Friday, March 23, 2018 - Breakfast at Cari's; Lunch Laughs; Home Depot; Household Chores; SKP Newsletter.
Friday has been Dean's day to eat breakfast at the local cafe in Oswego for many years.  He wanted to eat breakfast somewhere this morning.  He must be missing Circle L.  We had looked at a couple of restaurant chains that serve breakfast that we like, but then we saw Cari's Cafe in nearby Granbury.  When I checked Trip Advisor, it had rave reviews.  We like supporting local businesses so we decided to give it a try.  Both of our meals were very good, and if we are ever back in this area we would definitely go back.  They had a huge breakfast menu.  Dean chose a scramble of eggs, sausage and home fries with biscuits and gravy.  I ordered 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, hash browns with 2 pumpkin pancakes.  Yummy!  Thankfully, Dean was still hungry and ate one of my pancakes.  I was too full to finish them.

Cari's Cafe - Granbury, TX

We both had chores we wanted to do this morning.  I wanted to clean Bentley and Dean was going to clean the filters on both air conditioners, and clean and oil the fantastic fan.  The fan doesn't want to open as well as it used to and the screen is starting to look pretty bad.  In the middle of our work we stopped long enough to have lunch.

We had two leftover hot dogs, but when I went to get the hot dog buns out there was only one bun left.  I knew we had used a bun with each hot dog we had ate, so there had to be two buns somewhere.  I searched through the cabinets and the refrigerator and couldn't find it.  Dean said he'd just eat his on a piece of bread.  He went to put the hot dogs in the microwave to heat them up, and said what's this in the microwave.  Yes - there was a hot dog bun wrapped up in a paper towel - hard as a rock.  I had warmed three buns up when we had them a day or so ago.  He wanted two, but didn't want to fix them both at the same time, so I stuck the bun back in the microwave so it would stay warm, until he ate the second one.  He either didn't know it or remember it was there.  Instead of getting the warm one out of the microwave, he used one from the package - leaving only one bun left.  We had a good laugh over that missing bun!

For extra storage space, we put a few extra groceries in the cabinets over the couch.  The other day a couple of items fell out while we were traveling, so Dean wanted to put a couple of boards up to provide more of a lip on the shelving.  We have also started putting tie wraps around the knobs.  We've never had a problem until the other day, but we are trying to prevent this problem for ever happening again.  I think between the tie wraps and the boards it should work well.

Bentley received a good cleaning so he's looking a little spiffier and feeling fine about himself tonight.

After dinner, I set down and finished up the newsletter for our Escapees Chapter.  Two of our members do not have emails so I print the newsletter and mail it to them.  Well, guess what, our printer decided it was tired and it would not cooperate.  I finally got two copies to print --they aren't perfect but you can read them.  It's been giving us fits (jamming, causing the printing nozzles to get gummed up, then we have to clean the nozzles, wasting ink) for awhile so we weren't real surprised.  When we get to Wichita, we'll be printer shopping.  We wanted to replace this printer in the future, as it is quite large.  I guess now is the future.  The printers we have been looking at cost less than buying new ink cartridges for the one we have so that's a plus.  I can only hope the new ink cartridges are not quite as high.

Well, it's been a good day, we feel good about accomplishing our to-do list.  We will leave here tomorrow morning headed to "The Point Campground" at Chickasaw National Recreation Area near Davis, OK.  Dean was reading information about the park.  Apparently there is little or no cell phone signal there, so if you do not hear anything from us for the next couple of days don't worry.  I'm sure we'll head into town at least once while we are there - when we do I'll post something to Bentley's Facebook page.

Thanks again to all of you who follow along on our journey.  If you care to comment, we enjoy hearing from you.

  1. Travel safe tomorrow. Good luck with the printer search! Bill wants to get a smaller one too.

    1. Thank you. As you know we made it. Traveling, sightseeing and blogging - I love them all, but sometimes there's just not enough time in the day. Lol!
At least printers are cheap and still do everything we need for a fraction of what we paid for this one many years ago. We definitely got lots of use out of it.

  2. Printer shopping - how fun! I'm hooked on laser printers because ink jets suck. Hate dealing with dried up ink. But then again I do a lot of printing for work. Next printer will not have a fax that goes with it, nor a scanner for that matter. I've got a small portable scanner and can scan stuff into emails rather than faxing.

Really like having wireless printing also. Not even sure if you can buy a printer that is not wireless anymore or not. Of course there is an option even with a wireless to hook it up through a USB plug so it's the best of both worlds. Always had good luck with the Brother brand as they seem to keep their software up to date and the reliability of the printers have been good. Toner and the extra cartridge that holds the used toner can be expensive to replace. But so can a lot of ink jet cartridges over time.

Figure if I need something printed in color I'll find an Office Max. I've got an extra color ink jet. Wish you guys were closer so I could give it to you.

  3. We won't have fax either but probably will get a scanner as I have needed it since we've been on the road to send things in for insurance purposes. Printers are so cheap now in comparison to what we paid for this one we have. I just want something small with 8x10 paper only. Wireless is only way to go today, even though we have the USB plug as I can print from my phone and that is wonderful. I don't know if I've ever used Brother - usually Canon or HP. That's what we had at work and they always seemed to hold up well, so that's what I leaned toward but I'm open to any brand as long as it does what I need and the price is good. I will also be looking at price of ink replacement. I don't even care about having color printing. I always use grayscale for my own printing. I only use color for the Escapees newsletter and I'm not going to be doing that for much longer.
