I was determined to finish Monday's blog post in plenty of time to add pictures and post it before going to bed. However, as you know from my short post yesterday, I was having Technical Difficulties. Google Photos was not cooperating at all. I could not upload images from Google Albums, or images from my phone to Chromebook. I didn't feel real good Monday evening, so that probably didn't help as my concentration wasn't up to par either.
So this morning, after I had poured my first cup of coffee, I was racking my brain about what might be causing the problem with the pictures, when I remembered my phone had just updated a couple of nights ago. That made me wonder how much storage was available on my phone. Sure enough, it was getting really close to it's max. I deleted a bunch of apps from my phone (that I rarely, if ever used), cleared the cache, and my photos uploaded in just a short time. It didn't take me long to add the pictures - except for the last two. They uploaded to Google photos on my Chromebook, but I could not get them to post to the blog. But when I tried this morning, it worked like a charm!

Pictures that were for Monday's post. It was a beautiful evening after the rain. |
Dean and I were surprised to find sand dunes just a short distance down the road. They were really beautiful.
Then, this palm tree farm.
There were many fields of various vegetables. They were harvesting in this field. We think it was cauliflower. It was difficult to tell that far away - but definitely something white.
We noticed this canal (below) was very near the north side of the road. Dean said that's The All American Canal. I just looked at him and said, how did you know that? He pointed to the GPS on the truck - yes, it was right there! It's a very interesting read if you'd like to check it out. Here is the link.
We arrived at El Centro ("Where the Sun Spends the Winter.") a little after 2. I like their city slogan. Our first stop was at the Visitors Information Center (VIC) to get some information on the area. We enjoyed talking to the young lady who assisted us. She had a great smile, was happy to visit with us, and gave us some good ideas on what to see and do. Even though we are only here for a few hours, we appreciated her enthusiasm and willingness to help us. She gave us a very nice and helpful booklet: 2019-2020 El Centro Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. It was full of information on El Centro; as well as other things to see and do in the area. Some of those were near our campground and several were near Borrego Springs, where we will spend four days after we leave the Yuma/Winterhaven area.
After we left the VIC, we drove around El Centro, including the original downtown area.
We had made arrangements to meet Logan at Walmart - which is not too far from the Naval Air Facility Navy Base where he is stationed. He called us shortly after 4 and said he was heading our way. We didn't mind waiting just a little longer to see this special guy! We enjoyed watching a few Navy helicopters flying past us a few times during our wait.
I spotted his Jeep as he headed our way. Oh my goodness, it was so good to see this young man! Dean took this picture:
We visited for a bit, and then he offered to drive us to dinner. While at the VIC, we asked about a good local place to eat and they recommended Burgers & Beer. She told us their burgers were very good. So that is where we headed - to the other side of El Centro where the Imperial Mall is located.
We had a great visit with Logan, and our food was delicious. We all chose a different burger from their huge selection. Logan's burger had 5 types of cheese on it, I had the Guacamole burger and Dean chose the Grilled Onion burger. Logan and Dean had steak fries with theirs and I chose a Caesar side salad. We visited for quite awhile after our meal.
Unfortunately, it was time for us to head back, but we will meet up again on Friday evening when he joins us near Borrego Springs, CA for the weekend.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was anxious to hear about Logan's weekend trip to Big Bear, CA. When we saw him, we immediately asked what was going on with his arm, as he had it wrapped - you can see it in the photo above. He told us he fell snowboarding and they think he may have broke his wrist. Tomorrow (Wednesday) he is going to San Diego to a larger medical facility to have it checked.

Those dunes west of the park are beautiful. They are what I call 'my little Egypt'. :) Especially when the wind has blown enough to cover the quad tracks.
ReplyDeleteYour grandson is a handsome young man for sure! Trying to see what his tat is. Is it a catfish?
You'll have fun at Borrego Springs, sounds like the gal at VIC was a big help. :)
Sounds like you had a great day in El Centro. I've never been there. Logan is sure a nice young man. I can see why you're so proud of him.
