Monday, February 5, 2018 - Morning Walk, Javelina Sighting; Mission Chamber of Commerce; Bicycle for Dean; Bicycle Ride; Movie Date

We enjoyed our morning walk even though it was a little damp due to the fog, but it did not stop us from getting in 3.7 miles, the longest distance we've managed to do.  We've been walking various sections of the park and today we tried a new one.  As we were coming around a corner I saw a javelina walking across the road in front of us.  I tried to get a picture but I didn't make it in time.  As we reached the area where it crossed I noticed there was a watering hole where he came from.  We'll need to try and walk this more often and maybe we'll see another one.
A little foggy this morning.
The shot I took that just missed the javelina.

Where the javelina was probably at before crossing the road.

Birding Station.  Feeders are located here to draw birds in for viewing.

A lone palm tree in the middle of a forest.

Once back home, we ate breakfast and changed from our walking clothes.  We are making a trip to the Mission Chamber of Commerce this morning.  We are searching for other things to do here in the area.  Once there a very nice lady was very helpful assisting us in selecting information.  I was most interested in other State Parks we could visit while in the area.  Since we purchased the State Park Pass we'd like to make use of it as much as possible while we are here.  By the way, today was our 6th visit to Bentsen State Park.  One more visit, and the park pass has paid for itself.  We have really enjoyed our walks in the park and its so convenient to our park.

While we were in our RV park office several days ago we noticed someone had posted an advertisement of  bicycles for sale, stating they had a good selection.  We decided to give "Neal" a call and check them out.  We met him shortly before noon.  He had several to choose from, and after Dean tried out two or three, he settled on this one.  He wants to purchase a new seat, same as me, but otherwise it should work well.

We rode a couple of laps around our RV park when we returned. We'll give them a workout tomorrow at the State Park.  Once inside Bentley, I did a little research to find a movie theater for this afternoon/evening.  I discovered the movie theater in McAllen offers Senior Night on Monday's. Each ticket is $1.68 with tax.  Dean has been wanting to see Daddy's Home 2, and it is showing at 4:30.  We had the chance for a little downtime before making the 20 minute drive.  When we arrive, we were surprised at how full their parking lots were.  There was parking in front and a large parking lot behind the building, where we had to park almost at the back of the lot.  We arrived a little early so we spent a little time checking our phones for email and Facebook.  Shortly before 4:30, we found our seats and Dean went to get us some popcorn and a coke.  The movie was hilarious.  While I am not a big Will Ferrell fan, I thought he fit the part well.  We laughed out loud so many times.  Dean loves going to the movies, so I hope this is something we can continue doing.

I wanted to touch on my recent post about getting the blog updated.  Part of the problem, besides being on the go so much, is the lack of a good internet connection here.  While Val's has internet available in the park and at several locations, the best time to get a really good connection is first thing in the morning.  That works great for me unless I get behind - like now.  I started working on this around 8:00 this evening (2/7) and it is now 9:56 (updated as I'm finishing the post).  It is difficult to get pictures downloaded and I keep getting messages that an error occurred while trying to save or publish the post.  I've never lost any information, so I think this error is just due to the very slow connection due to the number of users on the system.  At 4:00-6:00 in the morning it's lightening speed in comparison to using it in the evenings.  Occasionally I'll get a decent signal during the day, if we are here.  However, that is usually when we are out doing the things I write about.

We have a Verizon hotspot with our phone, but the Verizon signal isn't very strong here either.  We will definitely keep that in mind for next year if we decide to return.  We have talked about purchasing a booster that would increase the cell phone signal, and that might become a priority.  Having a good connection is pretty important to us.

Thanks to everyone that follows along, and to everyone who takes the time to comment.  I enjoy hearing from you.
