Monday, August 3, 2020 - Another Visit to Camping World---A Trip Wasted; Change of Plans for Today's Campground; A New Camping World Near St. Charles, MO; 370 Lake Road Park Campground

Drena mentioned yesterday that a nearby restaurant, "Grillo's Cafe" had a good breakfast menu.  That's all it took, Dean was read to go.  Lol!

We arrived around 8am.  Dean noticed the ham steak breakfast on the morning specials as we walked in, and his mind was made up.  I chose Texas French Toast.  They brought Dean an enormous amount of food, requiring him to bring half of his ham steak home, along with half a biscuit.  While my breakfast was good, I was disappointed it was not Texas toast, but made with regular bread.  Overall we enjoyed our meal and the waitress was really attentive, which always makes a meal a little better.

Soon we were headed west on I-44, back to Camping World to get a new surge protector, but alas, they did not have any stock.  I should have called first!

Our drive to Camping World

Who would have thought!!!  The gentleman who we talked to said they had been flying off the shelves.  Well, now I know why I couldn't get that reservation in Robertsville. We are no longer headed that way.  We are changing our route to head northeast toward St. Charles, MO where another Camping World is located.  I called the store and spoke with Neil.  He said they had one 50 amp surge protector left.  When I asked if he would hold it for us until we arrived later this afternoon, he said he would.  He asked for our contact information so he could put a note on it with our name and phone number.

Other RV units parked behind us in this small park.

Dean remembered when we were visiting with our neighbors Marion and Jonnie at Bernice, OK they had mentioned a beautiful lake they stayed at near St. Charles, MO.  Marion recently sent us their contact information, so I sent a text asking the name of the lake.  He responded pretty quick that it was 370 Lakeside Park at St. Peters, MO.  We adjusted our route through Lake of the Ozarks, skirting St. Louis altogether - one place we do not enjoy driving through due to the traffic.  Thank you Marion for the information and for answering us so quickly.

This motorcoach must have broke down on the Interstate - a wrecker was getting ready to hookup to the front.

Such a beautiful day near Lake of the Ozarks

Many boats on the water

As we crossed the Missouri River - I did not see all of these spots when I took the picture.  Looking closer, there is a walkway along the bridge.  I believe these are locks attached to the mesh screen.

Clouds are building.

And the rain comes!

Notice the beaver at the top of the light pole. Each light as you enter the park has a different animal displayed on top.

We had a nice drive with a few light rains.  As we neared St. Peters the skies opened and it poured.  All in all, traffic wasn't too bad until we hit some road construction.   Fortunately, we were able to keep moving, but it was slow going for about 5 miles.

We quickly understood why Marion and Jonnie liked this lake so well.  It is beautiful, very well manicured with several rows of RV spots.  We were fortunate to get site 102, a waterview site that also provided beautiful sunsets.  Talk about a wow factor.  In addition, it was a beatuiful day - cool enough I almost wished for sweats!  Again, we set up quickly, then we headed back down I-70 to a huge Camping World to pick up the EMS Surge Protector.  Interesting, when we paid for it the cashier said they could hardly keep them in stock lately.  We follow RVTravel.com, an online publication, providing information for RVer's.  Recent comments have been about how many RV's are being purchased during the Covid 19 virus, as a way to get out in nature, rather than being cooped up at home.  Maybe that's where the surge protectors are going!

Camping World has the greatest flags.  America The Beautiful!!!

A new perk at Camping World - businesses where you can obtain discounts with your Good Sam Membership!  I was surprised to see Verizon, Amazon and a few others listed.  We'll have to check those out!

After paying for our product we headed back to the lake.  This is a beautiful park with walking trails along the water.  We didn't walk this evening as it was pretty chilly outside.  It was cooler than normal today, but after the rain it dropped into the upper 60's.  We plan to walk in the morning and maybe again tomorrow evening.

Our new surge protector

For dinner we cleaned out the refrigerator, having our leftovers for dinner.  Dean chose to have the orange chicken from Saturday evening, followed by his ham steak and biscuit from breakfast this morning.  I enjoyed the last of my burrito from the Mexican restaurant yesterday.  After dinner, I decided I needed to do something with the peaches I bought while we were in Osceola over a week ago.  A couple of them had a few dark spots that I cut out, but all in all I had almost 3 1/2 cups.  I added some sugar, flour and cinnamon to the peaches, mixed them up with some butter and placed them in a pie crust.  I only had half of a second crust, so I cut it in pieces and laid on top of the pie, covering most of it.  It cooked for 45 minutes in the Convection Oven at 400.  Oh, if we only had some ice cream, however, the pie was pretty good on it's own.

Yummy - Fresh peach pie!

Hopefully we can get out early tomorrow and see some sites in the area.  I've heard many nice things about downtown St. Charles, so we'll visit there for sure.  I'll need to dig out some sweats though if it stays this cool while we are gone.

Out our front door this evening!

God is so good to us!  We are thankful everyday that he watches over us, keeping us safe on the road and providing us with his beauty as we travel.

  1. You've stayed in a couple of nice spots but yes, I agree about Lakeside Park. It looks like a very nice place to stay.
Glad you found a surge protector, interesting how they are selling like hot cakes.
That peach pie looks yummy, I seldom buy peaches because we don't buy them enough and of course trying to limit carbs doesn't make baking as fun.

    1. I am amazed what this park has to offer. We've enjoyed it and the weather has been wonderful. The peach pie has been very good. I'll be glad when it's gone! I was surprised they were still good after I had them for a good 8-10 days before using them. They must have been picked early. They had very good flavor. I prefer to make something like this when we have company....so we don't eat it all.

  2. We visited the Camping World in Tulsa a couple weeks ago with some family members who are RV shopping. The sales lot was half empty, and the salesman said between late deliveries from the factories due to COVID, and lots of people buying RV's, they have a hard time keeping them in stock. Used RV's are selling very quickly too.

    1. It's crazy!!! This is the first time traveling I've had such a difficult time finding a place to stay. It's taken several phone calls, emails, etc. to find one.
