Spiderman Jaxson
It was COLD this morning - 27 degrees outside and only 60 inside. Funny how 60 in the summer feels so warm and 60 in the winter feels so cold. The sun makes such a difference, doesn't it?
It's hard to believe this is the last day of October and we are only 2 months from seeing the start of a new year.
Well I managed to mark several things off of my To-Do List before 1pm. Shortly after that Dean and I headed to Misti's to give her a hair-cut with Dean's Hair Trimmer. That was quite an experience and we both worked on it but she seemed to be satisfied with the outcome and it saved her several dollars. Then it was Dean's turn and fortunately it didn't take near as long to do his as it did hers! One good thing about not having so much hair!!
A few of my to-do's: I've been trying to build an account with the electric company, Evergy but ran into some trouble. After visiting with a representative, I was able to mark that off the list and we are now set up for automatic payment. Next I requested mail from our mailing service be forwarded to us here in Oswego.
A few days ago we received a mysterious email from son Jarred regarding birthday money, that indicated money to go toward something he bought for his birthday would be okay. I told Dean maybe you better call him. We gave him his birthday card while we were in Branson when they stopped by to visit for a few minutes before they headed back to Wichita after a week's vacation in the area. I was afraid maybe the check we gave him might have slipped out of the envelope when he opened it, and it was lost. We soon found out the message wasn't for us at all, but for his mother-in-law. When Dean asked him about the check we gave him, he said there was not a check in the card. I grabbed the checkbook - yes, I had written it down, but when I looked at the checks, the blank check was still in the checkbook. Who knows when I would have noticed that as I rarely write a check anymore. So, I put the check in the mail today! I always call these "God moments". He knew what I had done and showed me I needed to know about this error. I appreciate those little reminders from him.
While we were in Pittsburg yesterday we checked our mail at UPS - as our service with them ends this month. They will continue to hold our mail for three months after the 7th of November, so we will keep checking it periodically. I was surprised there were several pieces of mail, including a birthday card from my stepbrother Mike. He always sends me the nicest cards. Love you brother! Most of the mail was confirmation of our address change, but a few were things we needed. What was a bit frustrating is the "real" mail addresses were changed in mid-September, but the mailing date on the letters indicated they were mailed in mid-October. That required contacting them to be sure the change had been made in their system. Fortunately they had updated the address, but the call was just another step to be sure. I suppose address changes in large companies takes a little longer than in a town of less than 2,000 people, huh?
Speaking of address changes - Family members and friends who would like to have our new mailing address, please either respond to this post, send me an email OR a text and I'll get it to youas soon as possible. After three months UPS will no longer hold our mail for us.
After finishing up Misti's and Dean's haircuts, I took Dean back to the RV. A short time later I met Misti at the high school where she left her car for Haleigh, so she had a way home after school. We are picking up my grandson Jaxson after school today so we can take him trick or treating in Oswego. I am excited to see him and spend the afternoon and evening with him. When he saw me, his smile was so big. He ran to me and gave me a big hug. Talk about melt your heart!
On the way back to Oswego, him and Misti talked and laughed. I loved hearing them! We took a quick drive through the park, while waiting for Haleigh to get home.

Trees in front of my friend Carol's house. So beautiful. |
We then went to Misti's where Jaxson changed into his Spiderman costume and cape that has a big J on the back for Jaxson. My daughter-in-law's mom, Lou - Mimi to Jaxson - made the cape for him. She is an amazing seamstress.

Perfect timing, there's Haleigh! |
The first house to visit was right here at Misti's. Jaxson wanted to go outside and knock on her door first. So that's what we did. A practice run, I guess.

He loved Misti's costume. He laughed so hard when he saw her, and said you're a gumball machine. That's hilarious!!! |

Pictures from each stop:
Second at his Great great Aunt Patsy's. She was thrilled we stopped by to see her and it was fun to visit with her a bit before we moved on.
Next Aunt Cindy's. At every house, he had to walk around and look at everything. He is such a curious little guy. He told Cindy you have such a beautiful house. It's so pretty! (It really is beautiful and pretty, too) He had us all smiling at his comments.

