Thursday, September 20, 2018 - Searching for my Purse; Getting a Haircut; Visiting Maine Outfitter in Greenville, ME

I made an appointment to get my haircut at 9am this morning.  As we got ready to walk out the door, I realized I could not find my purse.  Occasionally, I will forget and leave it in the truck but after checking there, still no purse.  So where have we been?  After giving it some thought I remembered we stopped at the grocery store on our way back from our sightseeing yesterday, the only place I could have left it.  After I thought about it I was pretty sure I knew where too, and how I happened to do that?  Hannaford Grocery has these nice small carts, that are perfect when you just need a few things.  There is no place to put your purse like in the larger carts where you typically would put a child.  There is a smaller area below and that is where I set my purse - big mistake, because I'm not used to that and walked right off and left it setting - fortunately inside of the grocery store and not out in the parking lot, or even where the carts are stored just outside the door.  I called the grocery store as we headed toward the hair salon and yes, they have it.  We were passing by it on our way, so we stopped and I ran in to get it.  Everything was there so God took care of me again!  He's just so good!

Next stop at the Hair Salon.  All I can say is Marla, I miss you!  I think this has to be the hardest part of traveling for me.  I do not like messing with my hair - Marla knows this - I've gone to her for so long, she knows me and she also understands how my crazy hair lays (or doesn't lay).  Trying to have someone like me explain it to someone who doesn't know anything about my hair or me - well, it just doesn't work.  I showed her a picture and explained what I wanted but....let's just say, it WILL grow out, and I'll be back in Oswego within 4.5 weeks.  I'm not sure anything but the top will need a trim because there isn't much left in the back!  You have to laugh at things like this and just go on.....and, at least in this part of the country, no one knows me!  It could be worse!  LOL!!

As we returned to the campground we saw this flock of turkeys.

We ate lunch shortly after we returned and then started gathering up jackets, sweatshirts, etc. for an adventure we have scheduled for this afternoon/evening.  We have signed up for a Guided Moose Safari in Greenville, ME.  It's close to a 2 hour drive from our campsite.  We left about 12:45 to allow plenty of time for our drive.  It was a perfect day and we enjoyed the ride.  In fact the scenery was so beautiful that Dean and I both decided we would love to return to this part of the state and spend some time.  So far we haven't seen anything in Maine we do not love - but of course, we haven't seen any snow yet!  That could change everything.  Lol!

I don't remember the name of the town but it looks like we could be riding down a street in Oswego - except this, like so many of the city's leave their flags up every day.  I am truly amazed at how many of them do this.  It really is a welcoming sight.  Many continue beyond the city itself.

 The views were amazing!

I have never seen a church with a clock in it like this - at least 3 sides - and not too far down the road we saw another one, but I didn't notice it quick enough to get a picture.

I almost missed this covered bridge.  They are really beautiful.

We arrived at the Maine Outfitter about 2:30.  I was expecting to find a small building where we would meet up with the guide.  Instead we arrived at a large store that according to their webpage.....they "have everything you need to outfit you for any adventure you desire, for any season, and will help you choose the right equipment".  I believe they can from what we saw.  We made use of their restroom facilities shortly before we left.  Two other couples joined us and our guide for the 3:00 moose safari.  Dean set up front in the 10-12 passenger van and I shared the second back seat with a couple from Ohio on our way to the pond where we will start our safari canoeing.  I can't remember the name of our guide, but he did a great job.  When we arrived at the site, we donned our lifejackets and walked maybe a quarter mile to the pond's edge where three canoes and oars were stored along the path (padlocked together).  Dean and I shared a canoe with the guide.  I set in the middle on the "Princess Seat" as he called it!  Didn't I feel special?  Here's a picture of the seat I set on.

The seat sets on the floor in the middle of the canoe.  A back unlocked from the seat so I had something to lean against.  There was a wooden bar across the middle of the canoe.  Once I set down on the seat, I was able to use the bar to pull the seat (and me) up close to the bar, which allowed the guide to have enough leg room in the back of the canoe.

My seat was pretty comfortable as long as I changed the positions of my legs once in awhile.  Keeping them straight like that for so long got a little uncomfortable but shifting around made it tolerable.

It started to sprinkle; and then a light rain - we are pretty sure we need to have some type of light rain gear - this is the second time in two weeks we wish we would have had something.

A beaver's dam, but we did not see any beavers!

Our canoeing partners floating around waiting on us to get on the water.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful is all I can say!

Look at the reflection - just like a mirror!

Our guide leading us back to the van after our unsuccessful attempt to find a moose while on the water.

The sun trying to shine through the clouds.

It was so beautiful out here.

We saw more colorful trees in this area that we have anywhere in Maine.

 AND.....DRUMROLL........

HERE IS OUR MOOSE!

This is the only one we saw but we were sure glad our trip wasn't a bust!  These pictures are not the best because we were just too far away, the brushy area was not the best backdrop, especially for this late in the day.  However, we were thrilled to see one in the wild.  It was a young bull.  He just stood in one spot and looked around and finally ambled off into the brush.  Between the view and the moose we were quite happy with the outcome; especially when our guide told us they could not find one yesterday afternoon.

I thought the drive home would be difficult.  I was really tired and after riding in the van down very rough, bumpy roads my neck was feeling a bit uncomfortable.  Fortunately sister Cindy called; and then son Marc called.  It helped the ride go by so much faster catching up with these two.
