Monday, March 8, 2021 - Moving to Idle Hour RV Park, Altamont, Kansas
All of the sightseeing we did the last few days must have worn me out. It was almost 5:30 before I woke up this morning. It was much warmer this morning, somewhere in the mid 50's. I still had to turn the furnace up, but not as much as we have been.
When Dean got up a short time later, he said I think we just need to go back home rather than staying here another day, or trying to find someplace else to stay for several days. I agreed with him, so after our shake, we started packing things up.
I could hear planes flying around the park, rising up and then coming down quickly. When I had all my work done inside, I came outside to find this plane! I tired several time taking pictures but he was elusive - he'd dip behind a tree, or drop so quickly he would disappear behind the hill across the river from us. Finally I got a half way decent shot right before we hitched up the truck to leave the park.

| See that little white speck in the middle - that was the plane that was diving and going up and up and diving again. When I looked at the pictures earlier I didn't think I got it - but there it is, I did it! |

To the right side, of the tree to the right, you can see the plane getting ready to drop behind the treeline. It was fun watching them.
It was 10:13am when we pulled out of Great Salt Plains State Park and headed north toward the Kansas border. It was approximately 11:20 when we passed into Kansas near Arkansas City. I couldn't help but take these pictures of our drive and the great big beautiful sky here in Kansas.

I love the countryside and that beautiful sky overhead. It was a bit windy today, but it was not a problem for my driver.
We decided to stay in Altamont at Idle Hour RV Park for 10 days. Part of that is to spend time with Marc, Jen and the kids. We are going to drive to Wichita early Saturday morning to watch grandson Roman play basketball - his last game of this year's season. We'll drive back after his game. We'll stay in Altamont for a few more days until we take Bentley with us to Wichita again the following weekend to help celebrate Emerson's birthday and to spend time with the grandson's. When we return from Wichita, we'll head back to Oswego.
After we set up, we drove to Oswego. Dean needed to get some parts for the water hookup outside from the hardware store, and I wanted to get my car while we were there. He stayed at the garage to gather up a few things, and I returned to Altamont. I talked to Marc later and asked him about picking Jaxson up at school tomorrow, so I will be doing that. I told him not to let Jaxson know so I could surprise him. Of course, when I take him home I'll see Kamron as well. I went by Haleigh's while I was in Oswego but she wasn't home. She was most likely working. Before I pick Jaxson up I'll stop at the grocery store tomorrow to get a few things we need and hopefully I'll catch her then.
We were both tired so I called an order into MJ's Burgers in Altamont. They make amazing cheeseburgers and homemade fries. We ate too much, but they were good. I need to walk tomorrow!!!
Good night all.
Can't say as I blame you for being tired whew! Those burgers and fries sound yummy! It sounds like you're still going to be very busy, but the fun kind of busy! Grandkids! That was beautiful countryside on the drive! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAs a forethought, I get confused easily so when you said you were going 'home', that's not what happened? Ha ha, sorry! The talk about back and forth tired me out so you will do well actually doing all that driving. Perhaps it would help if I knew the distance between Wichita, Oswego and Altamount. :D You're having fun anyway!!
ReplyDeleteHome is Oswego for the past 51 years, Altamont (where son Marc lives) is 10 miles west of Oswego, and Wichita is about 150 miles west of Oswego. Dean has two boys in Wichita so we are out there fairly often. Sorry for the confusion. Yes we are having fun.
DeleteNice views on your journey. Great to be able to camp near family for a visit.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Many people do not travel Kansas, but there is so much beauty here and so much difference in various parts of the state.
