Friday, November 1, 2019 - What no Heat?; Rushed Morning; Dessert for Tonight; Dinner Out, Followed by Cards

Friday, November 1, 2019 - What no Heat?; Rushed Morning; Dessert for Tonight; Dinner Out, Followed by Cards

I woke up a little before 5, but I laid in bed until 5:10.  I immediately turned the coffeepot on and started to do my exercises when I realized the air coming from the furnace vent was cold.  The heater was running when I went into the bathroom - and it was nice and warm in there.  We both knew we were not out of propane as Dean just refilled the tanks yesterday afternoon.

When Dean got up a short time later, I told him about the furnace.  He went out to check it.  He turned the other tank on and it works fine so we are good.  He realized soon after that, the waste tanks needed to be emptied.  I planned to attend a funeral this morning and wanted to shower.  Waiting for him to finish put me on a pretty tight schedule to get there on time, but I made it in time.

Afterwards, I stopped at the grocery store for a few items for a dessert I am making tonight.  When we are in Oswego, one of us picks a restaurant to have dinner at, then we return to my sister's house to play cards, followed by a dessert.  It's my turn to make the dessert.  I just defrosted the freezer, so I also picked up some meat (pork chops, hamburger and chicken tenders), as our freezer was almost void of it.  Cindy and I chose The 'Lil Cafe in Commerce, OK as our dining site this evening.  They have smoked prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights.  Dean and I used to eat there several years ago when we would would spend the weekend at our RV at Grand Lake.  We haven't been in several years now, so I'm looking forward to it.  I sure hope it's as good as it was in the past.

After I put the groceries away, I started making the dessert.  I reduced the size of the four layer dessert to 1/2 of the normal recipe.  Instead of making the crust myself, I bought a pre-made graham cracker crust at the store....Cindy shared this shortcut with me.  The second layer was - 4 oz. of cream cheese, 1/2 c. powdered sugar and 1/2 c. of cool whip mixed well; 1 pkg of butterscotch pudding and 1.5 cups of milk mixed until thick for the third layer; and last but not least, enough cool whip to put a a nice layer on top, then a sprinkling of chopped pecans.   (Later she told me you can find shortbread pre-made crusts now - so I will definitely try one of those next time I make it).

Dean came home as I was getting ready to put it in the frig to cool until we left.  He played golf this morning.  He wasn't sure he would when he first got up because it was so cold, but it had warmed up quite a bit by 10.  At 3:20 it is 57 degrees outside.  He's not been able to play for several weeks so I'm glad the weather cooperated today.  I just hope it stays around for awhile.

I heated a can of Progresso tomato soup (and added a little cream to it), and it was pretty good.  Dean stuck with his tortilla sandwich.  After dinner, he headed to Chetopa in hopes of a fix for the  furnace.  He returned with a new part from Deryl and he's changing it out now.  Waking up with temperatures below 30 without the furnace running makes for a COLD morning inside.  It only gives us a problem on one of our two propane tanks, so after switching it to the other tank we had heat.  (He just came in and after adding the part he purchased the other tank is now working fine!!!)

Shortly before 4 we headed to Cindy and Elmer's.  We dropped the dessert off at their house, and they rode with us to Commerce, OK for our dinner.  I am happy to report that the smoked prime rib was as good as we remembered.  Cindy also ordered it and thought it was good too, except she wished she had ordered it medium, rather than medium well.  Elmer had chicken fried steak.  He said it and the gravy was very good.  Dean chose the seafood platter.  He said it was okay.  Cindy, Dean and I had their twice baked potatoes.  They are wonderful!  It's a small place but their food is worth a stop.  We always try to get to a restaurant by 5 or shortly before to beat the Friday night rush.

After dinner, we drove back to Cindy and Elmer's for our card came.   We skunked the guys, winning two games out of three.  Woo-hoo!  After the second game, we had our dessert.  It was delicious and so much easier to make with the pre-made crust, and best of all with the smaller version, we don't have lots of leftovers.  We like dessert but I prefer not to have lots of it sitting around, so smaller portions are the only way to go.

After the last game, we visited for another 30 minutes or so before we headed home.  We got ready for bed and then set down to unwind a bit before we called it a night, Dean with the TV and me playing a game on my phone that always seems to put me to sleep.  LOL!
