Sunday, February 11, 2018 - Bike Ride in Park; Church; Meet up with New Friends; Happy Birthday to 2 Special People

I was up early in order to finish the blog post from yesterday, while I enjoyed my first cup of coffee.  Oh, that first cup of coffee each morning is so good!

After Dean was up awhile, we decided we should ride our bikes this morning.  It was pretty nice out, with decent temperatures this morning.  It is supposed to turn cooler later today, be in the 40's Monday morning and the forecast is calling for rain on Tuesday; so we wanted to take advantage of today's weather.

We are still getting used to our bicycles and trying to get them adjusted to fit us.  We stopped once and Dean raised both of our seats and while it helped quite a bit, I think we still need to raise them some more.  We saw our friends Hoot & Helen, and they gave us a couple of tips.  We're thankful to have met someone who knows quite a bit about bicycling and is willing to share their knowledge.  Maybe it will help us if we adjust them and then make a lap or two around our park to see if more adjustments are needed before we go back to the state park.

Today we bicycled 4 miles.  My knees were burning pretty good, but that's what I need - something to burn off the excess around my knees, thighs and back end.

I had taken one of our "cards" with us to give to Hoot & Helen, but didn't think to give it to them when we talked, so I stuck one in the door of their car when we left to head home.

Once we returned home, we ate breakfast, had our showers and got ready for church.  We let Gary (the church bus driver) know we would be driving ourselves today since we need to stop at Walmart afterwards for a few things.

After church, we headed to Walmart, which is just down the road from the church, to get a few groceries.  Dean was going to look for something in another part of the store, so before we split up we checked our phones to be sure the sound was turned up so we could call each other if needed.  I noticed I had a text message from Helen, wanting to know if we'd like to go to Old McAllen with them about 1:30.  It was about 12:30 then and I thought we could get our shopping done and back close to that time.  Once we were home and had things put away I let them know we were ready.

We had such a nice time with them.  Hoot drove us by a park near the dam we saw on the riverboat tour last week, before heading to Old McAllen.  There were so many stores here full of all kinds of merchandise.  Shoes, Makeup, Jewelry, Perfume, Dresses, Clothing, Blankets, Trinkets, Etc,  We enjoyed going in and out of a half dozen or more stores.  I bought 3 pairs of biking shorts for $10, and a present for someone - who's name I can't mention, lest they find out before they receive it!  There was so much stuff to look at.  I think a return visit will occur soon.  We sure had a great time.

Back home we rested for a bit before I warmed up some of the leftover white chicken chili and cornbread I made.  It really hit the spot!  I started getting tired after eating, so I got up to call my step-dad.  Today is his birthday....80 years old!  We are blessed to have him here with us.  I had a nice visit with him and Verna before hanging up.

Today is also my daughter-in-law's birthday.  Jen is married to my son Marc.  We are blessed to have her in our family. I sent her a text message earlier to wish her a happy birthday.  They were going to be staying in today due to the icy weather and slick roads back home.  Happy birthday Jen!

  1. Isn't Old McAllen a hoot. I always find the greatest buys. If you need anything for Mari Gras, that is the place to buy it.

    1. It is. I've got a mental list going for things to buy when we return. I think we are going to stop again today if it doesn't rain us out.
