Monday, March 16, 2020 - Travel to Alanreed Travel Center, Alanreed, TX

Monday, March 16, 2020 - Travel to Alanreed Travel Center, at Alanreed, TX

I've been waking up around 4:30 the past several mornings and again today.  We have another fairly long travel day ahead of us.  After finishing the coffee, I made our protein shake, then we started packing up.  We left Midway RV Park at 9:00am.  We will experience another time change today.  It makes for short day losing an hour.  Not to a point of being a problem, but driving all day can be wearing on us.  I'm thankful Dean is a great driver and in his work over the years he has spent much time on the road - lots of it in the evening due to call-outs.  He's a very focused driver.

Our park was located south of Roswell, NM.  As we drove north we saw this.  While we passed it yesterday, there were two vehicles pulled off the road and we didn't notice it.  Dean pulled over so I could roll my window down to take this picture.

 A long lonesome highway.

As we headed north we passed through Portales, NM where I was able to take this picture.

I've never seen so many trains almost all double stacked like this one, and the semis are in full force.  Maybe it's always this busy, but we wonder if it is due to the product shortages we are hearing about.

I wish we would have counted the trains we saw coming and going, passing each other many times with the double set of tracks for miles.

As we entered Amarillo, this cowboy welcomed us!

Lots of open space here.

Groom, Texas and their cross.  So beautiful!

Britten, Texas and their leaning water tower.
We pulled into Alanreed Travel Center and Motel around 4.  We stayed here 3 years ago, almost to the day as we returned from the Escapees Escapade in Tucson.  It was extremely windy and rainy that evening.  Today was also very windy, but it was a beautiful, gorgeous day, although we expect that to change overnight.

The overnight forecast is calling for rain.  Our dining room slide seems to hold water, and even though Dean is diligent about using a squeegee and an old towel to get the water off, any remaining droplets results in muddy splatter on the ceiling when the slide is in. This has been a problem since we purchased it.  The slide is quite tall, so it is very close to the ceiling when it is in, so any droplets seem to find the ceiling. Tonight we decided to pull that slide in early, hopefully to prevent it from happening.  With the slide in, it does keep us from accessing the pantry, but I made sure we had everything set out that we needed for our lunch tomorrow before closing the slide.  I'm all for stopping the mud droplets.  It splatters on the couch too, so I am constantly wiping it off after a rain or heavy dew.

I am diligently trying to get caught up with the blog, but most evenings I'm too tired to work on it.  I can't keep my eyes open, but tonight I was able to make headway.  Selecting pictures and cropping them take up the most time, but having pictures helps tell the story.

I am thankful for the beautiful travel day we had today, and for each of you following along on our journey.

  2. Lots of great pictures. Caught about every unique object along the way. Hope when you get home you can get that slide leak fixed. Blogs are a lot of work and hard to do when too tired. I know that feeling. Safe travels.
