Thursday, March 18, 2021 - Breakfast at Lacy's; and Preparing to Move

Thursday, March 18, 2021 - Breakfast at Lacy's; and Preparing to Move

I woke up to some strong winds and rain this morning.  I headed downstairs to make the coffee.  It wasn't too long after it was ready Dean came downstairs.  He looked out the window and said it snowed.  Thank goodness it wasn't much.  I'm surprised with the rain that we could even tell it snowed.  It didn't last long.  I managed to get this picture of some that was left on the car windshield as we left for breakfast.  Dean wanted to have breakfast at Lacy's this morning.  He misses them, and so do I.

We enjoyed visiting with Betty, Jerry & Carol.  They follow our blog so they knew about the trials we had during the snow and ice in Texas.  Jerry & Carol have RV'd for several years.  It's good to visit with other RVer's.  We can learn quite a bit from each other.

There was no snow on the ground, but some remained on the front window of the car.

When we returned to Bentley, I had a list of things I was hoping to accomplish today.  Dean and I are hosting the first campout of the year for our Escapees group at Cedar Oaks RV Park in Grove.  It is scheduled for the third week of April, so this morning was spent working on information to post to our group camping page, after talking to our President Alvin.  I think we will have a fun, full three days and we are looking forward to seeing everyone after this cold winter we've had.

My friend Drena suggested I try cleaning the print head on our printer, after reading my comments about our printer not working.  I did that, but unfortunately it didn't help.  I can make a copy of something and it prints fine, but it will not print a document sent to the printer from either of our Chromebooks, or from our old computers.  Dean spent a good part of the day trying to do just that.  For some reason it has just quit.  We will bite the bullet and purchase a new one.  He did quite a bit of research on printers for Chromebooks, and found one that is compatible; and it happens to be one that I was looking at.  We'll see!

I needed to clean the washing machine, so I started that process.  The cleaning process goes through 3 complete cycles.  It takes about 1.5-2 hours for each cycle, and it should be done once a month.  I finally finished all three cycles, in between phone calls, lunch, dinner and working on other things.

Dean emptied our tanks this morning, put diesel in the truck, and got everything ready for our move tomorrow.  We plan to pick up Heath's boys around 1pm, assuming we are able to leave on time.  We plan to go bowling, and then we'll take them to dinner later - their choice if they can all agree.  If not, we may draw names from Papa's hat. LOL!  We'll leave it up to them if they want to stay the night with us or not. Just in case, we are taking the blow-up mattress.  We are sure looking forward to spending some quality time with them.  The grand kids are all growing up so fast, we need to take time to enjoy them now.

It's been a busy, but quiet day.

Thank you for the comments on the blog and Facebook.  I love hearing from you.

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 - Happy St. Patrick's Day---Whoops forgot to wear my green; Change in Travel Plans for the Weekend; Quick Trip to Joplin--What Printer to Buy?; Visit with Stepdad & Verna; Rain, Rain & More Rain

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 - Happy St. Patrick's Day ---Whoops, I forgot to wear my Green; Change in Travel Plans for the Weekend; Quick Trip to Joplin--What Printer to Buy?; Visit with Stepdad & Verna; Rain, Rain & More Rain

Well, Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you - I didn't think about it at all until we were on our way to Joplin, so I didn't wear green.  In fact I'm not sure I even have anything green.  I'm so glad I'm not back in school, when you would get pinched if you weren't wearing something green.  Some of the boys could pinch pretty hard too.  Lol!

The weather forecasts for this weekend are changing our travel plans.  Our original plans were to leave Oswego Thursday morning at 9 and stay in Wichita until Monday morning.  However, weather has changed our minds.  We will now drive out Friday morning.  Thursday's forecast is calling for strong winds NNW.  We would prefer not to drive in that, when much of 400 Highway is along large open areas, and we will be pulling the RV.  Monday's forecast for Wichita is rain - up to 80% chance with possible higher wind gusts.  Friday and Saturday forecasts are good, so we will arrive around noon on Friday and leave Sunday morning.

