HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISTI DAWN!
Thursday, March 12, 2020 - Happy Birthday Misti Dawn!; Cleaning Bentley; Meeting Another Longtime RV Blogger Friend for the First Time
I sent Misti a birthday text this morning. I am so blessed to have her as my daughter. I miss her and Haleigh but we will see them very soon.
I haven't had much chance to clean Bentley for almost two weeks, so that was on my agenda first thing this morning. We are having visitors after lunch and I'd like to remove the layer of dust Bentley accumulated after being in the desert during that time.
Dean told me he thought the shower was cleaner than it was when we bought it. It must be the light here! Brighter or something? Lol!
We had a light lunch before our friends arrived. Mike, blogger of Phannie and Mae, and I have been following each others blogs for several years now. After an attempt to get together a year or two ago, which didn't work out, we now have another opportunity since they are at an RV Park here in Tucson as well. Mike and his lovely wife Sandy drove to our park after lunch. They came in to visit and we enjoyed getting to know each other better. After an hour so, Mike asked us if we'd like to take a tour of the Tucson area, then have dinner afterwards. Of course we said yes. While we were in Tucson three years ago for an Escapade, the only thing we did while here was visit the Saguaro National Parks. (Speaking of that, we actually drove through one of the Saguaro NP on our way to Justin's Diamond J yesterday)
(Note: Mike has a great sense of humor. Reading his blog post of our day was very entertaining - you might enjoy reading it as well. Just click on the link above if you need a smile or two.)

Our first stop was at Sentinel Peak. If you would like to know more about the mountain, just click on the link. We enjoyed amazing views over Tucson, including the downtown area. The large A at the top is explained in the link as well.

Mike drove us through the downtown area and pointed out various sites along the way. We made a stop at Amy's donuts - where we purchased 2 apple fritters (for our breakfast tomorrow) and a specialty donut for each of us. I chose a lemon old fashioned donut and Dean chose a maple bacon donut.

What a great mural! |
Back in the car, I asked Mike and Sandy if they had ever been to a Breadsmith; and they had not. After explaining about the one we often visited in McAllen, TX; Sandy googled it on her phone. We discovered there was a Breadsmith not too far away, so away we went. We both purchased items there as well.
We were near the RV Park where they were staying, so we drove through it. It was a very nice KOA park, that is owned and operated by Lazy Daze RV's. Mike pointed out the solar array's that also provide shade for the RV's which are fortunate enough to have a site underneath them.
By now, it was time to head to our dinner location - El Torero, a place recommended to Mike by a friend of his. When we arrived, we might all have been a little skeptical. It set by itself in an area that sure made us wonder. Mike was concerned about it after trying a new restaurant lately with friends that did not turn out so well. However, we all agreed sometimes places that may not appear the way you expect, often have the best food, so we rolled the dice and IT WAS A WIN. If you are ever in Tucson - and, if you like Mexican food - you need to visit El Torero. It was so good. I ordered a plate that included a green tamale (green chilies rolled in the middle of a tamale), a taco, a tostada and an enchilada. The taco and tostada were very good, however, the enchilada and tamale were amazing. The waitress told us the tamales were just made yesterday so were very fresh. The enchilada was filled with cheese, but it was the sauce that made it. I believe it is the best enchilada I've ever tasted......even surpassing Casa De Marisco in Weslaco, TX which was my favorite. Mike's friend was spot on with his recommendation. We were all thankful we tried it. Everyone working there was very nice and seemed to happily engage in conversation. By the way, we must have been early, as it gradually became busier while we were there.

My meal - I couldn't eat all of the tostada. |
Before we left we asked one of the waitresses to take a picture of us.

Dean enjoyed seeing this pay telephone inside the restaurant. |
I think we were all stuffed from this fabulous meal. Mike drove us back to our park and after hugs and handshakes, they headed back to their park.
Again, I am so thankful for the friends we have met. This trip has allowed me to meet up with 3 bloggers I've followed for several years, and meet 2 new bloggers that I now follow. It's been a blogging good time!
We had a great time with you guys--you're our kind of people. We must meet up again for sure! Be sure and holler if you are anywhere nearby.
ReplyDeleteWe did as well Mike, and be sure, if we know you are close we'll reach out.
