May 12, 2020 - Rain, Rain Go Away; Much To Do; Walmart Trip; Pork Chop Dinner; Tricky Dessert

I had a hard time falling asleep last night.  I was cold for one thing, so I got up and added another blanket to the bed.  I still laid awake for awhile and the next thing I knew I was waking up and it was 6am.  I couldn't believe I slept so late.  The last few days have been busy, busy so maybe that's why.  It was raining when we went to bed and it was still raining when I woke up.  When I was able to see outside a short time later here's what it looked like.

It rained most of the morning.

I had a lot of things I wanted to accomplish today.  Laundry being high on the list.  With Dean working at the garage everyday means more laundry than normal.  Usually we wear things at least twice before I wash them, but he gets pretty dirty working in the yard and mowing, so the hamper fills up a little faster now.

As soon as I had the coffee going, the first load (towels) went in the washer.  When they finished I set them for an 80 minute drying time.  Jeans next - I don't like to dry them as long as I do the towels - so they are now hanging on the shower rod with the fan on them.

Dean returned at noon.  I warmed up a leftover hamburger for him, while I ate half an avocado with a dollop of chicken salad on it, wrapped in a tortilla.  Afterwards, Dean cut up an apple for each for us with some peanut butter.

Cindy called before Dean left to go back to the garage to see if I wanted to ride with her to the Parsons Walmart.  Dean needed DEF and a few other things and there was an item or two I could get as well.  She picked me up a short time later.  This was my first visit inside a Walmart in over two months.  It wasn't real busy and since I needed things in several places it was pretty easy to "social distance".  Even in the grocery section people seemed to be aware of others.  Everyone seemed more kind and considerate of others that what I remember.  The direction for each aisle was noted, and for the most part people followed it.  If someone was in front of them, they usually waited for that person to finish before moving on - and I know I did.  Not just for me, but to be considerate of others.   While waiting for Cindy to finish, I looked around in the clothing department.  I found a pair of jean capris I liked.  I bought them without trying them on in the store.  I'd rather do that at home and if they fit okay I'll keep them, if not, I'll return them.

Earlier in the day I laid out a package of pork chops.  I was surprised when I opened it to see how large they were.  I will brown them, then add cream of mushroom mixed with some milk allowing them to slow cook on the stove-top for 30-40 minutes.  I made a package of dehydrated potatoes; they will be good with the gravy.  The packaged potatoes are not only affordable but they make a great meal.

Dinner tonight

I warmed a can of peas with some butter and seasoning.  Earlier this morning I set out 4 frozen yeast rolls to rise this afternoon.  350 in the convection oven for 15 minutes and they were perfect.  It was a good meal and we'll top it off later with some banana cream puddling, one of Dean's favorites.

While I was making dinner I kept hearing something knocking on the window but I couldn't see anything except the hummingbird feeder swinging around.  I finally moved to the couch so I could see it straight on.  It wasn't long when I saw an oriole land on it.  I guess he decided this should be his feeder.  He'd leave and within seconds he was back.  I'm not sure if he ever got any sugar water out of the feeder or not but he wasn't going to give up easily.  He finally left and the hummer returned.  I was happy to see that.

I almost had dinner ready when Dean arrived.  I asked him if he got the picture I sent him earlier.  He just shook his head and grinned.  I already knew his phone was still here - it pinged when I sent him the picture.  I don't like it when he forgets to take his phone to the garage.  Here's what I sent him - we have a visitor!

We visited a bit about what he did today.  He worked in the garage as it rained most of the day and the yard was too muddy to be outside doing anything.  He said the areas where the old fish ponds were located were completely full of water.

I did the dishes and put things up right after we ate.  I want to get this posted tonight.  Dean and I had talked about calling Dacy and Tucker a few days ago and asking them to come over for dinner.  Dean called Dacy and she said she'd love to come and will tell Tucker about when he gets home later.  It will be good to catch up with both of them.

I went upstairs to put some clothes away.  When I came downstairs I realized it was already past 8pm.  We haven't had our dessert yet - so I pulled the pudding out of the refrigerator, put a spoonful of cool whip on top and brought it to our chairs to eat it.  I stopped eating to check to see if my pictures had finished downloading.  When I saw they had, I turned to pick up my dish and this is what I saw:

 Where did my pudding go?

I glanced over toward Dean and this is what was in his hands:

What a trickster!  He sure got a good laugh out of that!

Well, it's 8:37, the last load of clothes are almost drive and I'm ready to relax and read some blog posts.  I've not had a chance to read any for a few days and I want to catch up on what everyone else is doing.  Thanks to all who follow along!

Thanks for following along!

  1. I'm sure you're anxious to get to the lot and 'settle' completely. Looks like we both went to Walmart for the first time on the same day. Our experience was good too. I would have liked to poke through the clearance sections in clothes but Bill was with me and I'm never as relaxed when he is waiting. Wish Walmart was closer.
Dean is funny, Bill and I have played that trick on each other too.
Lovely oriole. Have you put oranges out for him?
I'm always after Bill for not taking his phone down to the Hangar. It isn't that far but beats me running out to tell him something important. He has learned from all his lectures! haha

  2. I feel the same way about going to Wmart or any "shopping that Dean doesn't enjoy" and looking for something I want to look at. 🤫
I tried the oranges but preferred using the jelly. I just look for the cheapest grape jelly I can find.
