I had an appointment with the Chiropractor at 8:30 this morning. We are really making progress. I've been doing my daily exercises he gave me and the adjustments are making a difference. I returned to the park about 9:30.
We are going to Mexico with our friends Steve an Diane this morning. We picked them up at their site at 10:00 a.m. and made it just outside of the park when Dean turned around to head back to Bentley. He'd forgotten his hearing aids. It would have been a really long day for ALL of us, if he had not realized it right away! Lol!
The drive there went fairly fast as we talked on the way there. We were surprised when we arrived at the parking areas. There are two very large parking lots either side before the border crossing and they were nearly full when we pulled in. We parked on the left side at the far end where only a few parking spaces remained. We've never been to Mexico when it was this busy.
The first thing we did was stop at an eyecare store so Dean could get a new pair of glasses. We picked out a pair of frames and then they tested his eyes. They told us they would have them ready by 10am on Saturday. From there we moved on down the road a couple of blocks so Diane and Steve could have their new glasses adjusted. It didn't take long at all and they were happy with the changes made. Our next stop was at Jessica's for lunch. For me this was the best lunch I've had on our trips into Progresso, Mexico. I always order Mexican when we are here and this surpassed them all. They had good music but it was way to loud for me, however we really enjoyed watching the Mexican couples who entertained us during our lunch.

From here we stopped at a local pharmacy across the road and bought a few items, before heading back to the main road.
We stopped at another store where I bought several more bottles of vanilla and a neat bag that I know I will find a number of uses for. It worked perfect for hauling my vanilla and medicines back to the truck.
We made a quick stop at Don-Wes Flea Market on the way back to Mission. Diane checked on something she had ordered, and I showed her the booth where she could buy a container to hold her knee and foot when we play cards (Hand, Knee & Foot).
Jack and Lynette sent a note to see if we'd like to come over for beans and cornbread. When we returned to the park, we set and visited with out neighbors Larry and Carolyn for awhile. They have their park model for sale, but I sure hope they come back at least another year. They are such a nice couple.
About 5:00 we walked over to Jack and Lynette's. Lynette had sent a text that I missed. She decided to make homemade bread (OH!!! this is not good for my diet, but can I hurt our hosts feelings by not eating at least 1 roll?....of course not, I must do it to show her how much I appreciate her cooking!) Was that a good enough excuse? Honestly, the beans were very good and the bread was divine! I ate one whole roll and shared another with Dean. I figured since I really messed up on eating Mexican food today this was my cheat day and I will be good after this.
After dinner they showed us a new dice game called 10,000. It was a lot of fun and I would enjoy playing it again before we leave to make sure I remember exactly how it is played. I think my sister Cindy and her husband Elmer might like it too.
Thursday, February 14, 2019 - Happy BIrthday; Early Morning Valentine WIshes; Morning Walk; Valentine Dinner with Friends.
Happy Birthday to my step-sister, Cindy Westervelt!. I hope you had a wonderful day!
Today is Valentine's Day, so soon after I got up, I sent Dean a Valentine text message. We quit buying cards and gifts for things like this several years ago. Cards are so expensive, I don't need candy, but we occasionally go out to eat to make it special - or we cook a nice meal at home to enjoy together.
It was awhile after Dean was up and had a cup of coffee before he found the text message and he soon returned one to me! Such a sweet husband he is!
We did our 2 mile morning walk around the park. I did some laundry, worked on some things here in the RV, and about 3:15 we started getting ready to go out to dinner with our Heartland friends. We are driving, Jack and Lynette are riding with us. We will meet the others at Saltgrass Steakhouse. We've never been to one of these restaurants before so I was looking forward to it - at least until our neighbor behind us told us a couple went for a special occasion and it cost them over $75. We typically do not spend anything like that on a meal - it just seems such a waste when you can eat for so much less at other restaurants or by making it yourself. We'll have to choose carefully.