You might remember in yesterday's post I mentioned our printer quit working.  I spent time yesterday evening and early this morning researching issues that might be causing it.  Apparently our printer no longer works with our Chromebooks.  Dean's was not compatible with it when we bought it.  I've had my Chromebook for at least 2, maybe 3 years and it has worked fine, but March 16 it no longer works.  It says the printer is out of color ink.  I put a brand new cartridge in and it still will not work.  We've had it for over six years, and it has served us well, so maybe it's time to move on.  Since we needed to go to Sam's in Joplin, we also made stops at Office Depot and Best Buy to look at printers.  After talking to one of the salesmen at Best Buy we might be better off ordering what we want online.  None of the stores have one that best fits our needs. I think we have decided on what printer we want, so while we are in Wichita, we will check a couple of places to see if we can buy it there.  If not, we'll order it when we return to Oswego.

We made a stop at Sam's to collect our "rewards" from using our Sam's card to purchase fuel, gas and a few food products in 2020.  It's been a good savings for us over the years.  We had a quick meal at Steak & Shake, one of Dean's favorite places.  Their burgers and fries are really good, and so is the sweet tea.  I wanted to stop to see my step-dad Larry, and his wife Verna.  We haven't seen them since the first of the year.  We had a great visit - we always do.  Time seems to just fly by.

On our way back to Oswego, I told Dean if we used our Sonic app to place an order, we could purchase Sonic Blasts for 1/2 price.  He was all for that.  I placed our order and set a time for us to arrive at 3:35.  We arrived on the dot.  I guess they wait for you to arrive before they make it, since they did not have it ready at our allotted time.  LOL!  I chose the Reese's peanut butter cup and Dean got the Snickers candy bar.  I can tell you if it had not been for the 1/2 price we never would have bought one.  Almost 6$ for just 1!!!  They were worth 2 blasts for $6, but not $12.

We barely made it in the door of Bentley when the first rain drops started.  It was 4pm when we arrived, and it continued until a little after 9pm.

I still have a list of things to do tomorrow, plus I'll do as much prep for our move as I can, so we can leave by 8:30am Friday, planning to arrive at the RV Park by noon.  We are looking forward to spending the afternoon/evening with Abram, Gideon and Roman.  Saturday evening we will attend Emerson's 6th birthday party.  It will be another fun weekend with our Wichita grandchildren.  Next week we hope to spend some time with the southeast Kansas grandchildren over their spring breaks.

Friday, March 12-16, 2021 - Catch Up

Friday, March 12, 2021 - Late Night Problem; Happy Birthday Misti Dawn Blair (on a rainy morning); Change in Plans; Seeking Help; Quiet Evening at Home

After we returned from having dinner with Misti and Haleigh Thursday, March 11, we returned to the RV at Altamont Lake.  I was working on the blog post and Dean was watching TV when we started hearing this obnoxious beep.  We soon realized it was coming from the refrigerator.  There was an error code flashing, "LI" "oP".  Our refrigerator manual said it was "High Temp Limit Switch Open".  We turned the refrigerator on and off (by the way it was almost 10pm when this occurred).  It would be okay for a few seconds and the beeping would start up again.  I noticed our thermometer that relays the temperatures for the freezer and refrigerator was showing much warmer temperatures than normal, so we shut the refrigerator off.  We can't call anyone at this time of night, and we have a refrigerator/freezer full of food - now what to do?  I have two plastic tubs under the bed that I keep extra clothes in, and miscellaneous items in the other.  We emptied all of the items from the tubs and filled them with food from the refrigerator.  We have two large cold storage bags (one for each vehicle) that we use when buying frozen items - to keep things cool until we return to the RV.  We packed all of the frozen items in the two bags.  It was nearly 11:00pm when we headed to Oswego to put them in our refrigerator/freezer  in our garage.  I am so glad we decided to keep this refrigerator.  It took some special packing to get everything in to the small frig/freezer, but we did it.  It was midnight by the time we returned to Bentley.  We were both exhausted!

Happy birthday to my first born, my beautiful daughter Misti Dawn.  I may have related this story before, but I love it, so I'm going to share it again.  When she was born, her Grandpa Blair (her dad's father) joined his friends at the coffee shop that morning and was telling them that we had our baby.  They wanted to know what we named her.  He said I can't remember but it was something like "Rainy Morning".  It WAS a misty morning and she was born a short time before dawn - however, her name had been picked out for quite awhile before she arrived.  I love the story and how the day fit with her arrival.  And today was another "rainy morning".

Dean had a hearing aid appointment this morning in Pittsburg, for an adjustment.  He left early so he could make a quick stop at Home Depot.