Flapping his cape...or wings? |
Next Aunt Jody's where he got to pose with Uncle Mark in his hunting costume - well, maybe he was actually going hunting, but it made for a great picture either way.

Since Aunt Crystal wasn't home from work yet, he wanted to stop and see Papa, so we let him knock on the door so he could say Trick or Treat! Papa joined right in and invited him in. We gave him a bag of M and M's. He doesn't like much candy, but fortunately he likes those. We used M&M's when he was learning to walk. We were able to coax him to walk across the room in order to get more of them.

Jax going to see Papa |
One other stop was at Haleigh's friend Abby's house. Some of their friends from school gathered there to hand out candy to Trick or Treater's tonight. Haleigh came out to give Jaxson his treat. I tried to get him to say Trick or Treat, Smell my Feet, Give me something good to Eat, but he told me, I don't like that.

Not sure what that face was about, but they are both pretty darn cute! |
I checked with Aunt Crystal a short while later and she was home, so we headed there where Aunt Misti's mouth was immediately watering over the fresh apple pie Uncle Lonie had just made. Our family, and I'm sure anyone else who's had one of his pies, knows he makes the best pies ever! The crust is the best I've ever had, even better than my Grandma's and my mom's - and theirs was amazing, so that tells you how good they are. Everyone in our family looks forward to one of his pies.

One of the things our kids and our older grandkids loved doing with me (Nana) is going down Snake Road in Oswego. It's a short, but curvy road in town. Jaxson has an interest in snakes so I told him about the road and he wanted to go see it. Well, here's what we do on Snake Road. I drive close to the curve, then turn real quick, reach the next curve, then turn sharp again, and one last final time back the other way. He laughed so hard and said you just made me go way over one way and then the other. He wanted to do it again and again, but after the third time I told him we had to save this for another time when he's here with his sister, or Sissy to him. That satisfied him.
We had driven through the park earlier waiting for Jody to get home. I told him we'd come back later. He wanted to go back to those hills. He was talking about the overlook on the bluff in the park, but when we left Aunt Jody's we first drove over the Neosho River bridge below the bluff. When he saw the dam, he said look, it's a waterfall. We drove down so he could see it close up. Next, he said, let's go to the top so we can look down below. He was just having so much fun with Aunt Misti and Nana.

The cape was great. It was just heavy enough to give him protection from the cool weather during the afternoon. |

Aunt Misti said - put out your arms and run towards me - and be obliged. |
We took a few more pictures at the overlook and then we headed downtown to the Trunk or Treat, where we all got in line to wait for it to start at 6:30.
Misti noticed the Library had a Haunted House. Jaxson was excited to go through it. He loved it until he stepped on a button and a guy jumped out at him. He still enjoyed it, but he was a little more cautious after that. He loved seeing Glenda, the Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch with Dorothy's red shoes on, under the house. What a great job Cody and all of the volunteers did in getting this ready for the kids. It was fun and he was so joyous as we went through it. It's too bad we do not all manage to keep this childlike joy throughout our lives with excitement at every turn. What a wonderful time we had. By the time we finished, the line outside waiting to visit the different stops, was starting to moving quickly. We stopped at several places where he received more treats (most will be shared with Sissy (Kamron), Mom and Dad) since he's not a big candy fan. We didn't make it around the entire area as it was getting late and Jaxson has school tomorrow. We still needed to take him back to Parsons.

My picture didn't come out well, but this was Glenda, the Good Witch. |

There were a couple of these balls. When he touched them it looked like electricity going through the ball. Jaxson loved these. |

My great niece Peyton with her daddy, my nephew Wade. She didn't want to pose for me. |
We left downtown, dropped Aunt Misti at her house, then picked up Papa and headed to Parsons. On the way, Jaxson loved looking out the window using the app "SkyView Free" on my phone to see the stars up close. He loves the planets and stars and can tell you all kinds of things about them. Once in town, we stopped at McDonald's to get him and us something to eat before taking him home. We had a short but nice visit with Marc and Jen. We didn't stay too long since it was getting late.
I have to say this was a very special day that I hope will hold as many memories for Jaxson as it did for Papa, Misti and I.
