Tuesday, March 17, 2020 - Homeward Bound to Kansas!
It worked well putting our dining room slide in last night. We cannot our table or access our pantry, but that was not a problem this morning. I worked on the blog while we enjoyed our coffee. We went right from our coffee to our protein shake and then it was packing time. We pulled out of Alanreed Travel Center shortly before 9, then headed north toward Wichita, KS. We changed our original plan to go through Oklahoma City because they were calling for severe storms there today, however, this morning that threat has dropped to just heavy rain. Since two of Dean's boys are in Wichita, we moved ahead with our revised plan, so we could see them before we return to Oswego.
When Dean went outside he discovered we were blanketed with a heavy fog.
Hopefully it will burn off soon. We pulled out of Alanreed Travel Center shortly before 9, and in just a short distance we headed North on Highway 70. We drove in a heavy fog about 2/3 of our day. Not too far north of I-40, we noticed water standing alongside the road. It was apparent they've had significant rain here. Ponds appeared to be overflowing and it seemed like a lake there was so much water. Nearing the end, you could tell there was it was a some kind of body of water overflowing.
With the heavy fog, we were just amazed at people on the road. Twice we had people pass us in dangerous conditions. One guy flew around us with a car coming, the car had to move to the shoulder. The guy passing took his sweet time moving back into the proper lane. Of course, Dean immediately slowed, but it was way too close. The second one, an RVer started to pass the car behind us when all of a sudden the car pulled out in front of him. Both times we were driving at the speed limit, and in both instances all of the drivers passed us up as if we were standing still! I'm thankful Dean is such an attentive driver, pays close attention to what is going on around him and follows the speed limits.
I was on Facebook as we traveled for miles. I have been frustrated with it and until recently haven't spent much time on it. However, with all of the information on CV-2019 being posted, I was interested in learning what I could. We were planning to meet up with both Heath and Jarred and their families once we arrived in Wichita. After reading a few posts of real life situations about people contracting this disease (one I know personally) and how serious it was proving to be, we made the decision to follow through on the recommended 14 day self quarantine before being around anyone. We have not been with anyone since March 12, so at this point we should be safe after 9 more days. It's just a small amount of time to make sure we are virus free. As of now, March 27th will be our day to re-enter society. Fortunately it does not mean we need to stay inside. If weather permits we can still walk in the mornings as long as we keep our distance (recommended 6 feet) from others. Dean can go to the garage to piddle around, and believe me I have enough to keep me busy during this time, here in the RV. We have enough food to get us through, and if we do happen to need something, I know my daughter or sister would bring it to us. They can leave it at the door, or in one of our vehicles, so we are not in contact with each other.
It was a long, dreary day, and we were glad to see our Kansas State sign welcoming us home again. We still had several more hours to travel from this point, continuing in the fog, some of it quite heavy.
As we passed through Plains, KS we noticed these large tarps over what we assume are some type of crop.
Many times the fog was like a big white blanket covering the road in front of us, then it would clear some as we approached a town along the way.
This picture was taken approximately 20 minutes later - and the fog was gone. Just like that! We still had another 2.5 hours of driving left so it was a welcome sight.
Buffalo statues on the hill. There was a baby calf behind the mama that I could not capture due to some high grass.
We arrived at All-Seasons RV Park in Goddard, KS at 3:53pm. They are so nice to us here. When I originally made our reservation for two nights, the lady who took our reservation said we would be in site 1. However, when I called back to let him know we were only staying one night, he said he knew we preferred site 7, so he had moved us there. Yes, we've been there enough they know us now! The staff is so nice and accommodating.
We needed fuel, so we headed to the nearby Dillon's to fuel up. It was nearly 5, so after we returned to Bentley, I warmed up the leftover taco soup for dinner. Afterwards, we literally set down and stayed there until it was time to go to bed. Yes, even after sitting in the truck all day, we were too tired to do anything else. We eased back in the recliners and rested until it was time to go to bed. Goodnight!

Be safe and stay healthy. Sounds like you will soon be home. We can't quarantine until we get into Canada, it will be weird not seeing family for that long. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is weird and frustrating. I just want to hug my kids and grandkids. I think they are all dealing with it better than me. I am keeping busy though. I can't imagine ever running out of things to do. Lol!
