Tuesday, November 5 - Visiting Today; Voting; Jaxson & Soccer; McDonald's

I received a text message from a dear friend yesterday that she'd had emergency surgery, however she was doing well.  I responded that I'd call her later this evening or tomorrow - not knowing if I'd have time today.  She said anytime was fine.

Dean left shortly afterwards to play golf.  After I finished my morning chores, my friend and I played phone tag for awhile but finally, we had a chance to visit for 45 minutes to an hour.  It was good to hear from her and that she was home and feeling so much better.

I wasn't sure what time Dean would make it back, so I just heated up a slice of pizza I made from the other night (only one left) for my lunch.  I am going to visit my cousin Martha this afternoon, who lives in Chetopa.  My Grandma (Lucille) Blackledge and Martha's mom (Inola) were sisters.  She found a number of old pictures that she wanted to give me if I wanted them.  At 1:15 I headed to her house.  I wasn't able to stay too long, since I am picking Jaxson up at school at 3:15.  We did have a nice visit though and I left with several pictures, many that I've never seen before.

Here's a couple of pictures she gave me.  There are many more and I may share some of them at a later time.

My Great Grandpa and Grandma Duncan on their 50th wedding anniversary.

L to R:  These are five of my Great Grandparents children
Aunt Susan (pronounced Su-sawn); Uncle Bob; Aunt Inola; Uncle Dick and my Grandma, Lucille.  I believe this was taken in front of Grandma Duncan's house on Main Street in Chetopa, probably back in the early 40's - since Uncle Bob and Uncle Dick were both in the Navy during the War.  Another brother Raymond died during the war.

I stopped at Bentley long enough to use the restroom, then headed to Jaxson's school, another 15 minute drive, to pick him up.  I had originally thought I would take him to Parsons, but since he has a soccer game tonight, I brought him back to Oswego so we could pick Papa up and we could all go to the game together.

I needed to stop at the Post Office to see if our mail had arrived.  Jaxson had never been to a Post Office before.  He loves buildings and thought it was "amazing"!

We didn't have much time to play or visit, before we had to change him into his uniform and head to Parsons, because Papa and Nana also needed to vote first.  I told Jaxson he had to set down and be quiet while we filled out our ballots.  The women working wanted to talk with him though and one lady remembered him when she was working at the school he attended last year.  He loved the attention they gave him while we were busy.

Misti called on our way and we let her know where the game was.

We found the soccer field.  We soon realized it was going to be more of a challenge to stay warm than I expected.  Sure enough, I was pretty cold by the time the game was over.  The game was originally scheduled for 5:30, but with the time change they moved it up to 5:00.  Actually, it was a pretty nice day, but the sun left fast and cooled down quickly.  Dean and I took our chairs to sit in.  We were sure glad because those metal bleachers were COLD!  We enjoyed watching Jaxson and his team play, and visiting with Marc, Misti, Kamron and Marc's mother-in-law Lou.  Jennifer didn't get off work in time to see the game.  His last game is this Saturday, so Mom will get to see him then; and we will go back to watch it too.

He's to the right of the coach (holding the white bag) as they are practicing.

It wasn't long after this picture the hat came off.

Running back to where the ball was.

Helping to protect the goal.

A rest before he went in again.
They didn't want to look at me so here are the profiles - Son Marc, Daughter Misti and Marc's daughter Kamron.

Misti took the kids with her and met Dean and I at McDonald's where we had a quick dinner before Dean and I took the kids back home, since Misti needed to get back to pick Haleigh up from work.  We had a fun time at McDonald's and a nice visit with Marc and Jennifer once we made it to their house.

Jaxson telling us about the pictures - it looks like a city!

Kamron sharing something on her phone with Aunt Misti.

It was a busy but very fun day!  Nothing better than spending time with some of our kids and grandkids.

Wednesday, November 6, 2019 - Truck to Parsons; Bible Study; Ham & Beans; Truck Issues; Time to Relax

I was up fairly early and started a load of jeans and did my exercises before I had my first cup of coffee.  Dean needed to have the truck at the Chevrolet Dealership in Parsons at 8 this morning, so at 7:30 we headed north.  We were back in Oswego shortly before 8:30.  We made a quick stop at G&W so I could pick up some lettuce before heading back to Bentley.

I wanted to get things started for dinner tonight, so I put a pound of beans in the crockpot to soak, mixed up some chicken salad for our lunch today and tomorrow, and cut up the lettuce.

At 9:30 Dean dropped me off at a Bible Study I attend when I'm in town.  He'll be back to pick me up in a couple of hours.  As usual, I enjoyed my time there and getting caught up with everyone after being gone for several weeks.

Sure enough, Dean returned at 11:30 to pick me up.  Back at Bentley, I turned the crockpot to high, and added ham hocks, before making our lunch.  Dean chose to have the chicken salad I made earlier today wrapped in a tortilla, and I served mine on a bed of lettuce.  After our lunch, Dean cut up an apple for each of us.

We did absolutely nothing this afternoon.  It's not often we do that and I enjoyed it.  Dean watched TV.  I read emails, played a game on my phone and just enjoyed the downtime.  I may have even rested my eyes for awhile.

By almost 4:00, we had not heard anything from the Chevrolet dealership so Dean called to see how things were going.  I was a bit perturbed that no one had called us when we found out it might be as much as 2 days to 2 weeks before the parts that were needed for the repairs would arrive.  The DEF heater light came on and a module for that needs to be replaced.  It is covered under warranty.  The back passenger side door will not unlock with the remote and it is not covered under the warranty.  I'm not sure why they didn't call to let us know it could take awhile and see if we wanted to pick up the truck or not.  They told Dean it wouldn't be a problem to drive the truck as long as he wasn't doing any long trips or pulling the RV.  We do not plan to drive it except here in Oswego, since we have the car, but it's nice to have both vehicles for convenience if only one of us needs to go somewhere.

As soon as we returned, I cut up some potatoes to fry and mixed up some cornbread to go in the convection oven.  One of our favorite meals is ham and beans, fried potatoes and cornbread.  It's not something we eat much anymore due to the carbs, but it's such a great meal for cold weather.  I was very excited to try the apple butter we won at the Treasure Lake Annual Meeting on the cornbread.  After searching for what seemed like forever, I never did find it.  Yes, you can store something in this small space and later not be able to find it.  It was frustrating.  I must have got up and looked three or four times throughout the evening, convinced I must have overlooked it.

Despite the fact I didn't have quite enough ketchup for my meal (Dean doesn't use it on his ham/beans or potatoes) and we couldn't find the apple butter, the meal was still VERY good.  With the ketchup and apple butter it would have been perfect!  Lol!!

After doing the dishes we watched another Hallmark movie.  It was good, but not as good as the one from a couple of nights ago.  Again, I think I may have been studying the underside of my eyelids for awhile.

Thank you all for following along!