We met Nancy and Dave, and Lin and Debbie at the restaurant. We had a great meal with good conversation. Dean ordered a ribeye steak, baked potato and salad. I had a filet, salad and brussel spouts. It was one of the best filets I've had in a very long time, it was very tender and had lots of flavor. Dean wasn't quite as happy with his as I was. With the tip and everything it was less than $50. For a speical, fun dinner it was worth it!
Later after we returned to Val's, Dean and I decided to take a walk around the park. We started a conversation with Dee and Tim. They too are recent full-timers and are staying in the park for their first time this year. They invited us to come down and visit for awhile and we did. We had such a nice time with them and hope we get a chance to visit again before we leave.
As always, it was a good day!
Friday, February 15, 2019 - Dr. Visit, Shopping Trip; Afternoon Phone Calls; Evening Show
I had another chiropractic visit this morning. Things are improving and I'm only scheduled for Tuesday and Friday of next week - trying to make sure when we leave on the 24th my back is in great shape. It takes about 25-30 minutes every morning to do the exercises he gave me. That's a little longer than it takes the coffee to perk, so that works out well.
Dean went with me this morning since we have a number of errands to run this morning. I am still looking for some new pendant globes to replace the ones over our kitchen sink. One broke last year while we were traveling and so far we haven't found anything that will fit right. We stopped at Lowe's and The Lighting Store that was closed earlier this week after we left Mr. Gatti's. We decided we would give up on that and check at Colaw's in Carthage, MO when we get back. They have a large supply of used and new parts, so maybe we can find something we like there. If not, we may have to see if we can order some directly from Heartland.
Our next stop was at Kohl's to return a shirt I bought there a few weeks ago. After I got it home and tried it on, I didn't care for it. With the return of the shirt and a $10 reward I had a little over $21, so I visited the shoe department. I am looking for a new pair of tennis shoes for walking and a pair of nice sandals; but as is typical for me they did not have anything I liked in my size. It is very hard to find shoes to fit my long skinny feet. I hate ordering them online because it almost always ends with me having to return them.
Next on the list was Sam's to get a few items we buy in bulk there - Helmann's Mayo; canned chicken (6 cans for less than $10); mixed nuts and we found a couple of additional items - red grapes and gala apples. We love them both and eat some almost daily so they won't last too long.
Our last stop was at Walmart where we bought a few things we needed before finally heading back to Bentley. It was well after 1, and after putting everything away we had a quick lunch. I made a salad for me and a sandwich for Dean. We are both sticking to this diet. Once he runs out of cereal we will not buy anymore. He will be having eggs and bacon or sausage every morning. When I run out of yogurt (this week) I will have the eggs and bacon as well. We eat lots of raw vegetables at lunch with an apple, and usually have chicken salad with half an avocado, or a sandwich in a low carb wrap. Dinner is meat, sauted or grilled vegetables, sweet potatoes, or something similar. I have one of my "energy bites" mid-afternoon and usually a small amount of nuts in the evening. My one big downfall is Mexican food and here in Texas it's hard to pass it up.
After lunch I walked up to the office to let them know we would be leaving the morning of the 24th, and then checked to see if we had any mail. I stopped to visit with Diane at the pool before heading back to Bentley.
When I returned I called my friend Joyce to visit. She has had a bad cold and I was glad to hear she was feeling much better today. Since we have to go back to Mexico tomorrow to get Dean's glasses we might meet up with her and Frank. We discussed summer/fall travels. We are meeting them for sure in Yellowstone and if possible we might meet at another place or two as well.
Soon after that my granddaughter Kamron called me. I had called her earlier but she didn't hear her phone as she had feel asleep. Back in Kansas they are having ice and schools were closed so she was taking advantage of being at home. When I told her it was 85+ here she didn't want to hear about that at all!
My next call was to sister Cindy to see what was going on in Oswego. While I had already seen stories on Facebook, she confirmed that our hospital recently closed. I hate to see that as it has been such an important part of our community. Unfortunately, we are seeing too many of these types of things happening, especially in small rural communities. We visited for awhile catching up on things going on in our lives.
