It was about 5:20 when I first looked at the clock. I laid there for a few minutes before getting up. After starting the coffeepot, and the washing machine, I did my morning exercises. One of the first things I did was to look outside, did it rain last night? It doesn't look like it. Dean told me he thought he heard a few drops last night. If it did, I'd say it didn't last too long.
We walked around 6:30 - it was warming up but fortunately it was overcast so it wasn't too bad. This morning a couple of cars drove through, one stopped to take pictures in the field east of the park, but not sure what it could have been. We also met a walker on the last leg of our walk. It was Rebekah a sister to a friend of mine, and she lives across the street from my friend Carol. I just met her two weeks ago at church when her sister came back to visit. We had a nice visit and I commented on how nice her new room looked. It was just added this week.
As we walked today I took several pictures of the park to share with you. Many of you who follow are familiar with our park, but for those who are not - it is Oswego's shining star. Of all things I just realized I forgot to take a picture of the entrance sign they put up just a few years ago. I'll try to get one later today and include it.
After breakfast and straightening up, I wanted to get these pictures posted.

Sun trying to pop through the clouds this morning - it finally did a little later.

WELCOME

At the far west end of the park. I love this large tree.

Just a random road in the park, but I love how it meanders through the trees, rather than just straight lines all of the time.

The original bath house that is still used today.

The pool itself.

This is a favorite spot as it brings back many memories from High School. Kids were often found sitting here, carving their names into the rock. You can still see a few from years before.

A beautiful area with small trees, a little walkway through it and a bench to rest on.

A very interesting story of how the park came to be.
The fencing in the above picture also shows the concrete (wooden look similar to what was originally in the park many years ago) railing that was purchased as another fund raising event by the Foundation.
The picture below shows a portion of the county bridge crossing the Neosho River, which can be seen from the overlook.

While I posted this yesterday - it shows the bridge I mentioned above.
Even though this one is transposed on the banner, but you can tell what it is.
The last one, which I failed to take a picture of is the Welcome Sign into Oswego, Kansas. I'll add that later today after I get out to do a few errands.
I worked most of the morning on preparing information to send to our Class of 1974 classmates for our upcoming reunion in October. It is now posted to Facebook, and now I just need to mail a copy to those not on Facebook. Fortunately, that is only about 8-10 people. I only use Google now, so I've had a hard time trying to figure out how to print the labels - but I'll write them out if I have to. For such a few number I think that's what I'll do.
Cindy called and asked me to take her to pick up their truck. They had to have two tires repaired. She wanted to know if we wanted to play cards this evening. I told her that would be fine but I already had supper planned so it would be after dinner. She wanted to know what I was making. I'm going to make chicken alfredo, but instead of using fettuccine, I was thinking of using vegetables. She had some broccoli and cauliflower that needed to be used and said I could have them, so that's what I'm going to do. I think it sounds good, so we'll see. Update: I changed my mind and we grilled the chicken tenders, and had saute'd veggies with some sliced tomatoes. The tomatoes were actually very good considering they were hot house.
Dean returned from golf around noon. He ate the last of the chicken pot pie I bought yesterday, that I fixed for dinner last night. I drank a slimfast chocolate mocha drink for my lunch. I weighed this morning and I am only 10# from my goal. Between walking, exercise and sticking to my new food choices, I'm hoping to reach that goal by the end of August, if not before. I've been doing some research on meal replacement drinks - and have found a few I might try out. Advocare has some great flavors and a new one that sounded promising was 18Shake. They are both $3+ for each one. Compared to fixing a meal - it's not a bad trade off. Dean is interested in trying it to.
I ordered a couple of items about 6 weeks ago, and received a notice about 30 minutes ago that it has been delivered to our box at UPS, so we are headed to Pittsburg to pick it up. Update on that: What I ordered was not as advertised, so I will be submitting a letter to the company asking they pay the shipment to return it - rather than me paying it. We'll see how that plays out.
We made a quick stop at Walmart so I could pick up a few spices I did not have in my pantry to make homemade seasoning salt. There was one item I could not find, dry lemon zest. I used the salt on the vegetables and the chicken and I thought it was good, but I don't think I used enough. I meant to get a salt shaker to put it in but forgot, so I just sprinkled some on with my fingers. We plan to grill salmon tomorrow evening. I will use a shaker and hopefully get a little more flavor.
After dinner, we went to Cindy & Elmer's to play cards. We played three games of pitch and the guys absolutely slaughtered us. We've won the last two times so we're still a bit ahead of them. Then we played spades. It's been a long time since we played and we enjoyed it too. We laugh so hard sometimes - it's good for the soul! Cindy ruined my diet tonight and had chocolate cake with chocolate icing and ice cream. I took a smaller piece though....does that count?
We returned home a little before 11:00pm. After this quick update I've decided I'm too tired to proofread this tonight. See you tomorrow!
