Saturday, October 5, 2019 - Last Full Rally Day

Sunrise on our walk this morning

The temperatures dropped a little yesterday.  Even though it showed 91 on our outside thermometer it didn't feel as hot as it has been.  I had to turn the air conditioners up a little this morning and even more by evening.  I hope some of that cooler weather they already have in southeast Kansas is making it's way here.  My sister called me yesterday (Friday) afternoon.  It was nearly 15 degrees cooler in Oswego than it was here.

I woke up a little after 5 this morning.  I always think I'll just lay there awhile, but that rarely happens.  I wanted to get the blog from yesterday posted.  I was too tired to finish it last night.  I think I slept in my chair for nearly an hour after we returned from the clubhouse, and I didn't have any trouble falling asleep after we went to bed.

After making the coffee each morning, I have been doing a round of exercises.  Just thinking about them when I get up, I dread doing them.  I find that once I start I really kind of enjoy it.  It seems to loosen those stiff muscles and I just feel better throughout the day.

We walked slightly over a mile this morning.  The sunrise was very pretty.

After our walk, Dean and I walked to the clubhouse for coffee and pastries.  Well, Dean had both.  I just visited.  We met a nice young couple and I talking with them while we were there.

This morning Peggy, a very talented and crafty person, had another project for us to work on.  She made Santa sugar cookies for the group to decorate.  The cookies are embossed with a pattern which makes it easy to see where a color should go on the cookie.  I did not actually do any of the cookies but I watched.  They used food coloring, slightly watered down for the eyes, nose, and mouth.  For the hat she made a corn syrup wash, then dipped it in red sprinkles for the hat.  They used frosting for the white trim on the hat, Santa's eyebrows, his beard and the ball at the end of his hat.

Second Row - far right picture is Peggy explaining the process to us.
Top right is the final product.  They sure turned out cute!

When I left for Bentley, Dean was at Clarence and Barb's, sitting outside with several guys.  Their refrigerator quit working.  They've been trying to figure out what was causing it.  Jason, another Heartland owner, who works for an RV Repair Shop helped him locate the problem.  I know they were glad to find out what was going on and what was needed to fix it.

We walked back to our rig for lunch.  I know we'll have lots of food choices again this evening.  It's going to be a Mexican Fiesta.  The club is providing tacos with all of the fixings.  Everyone else will bring a dish.  I made corn dip.  For lunch I ate pretty light, only an apple, a stalk of celery and a little peanut butter.  I had a little peanut butter left over, so I tried it on my apple - and I really liked it.  Almost as good as a piece of cheddar cheese with an apple.  Dean had his turkey/cheese roll up in a tortilla, a little of the leftover mac and cheese from a couple days ago, and an apple.

Larry and Donna are here in their SOB (some other brand) motorhome.  When we attended our first Heartland rally here at Durant KOA in April of 2014 they were the Oklahoma Chapter Leaders.  They were so nice and welcoming to us.  I was talking with her, along with a few of the other ladies, about their new rig.  She invited us to stop by and look at it anytime.  So that's what we did this afternoon.  It was a beautiful rig and I loved their setup.  Often a motorhome will only have couches across from each other, or a couch with one chair, but they had room for two nice chairs and a couch on the opposite side.  Their dinette was a booth, but the way it was made she said they could sit six people around it.  Donna and I visited inside while Dean and Larry visited outdoors where Larry had been enjoying his outdoor TV.

Tonight before our meal we are taking a group picture.  Everyone is supposed to wear a Heartland rally shirt.  We were talking about that.  I mentioned to Donna I didn't bring one, but I'd try to blend in.  She had two with her and loaned me one, which was really nice of her.  (Update she told me to keep it since they have several extras at their home, as they were Chapter leaders at that time).

Oklahoma Chapter Fall Rally - Heartland Members From NM, TX, OK, and KS.

We walked back to our rig to rest.  Thirty minutes later we headed back to the clubhouse for our evening Mexican Fiesta.  Oh my goodness, the food!  Everything was so delicious, as usual.  I don't know who made the enchiladas, but they were amazing!  Everything I ate was wonderful, but another item I really enjoyed was a four layer dessert using lemon pudding.  I've always wanted to try this but wasn't sure how it would go over with my family.  I thought it was as good as the butterscotch version.  I may try it at a family dinner sometime.

After the meal, we had live entertainment.  One of the Heartland members plays in a band, "Second Chance Band."  They played mostly country.  Unfortunately, the acoustics of the building were not the best.  Even though Dean turned his hearing aides off entirely, it still bothered him.  We left after the first set.  It was very nice of them to offer this for our group.  (This morning we learned they turned the sound down quite a bit after that and it was much better.)

Barbara and Clarence caught me taking pictures and posed!  Good picture you two!

We decided to take a walk once we returned to Bentley, and I'm so glad we did.  Here are a few pictures:

We caught this beautiful glow after the sunset.

Top picture clouds with lightening
Bottom before the lightening.

Dean loves these poles.  The lights go up in sync on one side and then come down on the other.  It is pretty neat to see.

It was another fun day with this wonderful group of people, and I hope yours was equally good.
