Monday, October 7, 2019 - Busy Day, Getting Things Done

Monday, October 7, 2019 - Busy Day, Getting Things Done

I went through my usual morning routine - plus.  Last night before I went to bed, I brought down two loads of clothes so I could start the washer first thing.  I got the first one started, poured my coffee, and set down to finish Sunday's post.  Once that was done I added a couple of things to my to do list for the day.

Every morning Dean and I discuss what our plans are for the day.  I thought he might play golf but he wanted to go back to the garage to do some things.  I intended to do laundry and make several phone calls today. I told him I wanted to go with him to the garage so I could get my car.  I have several things to do while we are here so I need my own wheels!

I came back to the RV to finish getting ready.  By now, one load was done so now it was time to dry them.  I did the morning dishes and put things away and before I knew it the dryer was finished and it was time for another load.

I had a number of phone calls to make.  I need to order my prescriptions for the next three months.  I had to leave a message.

Dean is ready to have the electric turned on at the garage since we plan to be here until the first part of January.  I called Evergy (when did it change from Westar?).  They advised it should be on in a few days.  He wants to have it turned on now that it's getting cooler.  He can't see inside too well with the garage doors closed.

In between phone calls, I was hanging up, washing and/or drying clothes.  Next on my list was to make my annual mammogram appointment.  I will see my doctor right before I'm scheduled for my mammogram and that will be done for another year!

I stripped the beds, and changed the sheets - adding one more load to the laundry pile!  It never ends, does it?  I also pulled the long sleeved shirts and sweatshirts from the storage area under our bed to be washed.

We are going to another RV campout next week.  Our Escapee group enjoys sitting outside after our evening meal, staying warm around the fire genies and visiting.  This year we will have at least three fire genies going since Dean now has one too.  Usually the men congregate together; with the women just opposite of the men, usually at someone's campsite.  Since this is our rally and not a casual campout, we stay at a park with a rally room available to us for the week.  The forecast shows cool weather with a chance of rain, so having a place to be inside will be nice, but having our sweatshirts ready to go is a must for the cool evenings without rain!  By the way, the difference between the campouts and the rally? - We hold our annual business meeting, election of officers, etc. at our rally.

I am meeting my good friend and former co-worker Carol for lunch today.  I will pick her up drive to Angelo's (east of Oswego), then go to her house to visit.  She has a beautiful sun room that we sit in and enjoy her backyard while we visit.  It's always great to catch up with her, how her kids are doing, her mom and sister, etc.  As usual we had a great visit, and all too soon I was dropping her back at City Hall.

Next stop, the grocery store.  Dean ate the leftover pizza for lunch today, because we were out of lunchmeat.  I picked up that along with a few other things before heading back to Bentley to continue the laundry and making phone calls.

I never heard back from the Cherokee Pharmacy, so I called a different number this time and was able to order them.  They will be ready for me to pick up in Vinita tomorrow.  Usually I would have them mailed to me, but today is my last dose, so my bad.... in not getting them ordered done sooner.

Next was to call the Escapees Mail Center.  I knew at least one item had been mailed there and I suspected others, so I called to be sure before activating the scanning process. I didn't want to pay that fee until I knew we had mail.  They told me we had several pieces of mail, so I paid for the service through the end of the year, and then will renew annually until we no longer need it.  They activated the scanning and by noon tomorrow I should have a scanned copy of each item from our mailbox delivered to my email address.  At that time I can have them send it to me, shred it or I have the option for them to open it and scan each page - which allows me to print it off for my records and then have them shred the original letter.  I imagine there will only be a few things that need to be sent to us which will save us in postage costs.

One last thing I worked on, was updating our password list for all of our online accounts.  I spent the rest of the afternoon working on it while planning our dinner.  I laid out a 3# package of frozen chicken tenderloins for Dean to grill later.  We'll use a few for this evenings meal, and I plan to make a pot pie with the remainder.

After Dean returned from the garage, we visited a bit.  I asked him what he had done today.  There was a large area on one wall where someone had built what looked like a place to hold books, maybe manuals?  He did not have a use for it, so he spent the day tearing it off the wall.  It will now be a place he can hang tools like rakes, shovels, etc.  He had something similar at our last house and it kept them out of the way, yet allowed him to easily access to them.  (I later learned as he tore it down he found a complete snake skin in one of the trays - it was almost 4 foot long.  Ewww!)

I planned to saute some vegetables, and cook rice to go with the chicken.  When I checked them several minutes later the water for the rice was not even close to boiling, and the vegetables were still cool, so I turned the gas up a bit.  When I checked it again in a few minutes I noticed there was hardly any flame under each pan.  I asked Dean about it and he was already at the gas tank outside because he was having the same problem trying to grill the chicken.  He got it fixed and since the chicken cooked pretty quick, I ended up fixing green beans in the microwave to go with the chicken and we ate a little bit of the leftover corn dip I made for our last rally meal in Durant.  Rather than let the chicken get cold, we just improvised a bit.  We'll do the rice and vegetables later.

Dean received a text from Matt (one of his boys), asking if we would have time to Skype this evening.  He will call later when they are ready.  We had just finished dinner when he sent a text that they would be calling soon.  Dean had setup my chromebook to use skype while I was having lunch with Carol, but when we tried to connect, it would not work.  So, back to the phone and using Facebook Messenger.  It works, it is just a small picture.  We had a great visit with Matt, Megan and the kids.  Isn't technology great?  It sure helps for the kids to see and talk to us in order to maintain a good relationship with them rather than only seeing them once a year.  Their youngest, Sam, said Papa for the first time and that made Dean happy.  Sarah was the star of the show though, with her facial expressions as she regaled us with story after story.  She's a character and likes being the center of attention.  We all laughed at some of her stories.  Josh the oldest was tired.  He is in Kindergarten this year.  Matt told us he has to ride the bus an hour each morning to school, and then another hour to go back to the babysitter's after school.  He was worn out and fell asleep during our phone visit.  Sometimes he likes to talk, and other times he'd rather Mom, Dad or Sarah tell us what's going on with him.  He did show us the books he got at the book fair.  He likes to read so that was a fun thing to share.

We had been talking for quite awhile when I heard a knock on the door.  It was Todd.  He wanted to let us know he may have our electric off tomorrow to work on the pedestal at our site.  I told him we'd be gone most of the morning so it would not be a problem for us.  We visited for quite awhile.  My phone rang so I ran back inside and just missed Misti, so I called her back.  We visited for awhile, and then I walked back outside to join Todd and Dean.

When we came in, we turned on Dancing with the Stars.  We were recording it, so we started it from the beginning.  By the time it was over, we were so tired.

What a busy, busy day!  I felt like two days passed in the course of one.   Sorry, no pictures.  I was too busy.
