We decided to go back to Mexico this morning to pick up a couple of things. We were in and out within twenty minutes - there was no waiting in line to leave this morning.

A few cars in line to enter the parking lot at Las Algodones, but there was lots of good parking - closer to the entrance. |
Our next stop was at Fry's Grocery store. I've heard several of my blogger friends talk about Fry's in their posts over the years. It is a little closer than Walmart, and it was nice to be in just a regular grocery store. It was busy but not like WM. I loved this place and even more so when I realized my Dillon's reward card was reciprocal with Fry's. I saved almost $6 today with our Senior discount and the specials they had.
I finished doing a few things in the rig, then made sandwiches for lunch, followed by an apple. We left soon after, as have a few things we want to do this afternoon before we leave the area.
Our first stop was to see "The Plank Road". I love historical sites.

The two above are remnants of the original plank road. |
When we arrived here I told Dean I needed to find a restroom. Once we were finished we drove up the road, and he noticed some pit toilets in the park area. I really do not like these things, but the alternative was to drive back to the RV, then back to this area again. So, in I went - wow, what a surprise. It was the cleanest and non-smelling pit toilet I've ever been in. If only they were all like that. Still not my favorite - but it was tolerable.

IF you can have a favorite pit toilet - this is mine! 😏 |
Dean and I both love to drive back roads. After we left the plank road area, we decided to head north on a road that leads to Blythe, CA. We didn't travel that far, but we did stop to visit Tumco, CA. I did not have any prior knowledge of this location, so we weren't prepared for the 1.5 mile hike to visit this historical town, but we enjoyed reading the information about it.

The rocky drive to Tumco. It was only a short distance but very rough. I'm glad we were in the truck. |

Our last stop was at the Official Center of the World, Felicity, CA. Click the link and it will give you a good description of what the Mayor of Felicity has built over the years. A few comments 1) we were disappointed the pyramid where the "official center of the world" is located was locked (the young lady in the gift shop told us she had to lock it due to others that visited earlier being disrespectful). She told us since she was the only person there she could not go unlock it for us. (Close enough to the gift shop you could see it - might take 15-20 seconds to walk to it) We both wondered about that - if you could leave to lock it, and the people had left, why couldn't she unlock it? 2) we loved the granite walls where many historical events were remembered, and 3) we loved visiting the church on the hill, where hymns were being played. The bell rings every so often. While I'm not sure how often it rings, I would guess every 15 minutes, as it rang several times while we were there. For $3 each it was worth the time we spent there, mostly reading the various granite wall engravings that documented historical periods in our world, which we found interesting.

I believe this is Pilot Knob - located southeast from Pilot Knob RV Park.

Such a beautiful, peaceful place with familiar hymns playing in the background. |
We returned to the RV for a short time to rest and do a few things around Bentley, before we headed back to Yuma, to purchase diesel for our move tomorrow. We made a quick stop at a Walmart nearby for some juice and then returned to the RV Park. By now, it was time to fix dinner. Dean grilled some polish sausages, while I sauteed broccoli and cauliflower for our side. It was filling and good. Afterwards, Dean suggested we go outside and sit for awhile. I took a picture of this beautiful sunset.

Gorgeous Sunset - our final one here at Pilot Knob RV Resort. |
After a week spent here, we have been happy with the park location. Las Algodones and Yuma are nearby, there is so much to see and do, El Centro was less than an hour from here and we found it to be a very quiet place. (You can hear road noise from the Interstate, but most of the time we never noticed it.) The park is fairly large (for our standards) but very laid back.
As the sun went behind the clouds, the temperature immediately dropped and a mosquito arrived. Those two things were all we needed to get inside.
Sounds like you've had a busy day and week. I enjoyed Plank Road but agree that Tumco was a disappoint with all the walking required to see basically nothing. Oh well. Good exercise. Safe travels.