I called the City of Altamont and explained our problem with the refrigerator, and we needed to move to Oswego where we had access to our refrigerator/freezer for food.  They were very nice and will be issuing us a refund for the remaining days.  Todd had sites available, so when Dean returns from his appointment we will move to Oswego.

In the meantime I called our dealer, Chetopa RV to see if they might be able to look at the RV but they were backed up on repairs.  They suggested we try Coachlight in Carthage as they work on Norcold products.  They could not look at it due to the amount of work they had.  I was at a loss of who to call, when I remembered the RV place we stopped at in Muskogee.  It was a long shot, but I called them.  Earl told me what he suspected the problem was and told me how we could probably fix it.  One of the RV dealers I talked to (I don't remember which one) asked me if we had any heavy rain that might have blown into the bottom vent?  Since we were in Joplin most of the day I wasn't sure if it had or not.  While waiting for Dean to return, I watched a You Tube video on the code that showed up on our refrigerator.   In the video, the couple who made it found water inside the back of the refrigerator.  The steps Earl provided us were a repeat of what this couple did.  When Dean returned home, I told him what I had learned.  He opened the compartment and we did have some water in the area.  He followed the steps Earl gave me.  We waited a short while and turned the refrigerator back on and sure enough it started running again.  As of 8:00pm both the freezer and the refrigerator are now within normal temperature.

Needless to say we had a major change in plans and the toilet did not get installed today.  Before Dean returned from Pittsburg, I had most of the rig packed up and ready to go.  Once he was done with the refrigerator issue, I finished the last few things and pulled the slides in.  Dean told me to go on to Oswego and select a site, he'd be there shortly.  I had called Todd to make sure he had a spot for us, and he did.  We will be on the south side, the area we prefer, where we can look out the back window of our rig onto a large grassy area, with trees beyond that.  We can also view some beautiful sunsets from here as well.  A light rain started as we were finishing up in Altamont.  When Dean arrived in Oswego at the park, the rain increased a little but it wasn't too bad.  Once everything was done, we headed to the garage to get enough food for lunch and dinner tonight.  We stopped at the grocery store on the way back, to buy a bag of ice.  I put 1/3 in the freezer, and the rest in the refrigerator to help cool the inside.  We are so thankful this was not a serious problem.  God is so good!

Before heading back to the RV Park, we also stopped to pick up our mail at the Post Office in Oswego.

Later this afternoon Dean took one of our propane bottles to Bartlett Co-op to have it filled. While we probably have enough for the weekend, we know when one tank is empty and it's still cold - don't wait, go get that empty one filled - just in case.  We are glad we did that in Texas, or we would have had some really cold nights!  It was good to see my cousin Randy and visit for a few minutes.

So it has been quite a day, but we are in good shape.  It's raining now and the forecast says we'll have rain over the next few days as well.

Saturday, March 13, 2021 - Morning Work, Quick Trip to Wichita, Lunch with Jarred & Family, Basketball with Heath & Family, Quick Trip back to Oswego.

I was not up as early as I wanted to be this morning and had much to do.  We are leaving at 9:30 to head to Wichita to watch grandson Roman play his last basketball game of this season.  Yesterday evening we received good news from his dad Heath, that the game had been changed to 3:30pm, rather than the 8:00am game originally scheduled.  It would have meant leaving Oswego at 4:30am to arrive in Wichita before 8:00am.  We were so relieved after the last couple of crazy days.

Before we left, I decided to defrost and clean the refrigerator/freezer.  We wanted to get the food back in it tomorrow if we could.  I wondered why I didn't think to do this sooner, but I guess we wanted to make sure the refrigerator was going to work okay.  I hated to not take advantage of a chance to clean it before returning the food.  By the time I was finished I was running to make sure we left on time.

It was a rainy, foggy and cloudy day.

Heavy rains overnight caused the river to overflow into areas along Montana Road in Labette County, KS.

We ran into thick fog around Beaumont, KS

Fortunately we never had any heavy rain.  It made for a pretty drive today.  It changes the whole landscape in this type of weather.

Driving in to Wichita, KS.  I love the design of the walls along Highway 400 through Wichita.  It's so nice that it is open all the way through town now, except for a small amount of construction toward the west side of town.

