Friday, March 13, 2020 - Blog Catch-up, Visiting Friends in Benson, More Rain Ending with a Beautiful Sunset.

As soon as I had the coffee started this morning, I set down to work on the blog and continued until lunch.  Sometime between 1-2, we decided we needed to get outside and do something.  We wanted to visit Mount Lemmon later today hoping to catch a sunset view, but it was too early for that.  I had contacted a friend by Facebook before we arrived to see if they were still in Benson for the winter.  Marcia had responded yes.  Since I wasn't feeling well the day we arrived, and we had plans the next day, I decided to take a chance to see if they might be available this afternoon.  They were going to a founder's meeting at the Escapee park in Benson, where they spend their winters, but told us to come on over.  We didn't realize what the founder's meeting was until we arrived.

It was raining as we headed toward the Interstate that would take us to Benson.

It was more of a banquet....to honor the original founders of the park, and it was packed.  We did enjoy hearing about how the park came to fruition, along with a movie documenting the construction of the park, that played continually as their emcee talked about the park.  There were a number of original members in attendance.  It was approximately 30 years ago when the park first opened.  Dean and I boondocked here two nights following our attendance at the Escapade in March 2017.  While there, we spent a day visiting nearby Tombstone, and spending some time with Glen and Marcia.

We were both impressed with the park and the excellent planning of the original founders.  The lots are large enough to accommodate even the new, larger RV's, and provide room for small casita's at each site.  Glenn and Marsha had been on the list for a number of years  for one of these sites.  Prior to obtaining one, they were parked in a strip at the back of the park until their name moved to the top of the list.  The park also has a number of paved boondocking sites in the park.

After refreshments were served, we followed them to their site where we enjoyed visiting for an hour or so.  Besides their RV, parked on the lot, they have a beautiful casita, with a covered porch, a full bathroom and a large room.  Marsha sews, so she has plenty of room to lay things out as she works.

You could tell it was raining to the west, and at one time we saw a small portion of a rainbow - the colors were brilliant.  Unfortunately, there was too much traffic at that time to get a good picture of it.

We left the park shortly after 5.  While we were gone, the clouds had gathered around Tucson, especially east of I-10, where we could tell it was raining. Regrettably, we made the decision not to visit Mount Lemmon due to the weather, but we did enjoy an amazing sunset in the west with only small sprinkles of rain.  The sun was so intense as we headed west it was difficult for me to see at all.  Dean recently purchased one of those visors that promotes better protection when driving into the sun and he said it really helped.  I'm sure glad.  My eyes are sensitive to light/sun.  With the heavy traffic at that time of day, and the sun, I'm not sure I would have been able to drive in it.

The sun was showing off tonight.

We were both tired, so we stopped at a McDonald's for a quick cheeseburger, then found a Circle K to fuel up, readying us our move east tomorrow.

Taken at the RV Park.

We had a wonderful time here in Arizona.  We enjoyed the weather and low humidity of the area.  There are so many things to see and do in our beautiful country, and we are so appreciative of the opportunity to travel our amazing United States of America.
