Sunday, January 7, 2018 - Back to Walking; Amazing Omeletes; Don-Wes and Checking out the area

Sunday, January 7, 2018 - Back to Walking; Amazing Omeletes; Don-Wes and Sunday Sundaes.

We were determined to begin walking again today.  It's been three weeks since we've walked due to the colder weather, doctor appointments, holiday activities, and our early morning travels to head south, so we need to get started again.  We walked 1.24 miles this morning.  My left calf started hurting and I had to stop earlier than I wanted, so tomorrow we'll take it a little slower and work into it.

Pool area, that includes a hot tub.

On our walk this morning looking east.

Walking from our rig, heading west.

After showers and getting things picked up and put away, we waited for Dennis and Pam to pick us up.  We are going to Victoria Palms in Donna, Texas.  They have a breakfast buffet that includes made to order omelettes and waffles, as well as a full buffet of breakfast items.  It was very busy this morning when we arrived, much busier than normal according to Dennis and Pam.  Once we were seated Pam and I headed directly to the omelette line where we waited for awhile before finally giving our order to the chef.  I chose 3 meats (ham, sausage and bacon), green peppers and jalepenos with cheese.  It was fun watching the "omelette master" as he handled five pans at once, moving them down the burners as they were finished and placed on a plate, to keep them in line with those of us waiting for our food.  He loved visiting with the customers.

Story about Dave Roundtree, the omelette maker

Five burners going all the time.

I really wanted a waffle too, but by the time we were through the omelette line I was not willing to wait in another line that had now grown quite long, so I moved right on to the buffet where I added some bacon slices, a few hash browns, biscuit and gravy, and a small bowl of yogurt and granola.

My omelette was absolutely delicious - by far the best one I've ever had.  It was so light but full of ingredients and bursting with flavor.  The buffet food was also good, but I would definitely return for the omelette alone!

Our next stop was at Don-Wes, a large flea market nearby.  We walked through several buildings and many outside venues full of all types of wares, clothes, tools, fabric, food items, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, RV items, kitchen items, purses, etc.  We couldn't pass up some chocolate covered peanuts at the nut house, some cheese curds and summer sausage, and some oranges, pineapple and carrots.

As we drove to Victoria Palms Dennis and Pam mentioned several places they liked to eat at - and they all sound delicious.  We are going to have to be sure to share our meals when dining out, and increase our walking time to keep from gaining weight while we are here!!!

Since we were near some of our Escapee friends, Olen and Cathy's place, Pam called to see if they were home and if we could stop by for a few minutes.  Sure enough they were and we invaded their small living area to visit for 15-20 minutes.  Cathy is going to be giving a class on how to make rag rugs at Dennis and Pam's RV Park this Wednesday, and Pam wanted to visit with her about it.  I'm going to attend.  I'm not much of a crafty person but I do love these rugs, so I'm going to give it a try.  Olen showed Dean some of the woodwork he does to make bowls and baskets.  Dean was really intrigued.  It might be something he'd like to do if he gets the chance.

We headed back to our RV Park, and Pam noticed a sign saying there was an open house at Retama Village and suggested we drive through.  It was just a short distance on down the road from our park. To see what they have to offer, click on Retama Village.  It was a beautiful place, but out of our price range.  We just did a quick drive through and then they dropped us off at our RV.

We put away our purchases and rested awhile.  Dean watched some TV and I was caught up on my blog reading.  Later we decided to get out and walk again.  We managed to walk a whole total of .41 miles - but we stopped a few times along the way to visit.  While visiting with one couple, they asked if we were coming up for ice cream and cake this evening at the clubhouse.  I guess we've been too busy to check the calendar because we didn't know about this event.  It was only 30 minutes before they started serving so we headed back to the rig.  It was cooling down and I wanted to grab a jacket.  We walked up to the clubhouse shortly before 6 where they were serving two types of ice cream and had a selection of cakes/brownies for us to choose from.  It was all quite good and we had a nice visit with the couple (Ken and Sherry) who told us about the event, as well as a couple of other gentlemen (Bernie & ?) who set at our table.  I can't remember the other gentlemen's name.  I need to carry the list of people in the park and their site number with me so I can note who I've met.  Maybe I could remember everyone's names better that way.  When I looked at  our calendar later, come to find out the first Sunday of the month is Sunday Sundaes at the Clubhouse!

Several people were staying to play games, and while we enjoy them we were both ready to go back to the rig.  I took this picture on the way back.

Once we returned, we set down to watch some TV, but I could not keep my eyes open and at 9:00 I finally told Dean I was going to bed.  We've got more plans for tomorrow.  Stay tuned.
