Tuesday, June 30, 2020 - Half the Year Has Passed; Fun with Grandkids; Quiet Evening at Home

Tuesday, June 30, 2020 - Half the Year Has Passed; Fun with Grandkids; Quiet Evening at Home

It was a little after 4:30 when I woke this morning.  I had some things I wanted to get done early as Kamron and Jaxson are coming over for the day.  I didn't quite get all of the laundry finished yesterday so I wanted to get started early to get it finished.  I had a little straightening to do, putting things away, which didn't take very long.  We often play games when the kids are here, so it just seems like things become cluttered quickly, so I wanted my paperwork and such put away.

It is hard to believe today is the end of the first six months of 2020.  What a year it has been!  It started out great with Jarred's ordinaton at his church to fulfill his desire to be a minister of God.  We spent some great time traveling from Oswego to Texas (Big Bend was wonderful), New Mexico, Arizona and California, where we spent a wonderful weekend with grandson Logan, and meeting up with three fellow bloggers in Arizona.  Then it all changed on Saturday, March 14 when Coronavirus became a gamechanger for us.  At that point we ramped up our travel home as we heard of more and more campgrounds closing.  We knew we had a place waiting for us in Oswego.  It's hard to believe how things have changed.

On a happy note, Kamron and Jaxson are coming to spend the day with us.  Marc called me before I left to pick them up; asking me to stop and get some of Aunt Julie's sourdough doughnuts.  Aunt Julie's Kitchen is a "concession food trailer" based here in Oswego.  They set up their trailer at the Harvest House every Tuesday morning.  Dean and I have been wanting to try them and Marc has too, so I stopped on my way (3 blocks from the park) and picked up a dozen.  I am so sorry for not taking a picture.    I expect we'll have them again someday - but not too soon.  I think my blood sugar must have jumped 3 points!!!!  HAHA  It wasn't that bad, but they are HUGE doughnuts!

The Harvest House was recently purchased (along with 3 other homes) by a local couple to be used as Air BNB's.  In addition to the Air BNB, the Harvest House can also be rented for small gatherings, parties, events through the week.  Now that Aunt Julie's is on site every Tuesday morning the house is open for people to come in and visit, while they enjoy doughnuts and a cup of coffee or tea.  It is also open on Thursday for visiting, coffee or tea.  It has been a big hit in the community.  We haven't been yet, but hope to sometime soon.

Over this past weekend our friends Donnie & Janie stayed here and Dean and I had the chance to see the home.  It is really a gorgeous home and has all the comforts needed during a stay.  I love highlighting great things happening in our community!

So now, after my Oswego, KS advertisement; I picked up the doughnuts and headed to Altamont to pick up Kamron and Jaxson.  We all enjoyed a doughnut, well everyone but Jaxson.  He's not big on sweets....and I wish I could say that about myself.  Unfortunately, sweets are extremely hard for me to pass up.  We all enjoyed them.  Six would have been enough though, rather than the dozen I purchased.

After having our doughnuts we headed back to Bentley.  We had planned to visit my niece's swimming pool this morning, but since we had thunder, lightening and rain, we decided to wait until after lunch to go.  In the meantime we played games - SORRY, UNO and Slap Jack.  It was fun!  I made pancakes for Jaxson and he and I enjoyed those for lunch.  Kamron was too full on doughnuts, and Papa wanted his regular lunch, sandwich, vegetables (celery and broccoli) and his apple.

Shortly before 1pm, me and the kids changed into our swimming suits and headed to my nieces house.  With the temperatures being so warm recently I was expecting warmer water.  It was COLD!  Once you were in, it wasn't bad at all.  We enjoyed over an hour in the water.  I did remember to take a few pictures of the kids.

After we returned to Bentley and changed out of our suits, we played some more games before I took them home around 3.  Jaxson has a play date with a new friend at 5, so I wanted him to have time to rest a bit beforehand.

I always enjoy seeing the projects Marc is working on in his shop and it was no different today.  He was making a really nice filing cabinet, had made 15 sets of cornhole boards, that were ready to be finished and a large conference table, along with several other projects in various stages of construction process.

It was a great day.  We had our meal and rested the rest of the evening.  I think someone drifted off a few times before taking herself to bed.

  1. Until you said it, I can't believe it that 1/2 the year has gone by! The days just disappear like slipping silk through our fingers.
Nice day for a grandkids visit and perfect day for the pool!