We planned to see Jarred, Andrea and their girls Emerson and Hayden before the basketball game. Since we would arrive around 12:30, we both ordered meals from Rib Crib.  Dean and I picked them up at one just a short distance from their home.  We had a really nice visit with them.  Emerson wanted me to go play with her, so down to her room we headed.  She showed me all her dolls, moved things around in her room and chattered most of the time.  She is a cutie!  Soon everyone else came downstairs.  We enjoyed watching Emerson and Hayden playing together.  Emerson is such a good, big sister.

Hayden - 9 mos.

Emerson - soon to be 6!

We left their house about 2:15 as it's just a short distance to the Y from Jarred's house.  We met Heath & Casey there.  They brought lawn chairs for us to set in - as they have taken all of the bleachers out due to Covid.  Only 4 people per family can attend a game.

Wichita Y

We thought Roman did a good job and we enjoyed having the opportunity to be there.

Roman is #13

It was about 3:30 when they finished and we wanted to get home before it was too late.  It's been a busy two days.  With foggy/wet weather you can see interesting clouds and countryside.  We enjoyed the changes as we made our way home.

Thanks for following along.  It was another busy day for us, but we enjoyed it!

Sunday, March 14, 2021 - Rain, Rain & More Rain; Church; No Sisterfest; Bringing Food Back to Bentley; and Laundry

I woke up this morning to a heavy rain.  For those of you who are in RV's, you know how loud the rain sounds on the roof, but I often find it kind of comforting too, knowing I'm inside where it is warm and cozy on a dreary morning like this one.

The refrigerator was working great this morning.  We didn't have anything to eat for breakfast so Dean went to Casey's for breakfast sandwiches for each of us.  While he was gone granddaughter Logen called Papa on his phone - which he left behind - so I got to talk to her.  She's so cute and has the sweetest little laugh.  I talked to her and Brett until Dean arrived.  We heard Jameson trying to let us know he was there too, and Emilee was on the line as well, so it was good to hear from all of them.

After our phone call, I got ready for church.  My sisters and I were supposed to meet at Cindy's after church today for our first Sisterfest since we left the first of February.  However, Cindy's daughter Melissa invited her and Elmer, and sister Nikki and family to their house in Nevada, MO for a birthday dinner.  Her birthday is tomorrow.  That will be really nice for all of them and I'm glad they did this for her.

While I was gone to church Dean removed our old toilet and planned to install the new one.  He was just getting ready to install the new one when I returned.   I told him if he didn't mind I'd like to clean the floor and walls really good before he installed it, making it much easier to clean around it after it's installed.  It didn't take me too long, and just a short time later he finished up.

Once he had cleaned up, we headed to the garage to bring all of our food back to the refrigerator.  We were surprised to find the freezer door was not shut tight and some of the items had started to defrost.  We may have had it a bit too full.  Only one package of meat was entirely defrosted.  It was still very cold, so I fixed it for our dinner tonight.  None of the other meat was defrosted at all - it was at the back, but some fruit, chicken and beef broth I had was partly thawed.  I'll have to make something with those right away.  I checked online and they said it would be okay, but the taste might not be as good.  So far we have not noticed that.

I sure was glad I took the time to clean the refrigerator and defrost the freezer before we brought all of the food back.

I fixed us a sandwich after we returned.  I spent the rest of the day doing laundry, and trying to get things straightened up after all of the chaos we've had over the past few days.  It has been a crazy three days.

About 6:30 this evening we decided to take a ride around the area.

As we leave the RV Park - you can see all of the water standing.

With all of the rain we enjoy getting out once it has stopped to see how high the water is on the Neosho River.  First we went west of Oswego to one of the creeks but it wasn't out as bad as we expected.  Next we drove to our city park to the overlook to see how the river looked from above.

As we drove over the Neosho River bridge north of the City Park - the park is on the bluff above.

Taken in the small park along the river north of the park.  The river has started rising into the park.

When the water is at normal level, the concrete step you see, goes down several steps to a landing.  It's all underwater.

The river was definitely coming up.  We drove on down to the small park across the river and I took a few pictures (above).  Our next stop was driving to Chetopa to the river.

Neosho River at Chetopa

Neosho River Bridge in Chetopa

As we headed west back through Chetopa, the sun was putting on quite a display.

The sun was putting on a show for us as we headed back to Oswego, heading due west in Chetopa.

Labette Creek north of Chetopa was also out and I took a few pictures there.

