Thursday, February 15, 2018 - Bike Ride; Errands; Lunch at Palenque Grill; Back Home and To-Do's

Thursday, February 15, 2018 - Bike Ride; Errands; Lunch at Palenque Grill; To-Do's

It was still pretty overcast this morning but it was much warmer, so a little after 7:00 we loaded up the bikes and headed to Bentsen Park.  I had my windbreaker on for a short while and had to shed it.  It's going to be much warmer today and for that we are thankful.  We rode 4 miles today and we saw another javelina, but we made too much noise and he ran off before I could get a picture.

The wind was really blowing the flags around this morning as we headed to Bentsen Park to ride our bicycles.

There was quite a wind this morning while we were in the park and we were against it half of the ride - we got a little more of a workout today than normal, and was thankful when we were going with the wind to get a little break.  We want to get helmets and talked to Hoot and Helen about them for a minute when they caught up with us (on at least their 2nd time around).  They gave us a couple of tips, so we'll begin the search for those.

Loading the bicycles back in the truck after our 4 mile ride.

We had breakfast and then loaded up to run a few errands.  Dean wanted to visit an RV Service Center to ask questions about the combo washer/dryer unit, if they will install it, etc.  They will order it, but will not install it, however they gave us the name of a mobile RV Repair company that will.  Their price for the same unit is $300 more than purchasing it from Amazon.  We haven't made a decision on this yet.

In our last batch of mail, we received a piece of mail that belongs to some friends of ours who also are here in the Valley for the winter and use the same UPS store we use to forward our mail.  I sent Raymond a text and told him we'd bring it by next time we were in the area.  Shortly after that I put it in the truck so we'd be sure to have it with us if we made it that way, and today we did.  We happened to catch them at their park so we stopped by to deliver it.  They invited us in to visit for a bit and to see their new motorhome.  It was very nice, and we had a great visit with them.

When we left their park we headed back to the McAllen/Mission area.  We stopped at Palinque Grill in McAllen for lunch.  We thought we were going to a taco place but when we walked in we knew it was a little more than that.  The prices were a little more than we normally would pay for lunch but we decided we would share a fajita plate - an excellent choice.  The food was delicious!  We both had three "tacos" out of the chicken fajitas they brought us, as well as a plate of tortilla chips, warm salsa and some wonderful refried beans and rice. They brought a mix of corn and flour tortillas when I asked.  All of this for only $15, so even though it wasn't what we expected we were quite happy with what we accidentally found!

I needed a special sized envelope to mail something back home so we stopped at Walmart.  While there I found a shirt to go with a pair of the bike shorts I bought.  We were also looking for a certain Great Value trail mix that we love - Nut & Honey.  We've already looked at three Walmart's near us, and we tried two more today - with no luck.  All of the other "flavors" were available.  Everyone must love this particular flavor, just like us.  We stopped at the post office in Mission to mail the package back home, and then headed back to Bentley.

Mission has some neat butterfly statues in their downtown area.  When I saw this one I knew I had to get a picture for our son Marc.

Once home, I read some of my blogs until I started getting sleepy.  Unfortunately, when I laid down and tried to sleep I was wide awake!

Dean worked on his bicycle seat.  He raised it twice today while we were at the park, and both times it worked back down so he was going to address that problem;  hopefully in a permanent way.  Unfortunately while we were out today we forgot to look for bicycle helmets - maybe we can do that tomorrow.

The sun finally made it through the clouds and it has warmed up nicely.  We turned the air conditioner on before we left and had to turn the temperature down a little more after we returned.

I finally made a decision on a camera.  Today I placed the order - which gives me at least two weeks to get some great pictures of birds and butterflies before we begin our travels back to Kansas.  It will be great to have on our trip north as well later this year.  I really miss my good camera; so thank you so much to my wonderful husband, Dean - for my combination Valentine's and Anniversary present from him.

We spent the rest of the evening watching the Olympics (I may have been checking out the inside of my eyelids a time or two) before finally heading to bed.
