We covered alot of ground on Tuesday.
First of all Happy Birthday to our son Brett (Dean's 2nd son)! We hope you had a wonderful day!
Since we have not had breakfast out for awhile we decided today would be a great opportunity. I chose Penny Cluse Cafe in downtown Burlington. (Burlington is the largest city in the state of Vermont, population 42,417.) This was a busy place and we had to look pretty hard for a parking spot. Fortunately we found an easy spot for us to park (that's not always an easy task), about a block and half away, which made for a nice morning walk to the cafe. We had a short wait, before we were taken to our table in an upper loft.

In front of you, down a short flight of stairs, is the kitchen. I think if I worked here I might actually lose weight running up and down the stairs all day! Can you imagine? Talk about strong legs!! |

My wonderful breakfast. 2 corn tortillas with scrambled eggs, avacado crema, black beans, cabbage slaw. It was DELICIOUS! |

Dean chose his normal breakfast (except he went with bacon rather than sausage), 2 over medium eggs, home fries and wheat toast. He said it was really good. |

After breakfast we visited a couple of sites I wanted to stop at here in Burlington before we headed on south.

Our next stop was south of Burlington at the Vermont Flannel Company in Ferrisburg, VT. You may have heard of this company, as it's been around for many years. They have beautiful flannel gifts - flannel shirts, pants, night shirts, house coats, blankets, etc. We enjoyed looking but we did not leave with any purchases.

Dean wanted to go back to Ferrisburg to Dakin Farms. It wasn't that far but it did require retracing our earlier trip. What a neat place this was. I would have loved buying so many things here, but we just don't have that much room. We did leave with a few items, including some maple flavored popcorn, some Maine blueberries and a smokey maple flavoring that is supposed to be really good on boneless chicken thighs. If you are interested in what Dakin Farms has to offer check out their website here. I did take a catalog. We tasted their maple syrup and it was delicious. We liked the least sweet one - Grade 1 or A. The next one Grade 2 or B was also good, but it was a little sweeter.
In nearby Vergennes, we found some beautiful falls.
Another gorgeous barn. |
Leaving the falls, it was still fairly early in the day, so we decided to drive on to Waterbury, VT to visit the Cold Hollow Cider Mill.

Beautiful home in Waterbury |
We walkd through the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. I could not leave without buying 1/2 gallon of apple cider and getting each of us one of their cider doughnuts. We enjoyed looking at all of the displays in their gift shop, and tasting their maple syrup as well. It was also quite good.

A little information on how many apples are needed for cider. |
Our next stop was just a short distance away at the Cabot Creamery Annex. The Creamery had at least a dozen or more types of cheese available for testing, along with a number of jellies, jams and butter. We bought a packed of sliced jack cheese to go with some crackers for snacks.
It was almost 5:00 when we returned to the campground. We were both tired and very hungry. Other than the samples we had at the various "farms, creameries, etc." we had not eaten since breakfast. Dean grilled some hamburgers. I buttered the buns and he placed those on the grill to toast. I added cheese to the burgers before taking them off the grill. What-a-burger! Delicious!!
We were pretty well spent but we did get in an evening walk - which we've been doing here every night.
Tomorrow we have another busy day planned...come back to see what we find to do on our last day in Vermont.
