October 6, 2019 - Saying Our Goodbyes, Rainy Days

October 6, 2019 - Saying Our Goodbyes, Rainy Days

It was a little after 5 when I woke this morning.  I headed downstairs to start the coffeepot, did my morning exercises, poured my first cup of coffee, then set down to work on the post from yesterday.  These late night activities make me too tired to finish them in the evening.  Lol!

I had forgotten to download my pictures so it took awhile to get them cropped, collages made, etc.  I didn't have time to proof it, so I'll do that once we are on the road.

A little before 7, we took our walk around the park.  It is just over a mile, which is perfect while we are here.  I hope we can step it up to 2 miles once we are in Oswego this coming week when we walk at the city park.

This is one of the RV's parked behind us.  I happened to catch the flag as the wind caught it.

The clouds are coming in and it made a beautiful sunrise photo.

After we returned, we had our morning shake, then Dean headed to the clubhouse for coffee and a pastry.  While he was gone I showered.  Forty-five minutes later I headed there as well.  I no more than arrived and he was ready to go.  I visited with a few people before I walked back with him.  Peggy, Barbara and Edwina were in the kitchen with the Santa cookies.  Peggy gave me one to take home.  I gave them each a hug as well as a few others out in the meeting room before we headed back.  Dean emptied the tanks while I got things put away inside.  Once we were done, we made our last rounds here in the campground to say goodbye to a few others, and even walked back to the clubhouse to catch a few who had left their rigs in the meantime.  With a few last hugs, we hopped in the truck and pulled out of the RV Park at 10:47am - almost 15 minutes before the time we hoped to be on the road.

As we went through McAlister, OK I took another picture of the cattle drive sculpture.  We were going in the right direction to get a better look at it heading south.

Sorry, about our dirty window.  I failed to wash them....I talked too long and Dean said we had to go.
I pulled out my chromebook so I could proof yesterday's post, make a few changes and added the rest of the pictures.

We were just south of Oktaha, OK (about 125 miles from Durant) when the rain started, just as I decided it was time to stop for a potty break.  The rain let up just as we pulled into Muskogee.  We found a service station big enough for us to pull in and park out of the way.  Fortunately it was only sprinkling, but we quickly realized how much the temperature had dropped.  Neither of us even had a jacket in the truck, and Dean was wearing shorts.  Brrrrr!  I grabbed my raincoat as I headed back to the truck.

Soon we were back on the road.  The rain was pretty heavy off and on, and it continued almost all the way to the Oklahoma line.  The ditches and streams were running full all the way to Vinita and a little beyond.

As we approached Vinita we met a Sandpiper and Durango RV's following each other.  We both laughed.  They looked almost identical to the two that were in front of us when we left the Choctaw RV Park.  We remembered them from the conversation we had about them at the time. When the first one pulled out, the second followed without even slowing down at the stop sign.

Vinita has some major road construction on Highway 59 south of the four way stop.  What a muddy mess it is.

What a mess!

Water standing all along the road construction.

Moving on through Vinita, the rain continued for quite awhile but begin to let up as we neared the state line.  Only 10 miles to go.

Rainy Days!
Oswego and Hillside RV Park straight ahead - about two miles to go, and the rain is gone - for now!

We pulled into the site we left from earlier this week.  We will be here until Sunday morning.

It didn't take us long to get set up as cold as it was outside, compared to the mid-90 temperatures we experienced while in Durant.  See below - 59 outside at 5:54pm.  While 71 felt pretty nice when the air conditioner was running in those 90 temps, now it felt pretty cool in the RV.  The fireplace came on to warm us up a bit.  Here we now sit in jeans/sweats and I'm wearing a sweater.  How the weather can change in just 250 miles!  Honestly, I am glad for a little cooler temperatures but wasn't expecting them to drop quite that fast.  Hopefully, it's the rain keeping it cooler than normal and that will adjust soon.

We ordered a sausage pizza from Pizza Hut for dinner.

Now we are settled in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the Indianapolis Colts.   Go Chiefs!  Actually, Dean will watch it, I'll look up now and then to see what happened when it sounds exciting, but mostly I'll read and respond to emails.

What a great time we had at the rally, but it's always good to be back in our hometown for a few days.

Thanks to all who comment.  I love hearing from you.

  1. You did well to get out a few minutes ahead of schedule. Usually the goodbyes put you behind!
I would be so sad leaving those 90's for the 50's in temps. Brrr. That's what we've had here and now this week it will be nicer, mid 60's.
Enjoy your stay, hope you get those longer walks in although getting out each day even for a mile is a bonus!

    1. Yes, especially with chatty cathy me! That's what Dean would tell you. LOL!
It's a nice 69 here at 11:30. As long as its over night I don't mind the cooler temps but I like it to be at least 60-70 during the day.
Well, we failed immediately - no walking today....at least not yet.

  2. A drastic change in temps, but at least not real cold.
    Enjoy your time there.
