Thursday, March 15, 2018 - Happy 60th Birthday to my Sister Cindy; Travel Day to Rockport TX; Meeting Friends at Lagoons RV Resort: Tour of Rockport and Dinner; More Laundry
We were up early this morning so we would have plenty of time to pack things up and shower before we leave here. Our goal is to pull out as close to 8:30 am as possible. We didn't quite make it - leaving at 8:47, but our travel time went well as we pulled into Lagoons RV Resort before 1:00 p.m.
Before I get too far I want to wish my sister Cindy a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! She turned the big 6-0 today! I hope her day is extra special like she is. We are not quite 18 months a part in age. I don't know what I would do without her or my other two sisters. I'm so blessed. I love you Cindy and look forward to some time together when we get back to Oswego. See you soon!
Our drive to Rockport was an easy drive. We had to stop at a checkpoint along the way where they asked us if we were US citizens and when Dean said yes, they sent us right on through. We stopped for a lunch at an Arby's and ate our sandwich on the road.
As we neared Corpus Christi I took several pictures of all the oil refinery equipment that seemed to be in every direction,
as well as this big bridge in the bay area.
We passed by the USS Lexington Air Craft Carrier on display in Corpus Christi.
As we drew closer to Rockport we could see where the hurricane winds had bent and twisted the trees in the area.
Then we noticed these large piles of debris that had been hauled from the community out along the road. They are now loading the debris to remove it from the area altogether.
It wasn't too much further before we were pulling into Lagoons RV Resort.
Our friends Frank and Joyce are staying here. The park personnel knew they were our friends and parked us almost across the street from them which was really nice. Since we were only staying one night I only set up a few items in the living area. Joyce walked over and I invited her in to visit. She had not been in our rig before and commented on how much space there is. It is the perfect living space for us and it works quite well.
Once Dean had everything unhooked and set up, we walked over to Frank and Joyce's to sit outside for awhile. They asked us if we'd like to take a tour of the area and we were game for that. Rockport was hit by Hurricane Harvey in August of 2017 along with other coastal cities. Many places had been repaired but many were still in stages of repair and of course there were a few places that had not been touched.
We drove down by the harbor where all of the boats (shrimp and oyster) dock to unload their catch for the day. While there I spied this boat and I couldn't pass it by without taking a picture. The boat named "Hard Times" reminded me of Richard Johnson from Oswego who was fondly known by everyone in town as Hard Times. I loved that guy and it just brought so many wonderful memories of him to mind. How I loved seeing him come in each month to pay his utility bill, always with a smile on his face and a story to tell.
The pictures below are of a protected nesting area for migratory birds. We watched the birds fly in and land in the tops of the trees.

| This guy was enjoying watching the pelicans and birds. There were some people on the pier throwing food out to them. |
We stopped at Goose Island and took pictures of "The Big Tree". This entire area was just really awesome. These trees are beautiful but kind of haunting all at the same time.

We stopped at Charlotte Plummer's for dinner. Our meals were all quite good. Dean had a shrimp dinner with veggies and baked potato, I chose Catfish with the same sides. Joyce and Frank shared a Seafood Platter, and we all had salad from the wonderful salad bar along with a chicken tortilla soup. I was going to order bread pudding to go, but they brought our ticket before asking us if we'd like to have dessert. I took that as a sign I didn't really need it!
Following dinner, we returned to the RV resort where we visited for awhilea before returning to our rigs. I washed another load of clothes this evening - this time 11 shirts. After washing them I dried them for about 20 minutes, took them out and hung them up. They were more than half dry in that time and dried nicely overnight with no wrinkles.
Today was a great day and we enjoyed the time spent with our friends, and their hospitality in showing us around Rockport and the area. We'd love to come back here and spend some more time in order to see more of the area and along the gulf.
Thanks for following along.
