Saturday, July 18, 2020 - Dacy's HS Graduation; Laundry; Celebration of Life for Our Friend Phil
I was awake around 5:30am, and soon was making the coffee. I had left a load of clothes downstairs so I could get them started first thing this morning. After starting the coffee, the clothes went in the washing machine. I spent a couple of hours working on the blog, hoping to get it finished. I took on the task of painting my toenails next. It's that time of year where I prefer wearing flip flops or sandals, so it must be done. Next we needed to get ready so we could attend our granddaughter Dacy's High School graudation at Columbus, KS. This was the third date for their graduation and thankfully it went off without a hitch. We expected it to last longer than it did - but it was only an hour. Since the event was held outside, I think everyone was glad it didn't last any longer, as it was a very hot morning sitting in the sun. We chose to move to the bleachers on the west side. I'm thankful we didn't have to have the sun in our eyes.

Jameson was so good - he never cried, just looked around to see what was going on.
Afterwards, we took a few pictures with Dacy, gave her a graduation card and a little gift, then we said our goodbyes and returned to Oswego. I asked Dean to stop at the grocery store before going home, as we didn't have a thing to eat for lunch. I went in for lunch meat, but ended up with a few other things I realized we were out of. For lunch I made a quick sandwich, added a few chips; followed by our apple and peanut butter.

Papa, Dacy & Nana...too bad I didn't have red shorts - but at least we were wearing red, white and blue!!!
Dean went to the lot to finish mowing and I had a few things to take care of here at Bentley. He returned at 3:15. After he showered, we headed to Wagoner, OK to attend a Celebration of Life for our friend and fellow RVer, Phil Mackey. I wrote about Phil back in March. He and his wife, Janelle were both diagnosed with Covid-19 and Phil succombed to the virus on March 27. As with many people, services of any kind have been on hold for several months. Several of their friends, as well as one of their daughers, their son and Janelle spoke about Phil. We have many memories of our own of Phil since we first met him in April 2015 at our first Escapees rally. We will really miss him!

What a beautiful tree covered setting for the Celebration of Life!
We visited with two other couples in our RVing club during the meal - Alvin & Linda, and Charlie & Jan. We enjoyed catching up with them. What a meal Phil's family had for us, pulled pork and smoked bologna (2 of Phil's favorites), along with potato salad, cole claw, baked beans and wonderful desserts - apple, peach or cherry pie/cobbler and two kinds of cookies. It was nearly 8, when we left. We made a stop in Wagoner to get gas at Quick Trip, and to use their facilities, before heading home.
Dean and I visited back and forth as we made our way north, and I was even able to get a few pictures of the sunset. We made it back to Oswego shortly after 10:00pm. We sit to wind down for a bit, that didn't last but about 15-20 minutes, and that's all it took. We barely laid down and we were out. It was another good day!
Sunday, July 19, 2020 - More Laundry; Helping Misti Pack; House Cleaning; Chili For Dinner
As I often do, I took a load of clothes downstairs before going to bed last night, so I could begin my first load of laundry early this morning, right after I turned on the coffee pot. It was about 5:30 when I woke. By the time I put some pre-spray on a couple of items, loaded the clothes, added the soap and started the machine, enough coffee had been perked that I was soon enjoying my first cup. Dean came downstairs a short time later.
I had sent Misti a text last night to see when she wanted us to come over to help pack things for her move next weekend. At 6:30 she called to ask what would be a good time, I told her we would be there around 7. Fortunately, the washer stopped soon aftewards. I took the clothes out and laid them out (on top of each other) on the kitchen counter, until I could dry them later.
We were at Misti's shortly after 7 and we all got to work right away. Dean went through her pantry area clearing out any food that was dated, and packing everything else. After that he packed up all of the pictures and wall hangings in boxes, helping with other things as we needed him. Misti and I moved through the house to determine what items she wanted to sell (via Facebook). I took pictures and she gave me a price as we went through each room. I posted them to Facebook and by the end of the day she had sold most of the items. We also started a pile of things to take to a resale shop. We worked until 12:30-1. We accomplished quite a bit - clearing out all of the kitchen cabinets, bathrooms, utility room and packing up all of her pictures. We will finish up next Saturday, then on Sunday we will move everything to her new home in Ponca City, OK.
She had an old washer and dryer that she wanted to get rid of, so I called a friend of mine to see if he would want them. He gathers metal products from people who want to dispose of them. He didn't answer, but I'm sure he will give us a call later.
For lunch we had our leftovers from our meal at the Columbus Golf Course. Dean had beef tips, with three nice size pieces left and I had my alfredo over rice/veggies with philly steak, followed by our apple/peanut butter.
I spent the rest of the day washing clothes and cleaning the RV. I cleaned out the refrigerator, then washed the dishes from this morning and lunch. Earlier Dean asked me if I had paid Todd. It's been so busy since we arrived I had forgotten all about it. I sent him a text to let him know I was sorry, and to make sure we would have a spot when we returned on the 25th through the 31st. He said we would, so I made out a check to include through the 31st and walked it up to the shop. He was outside so we visited for a few minutes. I mentioned I was headed back to clean the RV, from top to bottom. He loaned me this really nice brush on an extended pole to use. I have one, but it's short and not nearly as full as his was. It was wonderful. I was able to brush down the ceiling, walls, woodwork, etc. It made the job much easier than with my smaller one. I wish I had room to keep one like that in the rig, but I don't. It had an extendable handle, which made it nice to adjust as I moved through the RV wiping everything down. When I was finished I took it back. I was unable to find him so I left it outside his office door and sent him a text to let him know where I put it.
My friend called me back mid afternoon and said he could get the washer and dryer. I called Dean but the call did not go through. Sometimes it works well at the garage and other times it doesn't. I drove to the garage to let him know as Troy might need some help loading it. We both drove to Misti's and he got both of them outside on the driveway, then waited with Haleigh until he arrived.
When I returned, my next step was to clean the bathroom, followed by a good vacuuming throughout. It was almost 5 when I finished. Dean returned just a short time later. I took a pound of hamburger from the freezer earlier for dinner. Even though it's pretty warm outside I was in the mood for chili and Dean was fine with it. It tasted really good this evening! I washed the dishes then continued with the laundry. With a combo unit, you have to wash and dry each load in the same machine so each load takes 1.5-2 hours to do. I washed several loads today, and finished the next to last load at 10pm. I'll do the last one when I get up in the morning, as I wanted to wash towels and our clothes from today as well.
Dean watched TV and I tried to work on the blog. After finishing up Saturday's post, I was too tired to write today's; besides my pictures were not downloading fast enough to include in Saturday's post, so I had to lay it aside. It's been a busy few days. We both showered before going to bed, so we didn't have to do it in the morning. Tomorrow we will be moving to a campground near Osceola, MO for our July casual campout. Before we leave we have something else to do, plus make a stop on our way.

You are far too ambitious with your cleaning and laundry every day for me! Stop rolling in the mud, you two! haha Just teasing, we do wash once a week and that is plenty for us!
ReplyDeleteSorry about Phil, that is so sad to lose a good friend. You haven't known him long but I can tell it was a wonderful friendship. :(
Congrats to Dacy, that is a really nice picture of the three of you. :D
