Friday & Saturday, March 19 & 20, 2021 - Family Time in Wichita
We left Oswego at 9:00am this morning, headed to All Season RV Park in Goddard, KS. Goddard, is immediately adjacent to the west side of Wichita. Now that 400 through Wichita has been totally reconstructed, providing three lanes of traffic that starts near Andover and goes to the far west side of Wichita, now makes traveling through Wichita a breeze.
We typically make two steps on our way out - at Fredonia, KS and again at the Rest Stop near Beaumont, KS, and we followed that plan today. The Fredonia convenience store located right along 400 Highway is always busy. Fortunately, they have a large parking area where we can pull in and use our own facilities if we need a bathroom break, which we did. Sometimes we go into the store or the Subway that is attached to the store, for a snack or a sandwich, but not today. We wanted to get to the RV Park and get set up as soon as we could.
At our last rest stop near Beaumont, we walked to the back of the park area to take a few pictures of the Flint Hills from a different perspective than what we see driving down the highway.
It was 12:33pm when we pulled into our spot and started setting up. Once we had the slides out, and things in place, we had a quick lunch. We headed to Heath & Casey's soon afterwards to pick up their boys, Abram, Gideon & Roman. They are staying the night with us. After we pick them up, we are going bowling. We were having so much fun bowling I failed to get many pictures and I feel bad about that. |
Dean was the big winner and his final score was 131. When I took a picture of the final score, bowling pins were in front of the score and I didn't realize it until later. |
 |
I didn't do a good job of taking pictures, so here's a photo of Abram (left) and Gideon (right) at our Christmas with the kids. I think Gideon has grown several inches since this picture. |

After bowling, we stopped at McDonald's to get something to drink. Dean doesn't like to take the truck through the drive-thru, so the boys and I headed to the door to order and bring them out. The door was locked. A gentleman sitting in his car, said the door to the right was open, so we went down there, but it too was locked. As we walked back toward the truck, the gentlemen apologized. He had dropped his wife off earlier this morning to work. He said people were coming and going getting breakfast, so he assumed it would be open. Dean drove us through and all was fine. We went back to the RV to bring all of their clothes and bedding inside. We visited for an hour or two before heading to Logan's for dinner. Again, I failed to take pictures. I'm so irritated with myself. Those boys love the rolls at Logan's. I can't remember if they brought 2 or 3 baskets of them. Our meals were very good. We had a good time at dinner visiting with each other.
After dinner we returned to the RV. We watched a couple of movies - I don't know what they were watching as I was playing a couple of games on my phone. I'm not much of a TV watcher, but we all visited back and forth throughout the evening. We got out are large blow-up mattress for Gideon and Roman to sleep on, and Abram slept on the couch.
I woke up about 5:45 but stayed in bed until almost 6:30 before going downstairs to turn on the coffeepot. Evidently it did not wake the boys, as after we had our two cups of coffee, they were still asleep. By then it was almost 8-8:15, so we got the boys up. Dean and Abram left for Lamar's for doughnuts, apple fritters and some chocolate milk. While they were gone, Gideon and Roman helped me take the large blow-up mattress down. With it up, there was no room to move in the living area.
Dean and Abram returned about 40 minutes later, and we were all digging into our sweet treats. We had apple turnovers, double chocolate doughnuts, and regular doughnuts. I think there might have been one other item but I can't remember now what that was.
We loaded their stuff up, and headed to Heath & Casey's about 9:30-10:00, where we visited with them for awhile before we left. They have some errands to run today. Our next stop was at Best Buy to look for a printer. That was a total waste of time as they had very little in stock and nothing like we wanted. It looks like we will probably be ordering one through the internet, but Heath gave us a suggestion on something to check first. Dean will probably be working on that. He's so much more patient than I am when it comes to this type of project.
We made one last stop before returning to Bentley. I needed to get a birthday card for Emerson's party tonight at Andrea's parents house. After taking care of that we stopped at Bentley long enough to eat a sandwich and rest for an hour or so. Dean wanted to drive out to Lake Cheney to check out camping spots.

I loved the way this tree looked against the blue sky. |

I told Dean I wanted to be back by 4, and we arrived back at Bentley almost on the dot. We are going to Emerson's birthday party this evening, and I wanted to shower before we left. Showering is quick, drying and straightening my hair is not.
We left at 5:40, and arrived at Andrea's parents house (Bill & Diane) right at 6. Jarred helps with the Saturday evening service at their church where he is Connections Pastor, so he didn't arrive until a little after 6. They were putting the food out when Dean and I arrived. They catered food from Molina's, a Mexican restaurant in the area. It's one of the first places we went to eat dinner with Andrea, Jarred and Andrea's parents several years ago. Tonight's food was great. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it, so we may have to visit again next time we are in Wichita.
We enjoyed watching Emerson, her sister Hayden and their cousins Colin and newest member of the family Hazel, who is just 3 months old. Emerson turned 6 on Friday, but her party is this evening so all of her family could be there. It was good to visit with Andrea's family during our visit as well.

The cake was very good. We stayed and visited with Jarred and others for awhile before we headed back to Bentley. What fun we've had these two days here in Wichita with the five grandkids here. We enjoyed the time with them and look forward to making more memories in the next month or so, as we head into more sport activities.
