Wednesday, October 2, 2019 - On the Road Again; Meeting up with RV Friends

Wednesday, October 2, 2019 - On the Road Again; Meeting up with RV Friends

The first time I woke up it was only a little after 2...I rolled over and went back to sleep.  When I woke up at 4:38 I laid in bed for 10 minutes or so, before finally getting up.  I know I'm going to have to keep moving today if we are going to leave the park by 9.

After putting the coffee on, I did my exercises.  Yesterday, when I woke up my right shoulder was really hurting.  I thought there was a good chance it was from the previous day's exercise with 5# weights, but I pushed on and did them again.  Between that and the exercise of cleaning, the pain was gone last night and it still feels good this morning.

I enjoyed my morning coffee while I finished up yesterday's post.  Dean woke up at 5:30, so I headed upstairs to make the bed, and fold the sheets I had hung in the shower overnight to finish drying.  I drank another cup of coffee, then made my morning shake before getting in the shower.

Once I was ready, we both were busy packing things up and unhooking outside.  I cleaned the front window on the truck, while Dean finished up all he had to do.  I definitely need a small 2 or 3 step ladder or taller stool to carry with us. (I think we have one, so we'll have to find it.)  I had to stand on a 5 gallon bucket.  It wasn't quite tall enough and it made me a little uncomfortable.  I was leaning forward and my right foot came up just a bit and the bucket wobbled.  Uh, I won't do that again.  The windows definitely look better, well, until the sun hits them and shows the streaks.  At least any pictures I take might be a little better than normal.  I've been complaining about the windows not being clean for picture taking, so while Dean's doing most of the outside work, I can get this done.  We make a good team!  We had a goal to leave by 9, and we pulled out of the park at 8:56am.

We turned on to 59 Highway headed south until we turned on to Highway 69 outside of Vinita.  We do not look forward to driving on this road because of the awful road conditions.  We've heard that improvements have been made and we are hoping they are much improved.  Outside of Big Cabin I can assure you the right lane is still in need of major improvements.  The left lane is pretty good, but of course we can't drive in it unless passing - and we typically are not passing since we are usually running slower than most vehicles on the road.  About 3-4 miles in it is slightly improved.  If it stays this way it will be bearable.

I have always loved this sculpture as you enter McAlester, OK.  By the time I could grab my camera we missed part of it.  I found some information about it on Roadside America.

I haven't included a flag picture in a long time.  The wind was really moving this one.  I love seeing our country's flag flying!

Unfortunately, Highway 69 went from good to bad several times before we arrived in Durant, OK at the Choctaw Casino RV Resort.  The RV Park is very nice and has a wonderful meeting room that we can use.  They had us checked in and we were in our site within 15 minutes of arriving.  We immediately started seeing various friends.  It takes me about 15 minutes to set up inside.  First thing in this heat it to turn on the air conditioners on.  It takes about an hour to really get it cooled down when it's this hot.  About 3:00 Dean opened the blinds - fortunately the sun is not on our large windows at this site.  We noticed Clarence and Barbara were two sites down sitting out with several other friends, so we walked over to visit.  Nearly an hour and a half later we headed back to the rig before everyone met at 5:00 in the clubhouse.  It was so much cooler than being outside in mid-to upper 90 degree weather.

It was great visiting with old friends and meeting new ones.  At 6:45 I looked around for Dean.  As soon as he seen me, he headed my way.  I knew that meant he was ready to eat dinner.  Yep---that was it!  Hamburger patties and mac 'n cheese from a box was what's for dinner tonight?  We were so hungry it tasted delicious!  I told him we need to restock that was the last "quick" meal left.  I try to keep a few things like on hand for times like these.
We won't have to worry about evening meals for the rest of the rally.  There is a meal planned for the next three nights.

After doing the dishes it was getting close to 8.  We enjoyed some down time before heading to bed at 10.  Dean's playing golf tomorrow with Dave, Lin and Darrell.  He's looking forward to it.

I hope you've all had a wonderful day.

  1. Glad you're set up at the rally. Planning meals are tough enough but putting one together on short notice takes skill! haha I understand the quick meals.
Enjoy the time with friends.Oh and enjoy the heat - trust me when it is gone, brrrr.

    1. Yes it does. I'm anxious to see how my french toast bake is. It's in the fridge now, but soon will be in the oven. It cooled off yesterday afternoon a bit - a little cloud cover. Today is supposed to get into upper 80's - by 3/4pm, so that won't be too bad. Next is the rain. I fear we'll be driving back to Oswego in that. Not that we haven't done it many times.
