It was near 11:15am when we left Barber Homestead Park at Westport, NY.
We are moving approximately 80 miles today to Fairfax, VT, which resulted in driving south around Lake Champlain, then back north to Fairfax, via a few NY and VT roads leading to Maple Grove Campground. It's located about 2 miles from Fairfax. It appears most of the sites are for seasonal campers. aIt is very quiet here.

The receptionist at the office told us to pull through Site 1 to Site 11 - however, she didn't mention they were both on the same site - one in front of the other. It was not a big deal but we were pretty confused trying to figure out where Site 11 was. On the map it looks as if they are two seperate sites. Once we figured it out, it was then just a matter of getting level and making sure our dining room slide had enough room so it didn't hit the electric box. After moving a couple of times and adding two-6' deck boards under our tires on the door side we were perfectly level. We have 50 amp service and water, but no sewer hookup. However, we are right next door to the laundromat - so just in case....we can do laundry in a pinch.
We planned to leave Westport, NY about 11. Near that time we started getting some light sprinkles however it didn't rain until we left the campground, and it rained almost the entire way to Maple Grove CG, only letting up a short time before we arrived. We did not have to get ready to leave or set up in the rain and I was extremely thankful for that! God is good!
We decided we needed an afternoon "at home" so we could just relax. It was almost 3:00 by the time we arrived and finished setting up. We ate some lunch, Dean watched a golf game and I started reading a couple of free magazines I downloaded from Amazon Prime. We enjoyed it. Sometimes, we forget to just rest!
When I asked Dean what he wanted for dinner he told me breakfast burritoes. I did not have any tortillas so we drove to Hannarford Supermaket in nearby Milton, VT. What a wonderful supermarket with lots of fresh locally grown produce. We were only going to get tortillas and milk, but we left with a watermelon, Maine grown cauliflower which was BEAUTIFUL, mushrooms, the prettiest green peppers I've seen all summer, a zucchini and a yellow squash. We'll use most of this for dinner tomorrow night.
As we travel I do the research and select most of the things we see and do, although I always go over them with Dean to be sure it is something he will enjoy too. Today, I suggested he look through the information we have on Vermont and pick out a few things he'd like to do. I was surprised he did and I have to admit I was even more surprised when he showed me a picture of a place called "Basketville - Handcrafted Items for the Home." What is going on? Then he told me the store is an old barn and that's what he is interested in looking at.
I wanted to give an update on our new mattress. We have adjusted really well and we both are very satisfied with it. We have also adjusted to sleeping on our pillows, which seemed like they were in a hole after we got the new mattress. I guess our bodies just had to readjust to laying flat on the mattress rather than having a large indentation to sink into.
This morning after I changed the sheets on the bed I washed the ones I took off. Since we will be traveling and they were not quite dry I hung them in the shower on pant hangars. I was afraid they would slide back and forth while we traveled, and it might cause them to fall; so I asked Dean if he had anything that I could clip on the shower rod to keep that from happening. He came up with this great idea. Our daughter-in-law Andrea bought these for us several years ago. We have used them for so many things over the years and now we can add another use to the list. Thanks Andrea!

Here are a few pictures I took as we drove the 80 miles from our campground in New York to the one in Vermont:
A quite large, older three story house! Very beautiful.
Champlain Memorial Lighthouse at Crown Point Historic Park in NY.
Windmills are another thing I love seeing in a field.

I spotted this "two hump" camel in a field.
For a minute I thought we were back in Kansas!
Very interesting fire hydrant art!
It has been a good day! Hope yours has been too!

I never seem to have a hard time 'resting'. I'm a lazy bum! haha
ReplyDeleteNow you are enjoying some time in Vermont, the campground sounds nice and you have a nice site. Very rarely do i get just that one thing at a grocers, Bill does better than me. He only gets what he went for.
Love the flamingo hangers and the fire hydrant art. :)
Oh I rest - well, actually, I just fall asleep - reading, writing, and I just nod off. Haha!
DeleteI'm really not very good at getting just the speicific things I go to the grocery store for most of the time, but I am really trying to keep our grocery/dining out expense within the budget we have set for ourselves, plus I am really trying to lose some weight. So hard to do---especially when we keep finding all this good food everywhere we go. I'm trying to cook more so we aren't tempted with all of it!
Those flamingo clamps are one of the best gifts we've had - simple but oh so handy!