One last phone call was to our good friend Janie. I saw her post on Facebook that husband Donnie retired and today was his last day at work. Wow - it's hard to believe we are all retired now. It seems just yesterday I was starting high school in Oswego. Donnie was a year ahead of me in school. Janie and my sister Cindy were best friends and I barely knew who Dean Peine was. How time's have changed. Congratulations and best wishes Donnie on your retirement. Dean and I have many more good times and laughing to do with you and Janie - no longer limited by work requirements!
We fixed a sandwich for supper and then we got ready for an evening out. We were just about ready to walk out when there was a knock at the door. Jack is driving this evening and he was checking to see if we were ready, and yes we were. A week or two ago I wrote about seeing Tavey with Corbin and Flora and how much we enjoyed her music of the 50's and 60's. She also performs with a group called Shake, Rattle and Roll. That is who we are going to hear tonight.

| Corbin - does this scene seem familiar? |

| Tavey is a good entertainer and makes the show lots of fun. |
What a show it was. While overall it was the same show, the three ladies who performed with her sang at least one or two songs in addition to the original show. One of the ladies was a powerhouse singer. Dean and I both enjoyed it as much as the last show; and of course, Jack and Lynette had not seen it all. I even won one of Tavey's CD's. They played a medley of TV shows and the crowd calls out the name of the show. Prior to playing the last one she mentioned it is one most people cannot name - but I did. Ozzie & Harriet. I can't say I never win anything anymore!
This was truly a GREAT day!
February 16, 2019 - Morning Walk, Mexico Trip, Lunch and Visit with Frank and Joyce, HEB, Chilling at Home
We started our morning with our 2 mile walk around the park. It takes us 5 laps around the park and we actually get a little over 2 miles in during that time.
After breakfast I did dishes, and made the bed before getting ready for our day out. As I mentioned earlier in this post, we are going back to Mexico today to get Dean's glasses. We were pretty much in an out in less than 45 minutes. It took more time to get in and get out than it did to get the errand itself done. We had to wait in line when we left at 11:30 today, and people were still pouring into the parking lots.
I texted Joyce to let her know we were leaving. They were actually leaving Don-Wes when she received my message. We met them at Cheddar's in Harlingen for lunch. I had the grilled chicken pecan salad. The pecans were glazed with sugar and I gave those to Joyce, and I gave my roll to Frank. Dean had chicken alfredo and garlic bread. Joyce had the bourbon glazed salmon and Frank had a chicken fried steak. I think everyone enjoyed their meal.
Afterwards we drove back to their place to see their new motorhome. We stayed for an hour or so before heading back to Mission. I realized after we got back from Walmart yesterday that I had not purchased any meat so we stopped at Aguilar's Meat Market, not too far from the park. It was packed. We waited for over 20 minutes, but the line of people waiting to order from the meat counter was so long we left and headed to HEB. I bought 4 1/3# hamburger patties, 2 # hamburger and 2 pork chops. I wanted to get some chicken tenders or thighs but I need to clean out my freezer first. We'll pick up a few more things before we leave this week. Defrosting the freezer and cleaning out the refrigerator will happen before we leave!!
Once back home, Dean grilled the hamburger patties. He ate his on a wrap, and I just ate mine with a piece of cheese. I also made sweet potato fries in the air fryer. I wasn't too happy with the way they came out so I'll have to work on those. They didn't crisp up like I expected. The flavor was fine though.
After getting the dishes done, I set down to catch up the blog - again! It's now 9:50, I'm tired and I'm closing for the night. I'll proof this tomorrow morning sometime and hope to post it after lunch. Then it will be time to start another one!
I can't believe we only have one week left here in Mission! There is so much we still want to do and we have several things already planned. Eek!!! But we look forward to the next part of this winter/spring journey that we've planned with some of our Escapee's friends as well!
Another great day!
