Saturday, March 10, 2018 - Park Garage Sale; Errands; Laundry; Learning Hand, Knee & Foot

Saturday, March 10, 2018 - Park Garage Sale; Errands; Laundry; Learning Hand, Knee & Foot

Our park held a park wide garage sale this morning from 8-12.  After our coffee, we got dressed and walked up to see if there were any bargains we couldn't pass up.  We walked away without purchasing anything except 2 doughnuts and 2 pieces of wonderful banana bread for $2.

Today is going to be a very warm day - it is supposed to be over 90.

We didn't want to leave the park until the sale was over due to the congestion at the front gate, so we piddled around here until after lunch.  I went through the different storage locations within the rig, moving things I wanted to leave at home into one area so they would be easy to remove once we return to Kansas.  We've been in the rig full-time since July of 2017.  I've found there are several things we have with us that have not been used once and a few that have only been used once.  Those things will either go to the storage shed or be given away.

Just beyond this is the Mexican border to Reynoso.  The Pulga was just a few blocks before the border crossing.

After lunch, we drove to Hidalgo, a small community near the Mexican border.  There are a number of ropa (clothing) places in this area along with pulgas (flea markets).  I've been wanting to purchase an air fryer after hearing so many great things about them.  They tell me this is the best place to go.  I purchased a Farberware Air Fryer for $20.  You remember I mentioned it was supposed to reach 90 today - it felt much, much warmer here.  This flea market is huge and it would have been so much fun to have visited before it got so hot.  But I'm sure it will be here next year and we'll have something new to do then.  Our friends we met in the park (Hoot and Helen) from Kansas mentioned this to us, but until the discussion about appliances came up when I attended the class on Instapots here in the park I had forgotten about it.  If anyone is wanting any type of small appliance this is the place to look.  You cannot even imagine how much stuff is in this place.  I also noticed one booth had My Pillows.  I asked the price and they were $15.  Unfortunately, they did not have the size/fill level that I wanted, or I would have purchased one.  These are items that were sold by various stores and were returned for one reason or another.  They are all in their original packaging and in the instance of the Air Fryer, they took it out, turned it on to be sure it worked and I was satisfied with the product before paying.  This is just one section of this very large flea market.  They sell all types of things here and there must be at least 100+ booths.  Many of them had already closed or were packing up when we arrived and I'm sure that was mostly due to the heat and their location to the sun.

This is just one shelf, of I have no idea how many, with small appliances for sale.

We made a quick stop at Walmart before returning to Bentley.  I needed to mail some letters so I walked to the office and also picked up a roll of quarters to do some laundry later.  It's just miserable to try and do it when it's this hot.  While the laundry area is air conditioned it doesn't take long to really warm up with the washers and dryers running so I prefer to wait until it begins to cool down some.

Dean drained our hot water tank and refilled it and we discovered that we had pretty low water pressure.  Our friend Nancy from next door seen him outside and asked if we had water, so apparently it is a problem in the area.  Before long it was back on.  About 5:00 I had Dean take me to the laundry and drop me off.  My phone had died and I left it on the charger at the rig.  I took my Kindle and told him I would message him when I was done.  Guess what?  I couldn't connect to the Internet so I could not message him.  Great planning, huh?  I hope he eventually misses me and comes to get me.  Lol!

A lady in our park, Nancy, came in about 6 as I was starting to dry the clothes.  She and several other ladies were going to play a card game called Hand, Knee and Foot.  I learned Hand and Foot from our Escapee friends and wanted to learn this version.  She invited me to come in and watch them, so as soon as my clothes were in the dryer I went in to check it out.  It's very similar but there are a few different twists.  I plan to go up to either play or watch (depending if they need an extra player or not) for a full game before we leave.  I'd like to make notes on the things that are different from the Hand and Foot we play in case any of our Escapees group is interested in learning this version.

Around 7:00 Dean showed up to check on me.  The clothes were still drying.  Fortunately the white clothes were entirely dry and I was able to fold them before we left but I had to take the towels home damp.  They will hang overnight in the shower with the dehumidifier running so they will finish drying.  This is the last time I will be washing/drying clothes here at the park's laundry.  Believe me, I am not in the least bit sad about that!

After a sandwich for dinner, Dean watched TV and I enjoyed reading my blogs.  I am behind.  One thing I look forward to doing is getting a new pair of glasses.  It's difficult to read for very long without my eyes getting blurry.  I do better if I don't wear my glasses at all, but after an hour or so they begin to blur again.  I have an appointment the week we return, so I'll have some new glasses in a less than six weeks. That makes me smile!

So, another day here in South Texas.  It was a good one even though we didn't do anything too exciting.  We are on our final countdown to begin our trek home.  3 more days here in the park.  Tomorrow we spring forward.
