I've decided to go ahead and post yesterday's (9-18) and today's events (9-19). Saturday the 15th and Monday the 17th we had very busy days with lots of pictures that I am still sorting through. We are going to be here for a few days, so I plan to use this time to get caught up - with several things actually....laundry, cleaning, blogging, planning our route back to Kansas....and we needed a little down time in order to take care of of it all. We do have one afternoon trip planned on Thursday, but otherwise we'll be resting and taking care of our to-do's.
We were not in a rush to leave this morning since we cannot check into our next campsite until noon. Our original plan was to travel to Massachusetts from here, but we've decided to bypass it this time Instead, we are going to begin our trek back toward Kansas, with a stop thrown in we had not planned to do on our return trip. We've decided to stop at Matt & Megan's again. With the change in our route we'll be so close as we go back, that we hate to not take advantage of one last visit. We miss them already, and we miss our kids back home too. We love traveling and seeing this beautiful country but we sure do miss our family. I'm thankful we live where we do - it's a great place to travel from versus living on one coast or the other, or far north or south. No matter which way we go, we can easily make a stop back in Kansas before taking off in another direction. We are thankful for that.
So, that being said, I was looking at the maps trying to figure out the best way to get back to New York from Bangor, ME. There is not really a direct route. It occurred to me that our neighbors next to us here in the park, Rita and Richard, live near Albany, NY so possibly they could offer some tips on the best route. While I was inside putting things away, Dean was outside packing thiings up. When Richard came outside a short time later, Dean mentioned that I would like to ask him for suggestions on a route back to New York. I heard them talking so I stepped outside. He grabbed a map of New York, New Hampshire and Vermont and his wife Rita came out as well. He pointed out the route he would take and we are going to follow it. I really appreciated the time they took with us.
I was going to include this information in one of the posts I haven't completed yet, but since I've mentioned Rita and Richard I'm going to tell you about them now. I think it was the day after we arrived, we were outside as they came back to the park one afternoon. We started visiting with them, and the conversation went to parks we've visited and looking for the best deals. She mentioned Passport America and I told her we had used it more this year than we ever have and it has really saved us quite a bit of money. The conversation led to the campground we stayed at in Saco, ME which was also a Passport America campground. Come to find out they were parked two sites from us. They were parked two sites down from us at Silver Springs CG in Saco; and while we were at Mainstay Cottages and RV Park in Winter Harbor, they were camped just a short distance down the road at Schoodic Woods, then we both moved to Lubec, ME the same day and parked next to each other. What are the chances? Honestly, probably more than we realize!
Soon after, our neighbor on the other side pulled out. John, (Airstream) on the next site over visited with us for 25-30 minutes before we finally finished packing up and pulled out of our site. We needed to stop at the dump station before leaving, as we did not have a sewer hookup here. While we were there a gentleman walked over to visit with Dean. He noticed our Heartland Big Horn, and he has a Heartland Big Country. They are from Florida. He told Dean he had never been to a Florida rally, but had attended at least one in Louisiana. The more we travel the more I enjoy the opportunity to meet other RVer's. There is such a commoniality between us all.
We finally pulled out of Sunset Point RV Park at 10:25am headed for Bangor, ME. Fortunately we did not have to take Highway 1 right away and were able to bypass the road construction we've had to travel several times while we were here. It is a really rough road, especially if we were to pull Bentley down it.

Twelve miles from Bangor we saw another beautiful church - I love the steeples. |
What a beautiful day it was to travel. It was a comfortable drive and even though we had to transition to several different roads on the way, it seemed like the time went by pretty quick.
As we entered Bangor I could not quit taking pictures. This is a really beautiful community.

I made reservations for 3 days, but we decided to add another day to our stay here since we are making a change in our overall travel plan. We want to arrive at Matt's on Friday, so we can spend all day Saturday with them before we head out again on Sunday morning. We will have two more, three day stops between here and Matt's.
After a quick lunch, I started laundry. Sunset Point Campground did not have sewer hookups, so 5 days of laundry accumulated pretty quickly. The washer had not been running long, and our electric went off. Dean went outside to look at the power pedestal. By then the electric had come back on and our surge protector was powered back up. A short time later it went out again, and while we were outside looking at the pedestal again, our new neighbors pulled in---they arrived shortly after we did, and then had left. Dean mentioned to them we had lost power and wondered if they might have as well. They checked to see if the clock on their microwave was still on, since they set it before they left. It was still on, so we assumed it was our pedestal. We have 50 amp service. We had both air conditioners runnig ---it was hot in Bentley and a little warm when we arrived here--- and of course the washing machine was running, but that is not unusual usage with 50 amp service. We shut one air condition off since it had cooled off by now, and we did not have anymore problems.
We visited with our neighbors for at least 30 minutes or so. Again, we met another really nice couple. They are from Arizona and have been visiting their son in Maryland. They just came from Conecticut, and are going to Bar Harbor from here. We told them about the places we stayed and offered a few suggestions. Once we came back in, we decided to just run down the road a couple of miles and get a burger at one of the fast food restaurants we saw on the way here. We were both tired and it was easy!
After watching a little TV we were both ready for a good night's sleep.
