we going to eat breakfast this morning?  Oh, I forgot about that!  We've been talking about eating at Oasis Cafe each time we pass by, and today is the day.  We arrived at 8:30 and were quite happy with our meals, and forgot to take pictures.  I chose the french toast (some of the best I've had in a very long time) and Dean has his typical eggs/sausage/hash browns with toast.  He said his was also very good.

The sky to the south was so pretty, but to the northeast it was getting dark.

Even though Marathon is a small community many people pass through here staying a day or two at a number of places in town.  There is a hotel, a motel/RV park (where we stayed) and a number of houses for rent.  The main street has a few restaurants as well as one located in the Gage Hotel.  At our park there is quite a bit of activity as RV's come and go daily.  There are sites for 16 RV's.  We've had new neighbors next to us almost daily.

Area where most RV's are parked - we are to the right in front of our white truck.

We returned to the RV and while waiting to leave for a trip to Fort Stockton I put several things away I knew we would not be using before we leave in the morning.

We left around 11 to drive to Fort Stockton.  It was a drizzly, foggy day.  We were following behind two RV's.  Dean wanted to pass but the roads were just too curvy and foggy.  We finally fell in to their rhythm and followed them all the way into Ft. Stockton.  I couldn't help but take pictures along the way.

We followed this guy in the entire 59 miles to Ft. Stockton.
Even if it is drizzly weather it makes for beautiful skies.

I made an appointment with a chiropractor in Ft. Stockton for 12:30 a couple of days ago. While in town, we need to pick up a couple of things at Walmart and get diesel fuel for our move tomorrow.  We arrived at the chiropractor about 10-15 minutes early which gave me time to fill out paperwork.  While my shoulder and back were not as bad as they were a few days ago, it was still bothering me enough I knew I'd feel better if I dealt with it now.  As I suspected the adjustment really helped and while it was pretty sore tonight, after using ice it felt much better.

We didn't take time to eat lunch before we left, so before making our Walmart stop, we noticed Howard's Drive-In located just next door.  The cheeseburgers were delicious.  Our meal came with a drink and fries.  They gave us enough fries for four people.  I would definitely return for a burger here.  Their sign says they have been in business since 1964.

Afterwards we picked up the few grocery items we needed and headed back to Marathon.

On the way back to Marathon.

I worked on blog posts the rest of the afternoon, but we took a break around 4 to take some pictures of the RV Park.  It really has a southeast feel to it and we've enjoyed our stay here.

Marathon Entrance sign to the west of the park - Bentley is in the far right corner.  I didn't realize it until I was cropping this picture.
 Pictures within the park.

This is the area where they hold the star gazing  but as you know we missed out on that due to the weather.

They have several cabins/motel on site as well.

Loved this old wagon.
The following pictures are of their courtyard.  It has 3 iron gates on the north, east and west and on the south there are two open doorways.  They are currently placing rock on the walls of this gated portion.

You can see the gate behind this fire pit.  It is in the center of the courtyard.

To the northeast there is a nice fireplace with seating.

Closeup of the fireplace area.

We've had a wonderful time here.  Tomorrow we begin our drive to Las Cruces, NM.

Feb 24 - We are on the road now to Bowie, AZ, having just left Las Cruces less than an hour ago.  We were busy, busy there seeing things, then catching up with our to-do's.  I've got lots of pictures to sort, but hope to get that post finished soon.
