August 12, 2021 - Whoops! Early Birthday Wishes; Great Salt Lake & Antelope Island; Dean the Furniture Man
I was awake at 5:30 and even though I tried to close my eyes and think sleepy thoughts, my mind was running wild, so I gave in and got up.
I made the coffee and was enjoying my first cup when I heard Dean moving around upstairs. He joined me while I finished up the blog post from yesterday. I wanted to get it posted before we leave this morning.
I made our morning shakes and after Dean had his, he pushed the button on the side of the chair to lower the foot of the chair and it did not work. I should have taken a picture of it but at the time I didn't think of it. He pulled the chair out and I checked to make sure it had not come unplugged at the back of the chair or in the outlet. Both were fine. What a way to start the day.
While I was getting ready, he pulled the chair out, and turned it on its side. He began taking the motor portion apart to see what it would entail to repair it. We aren't sure if the switch is bad, or the motor has quit working. We had to leave it until later.
I was looking at Facebook before we left and noticed that my daughter, my son and my daughter-in-law all wished Kamron a Happy Birthday today. What? How did I mess her birthdate up? I could not believe it. I was telling Dean about it when I remembered a few weeks ago I noticed both Matt and Kamron's birthdays were showing over a two day period, rather than their actual birthdate. I must have put Kamron's on the wrong date and didn't realize it wasn't the right day. You'd think I could remember her birthday, but I didn't give it a thought! Silly Nana! Anyway, I sent her a note apologizing for the error....and she was so sweet and kind about it. She is a sweetheart! And then I wished her another wonderful day for her real birthday!
We left the RV Park shortly before 10 and headed north to Antelope Island at the Great Salt Lake. Despite the fact we were on busy Interstates the drive went well, other than a couple of detours.

With the sun hitting the water it was pretty this morning.

The sky was so bright and clear this morning (it's been very overcast/smokey) that I couldn't resist this picture with all of the green foliage.
We made a stop at the Antelope Island park entrance where I took this picture. This is representative of the bison on the island.

The sun made it hard to get good pictures.
We stopped at the park entrance to pay our $10 fee and then drove the 7.2 miles on the causeway to Antelope Island. We were surprised to see there was hardly any water as we made our way to the Island.

Other than a few little spots of water it was sand and grass. It appeared the water that was there was very, very shallow. The birds were standing, rather than floating.
Shortly before we reached the island we were able to see some water.

Bottom left - small islands of grass in the shallow water.
Bottom right - these are boat docks - sitting in the sand.
We stopped at Ladyfinger Point Trail where I took the pictures below.
We drove more of the park but it was a lot of the same. To get to the beach it required walking quite a distance to reach the water, more than I was willing to walk. There were only a handful of people on the beach.
We left Antelope Island, for our next stop at Sam's Club for a few things. By the time we left we were both hungry. Unfortunately, the road construction by Sam's was so bogged up with traffic that we found it difficult getting to a place. We finally just pulled into an I-Hop a block or two away. While it is not one of my favorite places to eat, we could get in and out of their driveway easily.
Fortunately, the food was pretty good, and their iced tea was VERY good. Dean ordered breakfast. I had a cheeseburger and french fries. The fries were very good - a perfect crispiness to them.
Returning to Coalville, we made a quick stop at the RV, then headed to the local grocery store. I wanted to get some hamburger and a few groceries. I was expecting more than I should have from the store. We left with only two items, and neither were on my list.
Dean wasted no time working on his chair when we returned. He at least got it closed up so he is able to sit in it, although without his feet up. We weren't sure how well it might fit with the slides in. He's now using one of our fold-able stools to prop his feet on, but he has his chair.
When he finished, we stepped outside to see the sunset, but we had missed it. I took a picture of Bentley in our site. I noticed the site behind us was empty, so I took a picture of the concrete pads. We've only seen something like this in a few state parks. I am not a big fan, especially in our site. There was a metal rod about 5' tall to the right front of our site making it difficult to get the rig in and I'm thankful I won't be backing the truck up to the hitch tomorrow morning, like I often do.
Tomorrow we will head further south where we will stop for three days.

Got to love the landmines parks put in places to, I'm guessing, make it more challenging to get in a spot. We are starting our way out of Wyoming tomorrow and at some point stopping in Ogallala Nebraska were we wanted a spot on the water at the state park. They said the lake is so far down in water level that it could be a 3/4 mile walk to get to water. The banks are dry and partial mud. Staying in town.
ReplyDeleteGood you guys have a place back in Kansas to fix everything that seems to break so often. My list is long also. I'll be interested in how the chair is repaired as I suspect we will have the same issue someday.
Be safe,,
We stayed at Ogallala in May 2015 with our two oldest grandsons. We were at Lake McConaughy. We walked down to the beach of white sand from our site, where we were backed up to a a place we could walk down behind us. It was so pretty. We noticed shortages of water in many areas this year. It's too bad you didn't get to experience the beauty of the lake.
DeleteI'm a little surprised the chair switch broke so quickly. We've had the chairs about 3 years. Dean's done a little of his own engineering to tie wrap them up so he can put his feet up, and undo them when we pack up to leave. There's always a way...right?
