Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - Class on Covering Hangars; Cold Windy Weather; Lunch at Ranch Burgers; Ride in the Country; Lots of Rain

Since we need to be at Dennis and Pam's park before 9 this morning for the class I am taking, we did not walk or ride today.  Dean checked to see how warm it was outside, it was quite warm and very muggy.  In fact, when I checked, the humidity level was 77% in Bentley, so I turned the dehumidifier on before we left.

I dropped Dean off at Dennis and Pam's lot.  Pam joined me in the truck and we drove to the park's activity center.  Pam is teaching a class on how to cover hangars with yarn.  We carried our things in and were getting set up when several women started coming in to join us. I think I found a craft that was made for me, so you know it must be easy! It takes 24 yards of yarn to cover a hangar.  So the first step was to measure out 2 lengths of yarn, each of them 12 yards.  You fold each of the 12 yard lengths in half.  You leave the loop (middle of each length) just outside of your fingers as you wrap the remaining yarn around three fingers.  Place a small rubber band around the yarn, so that you can pull the loop out as you work on covering the hangar.  You actually use two hangars and to keep them together, you work a piece of air tubing used in fish aquariums or oxygen tubing to go over the top part of the hangar.  The next step is begin covering the bottom part of the tubing and work around the hangar.  I had only purchased one color of yarn.  As I was watching the lady next to me, who also only had one color, I realized it's easier if you have two colors to make sure you stay in sync with making loops.  One of the ladies offered to trade one part of my yarn for hers, so we did.

I remember we had several of these hangars when I was growing up.  I'm not sure who made them, it could have been my mom, or Grandma Long.  Both of them enjoyed sewing and crafts.  They are really nice for keeping things on the hangar, especially light weight, silky type items that have a tendency to slide right off a hangar.

The ladies working, with Pam overseeing their work.

The blue yarn is mine.  I made both of my initial 12 yard lengths with the blue yarn. One of the ladies and I exchanged one of ours with each other to have a two color cover.  Note the light purple to the left.  That is what I traded for.

Here are my finished hangars.  One is blue and yellow and the other is blue and the light purple you see in the photo above.
About an hour into working on the hangars someone came in the activity center and told us they hoped we had jackets because the weather had changed and it was very cold, and it was raining.

We finished up around 11:30-12:00.  When we stepped outside it certainly was cold.  I only brought a light jacket, but Dean had a hooded sweatshirt in the back, so I quickly put it on.  What's the deal with supposed warm weathers in southern Texas, turning to cold and wet!  On the other hand our weather is still better than it is at home.  I've heard this is the worse winter in South Texas in many, many years.

Tomorrow the residents here in their park are having garage sales.  Some had their stuff out already and others were still gathering things to set out for tomorrow.  We drove back to Dennis and Pam's rig and there were piles of these palm tree bark pieces laying all over the road and their driveway.  The wind was blowing pretty good and they were dropping all over the park - but there was an abundance in Dennis and Pam's driveway/road.

If you hold this up to you - it looks like a woman's bathing suit top.  Kind of funny!
Pam and I went in and we visited for awhile before heading out to lunch at Ranch Burgers - not too far away.  Wow - they sure know how to make good burgers down here in the Valley,.  How do you manage to lose weight?  At least I am not gaining!

Selfie I took of us.

Our waiter noticed me taking the above selfie, and asked if we would like for him to take our picture. Yes, thank you!

and another one
Dennis and Pam told us if we wear your RV group badge to many of the restaurants, and other venues here in the Valley you will often receive discounts.  At Ranch Burgers you get a free half order of wonderful, homemade french fries.  I didn't realize the special (what I ordered) came with french fries and a drink.  Unfortunately, I ordered water and I could have had tea.  We do not typically order something to drink when we have dinner out due to the high cost at so many places, but I like free!  Lol!
My burger!  It has two small cheese enchiladas on it.

I uncovered it so you could see the enchiladas.

Shot looking back over the restaurant before we left.  The couple in the lower right hand side are the ones we bought my bicycle from.

I think everyone really enjoyed their meal.  Once we were finished, the waiter brought our bill.  When Dean handed me the ticket and I promptly stuck it in my purse.  I'm being very careful to ensure we log all of our expenses in our spreadsheet so I keep all of the receipts until I get them entered in the computer.  Once I turned back to the table from my purse, he asked me if we were going to pay for it first.  Oh---I didn't realize he had not paid yet!  He usually pays and then gives me the receipt.  Don't change things up on me!!  Lol!

We returned to Dennis and Pam's to drop them off and then we headed back to Bentley.  It was too cold to be out so we just huddled up inside.  Dean watched TV, and I worked on the blog.  When I woke up this morning my neck was hurting some and it gradually got worse as the day went by.  Ugh!  Hopefully, it will feel better in the morning.

About 5 or so, we both were ready to get out for a bit after sitting inside most of the afternoon.  We just took off driving and enjoyed seeing some of the countryside before it got to dark.  An hour or so after we returned, it started to rain and just poured.  As much rain as they've had recently flowers and bushes should really do well.

According to the weather, it looks like the colder temperatures are going to stay around for awhile, but Saturday the temps are supposed to be back in the 80's, before dipping 10-20 degrees again for a few days.  Weather yo-yo!

Well, this post brings me up to date with the blog.  We have more planned for today, so check back.