Love the reflection of the trees in the water here.

As we arrived at Oswego we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.  It has been another busy, but productive day.

Monday, March 15, 2021 - Happy Birthday Cindy, Laundry, Paperwork, Bank Business, Picking Jaxson up At School; Marc Visits and Leftovers.

I was up fairly early this morning, despite the time change.  I have a list of things to get done today.  After turning the coffee pot on, I started another load of clothes.  I've not had the chance to get entirely caught up after our return to Kansas a few days ago with all that has been taking place.  I think today might be the day I will actually find the hamper empty!

We finally had everything here to make our protein shakes this morning.  It's been a few days since we had one, and I missed them.  I did the dishes from last night and breakfast, putting those away, before I started my paperwork.  We've received quite a bit of mail that I have not had time to deal with so it is high on my priority list for today.

Dean asked me to make an appointment for him to have an eye exam.  It's been well over a year and he needs some new glasses.

We are going back to Wichita on Thursday and stay through Sunday, so I called to make a reservation at the RV Park where we prefer to stay.  It's very close to both Heath & Jarred.  Fortunately, they had several sites available.  Heath's boys will be on spring break so we plan to spend at least one day with them.  I'm not sure what we will do yet, but we'll find something.  I hope the weather is decent.

Saturday is Emerson's birthday party, so we will be going to that Saturday evening.  We have a few things we want to do during the day Saturday.

Dean received a summary benefits from his drug benefit plan, and one of those was a discount on new eyeglasses.  The timing was perfect for making an eye appointment earlier.

It's time to start thinking about getting our taxes together.  Ugh!  I'll probably focus on that in a week or two.  Next week is spring break for Oswego & Parson schools.  Cindy and I plan to spend a day together, and I want Jaxson & Kamron to come over one day.  Hopefully we can get together with Haleigh, Dacy & Tucker sometime during the week as well.  With school and work, it's harder for them to fit everything in to their schedules.  At least we got to spend some time with Haleigh last week and I've seen her a couple of days this week at our grocery store here in Oswego where she works.

We needed to go to the bank to take care of several business things, so Dean and I both headed up there after lunch.  We enjoyed seeing everyone at the bank and visiting with them a bit.  The lobby is closed due to Covid, so we had to make an appointment to meet with them.

After leaving the bank, Dean went to the garage and I headed to Cindy's to give her a birthday card.  She rode along with me on my way to get Jaxson.  It's about a fifteen minute drive, so we had a chance to visit on the way there, and Jaxson always entertains us on the way back.  He was surprised to see me again.  He sure brightens my day!  He came home with me after I dropped Cindy off.  Marc is installing some cabinets in another town, and he's going to pick him up on his way home.  It wasn't too long until he arrived.  He stayed to visit for a little while and it was nice to get a chance to do that.  He's a busy guy.

I have another list for tomorrow, so it will be another busy day, but it keeps me up and moving, so I don't mind too much.  With all of the ice and snow, and now rain, everything needs a good cleaning.  Dean wants to get Bentley washed so badly.  I think this may be the dirtiest (outside!) I've seen it since we've owned it.  Hopefully we can get it done this week.

I had leftover spaghetti in the refrigerator from Thursday evening, so we ate the last of it for supper.  It hit the spot.  It might have been because it did not require me to actually make something, just a good warm up.  I'm thankful Dean likes leftovers as much as I do.

By 9:00pm my mind was almost mush, so I set this aside.

Tuesday, March 16, 2021  Last Load of Laundry, Our Printer Quit Working, Cleaning Bentley Inside, Updating our Monthly Budget, Chicken & Noodles for Dinner, Evening Drive

I was up about 5:45, started the coffee, put in the last load of clothes to wash, put a few dishes away after letting them dry overnight.  By the time the coffee was done, I was ready to set at my computer to read my devotional for the day and my Bible reading.  I ran across something I wanted to print.  The printer that worked perfectly yesterday, refused to work today.  When I tried to print, I got a message the colored ink was empty, so I put in a brand new cartridge, but it still will not work.  Back in December, you might remember Dean received a new Chromebook for Christmas.  It would not print to our printer.  I read online that you could get a printer cord and it would still work.  Will it didn't work on his, but it did on mine.  I printed several things yesterday with no problem, but today nothing.  At 9:26pm this evening it still will not work.  I've shut it down, restarted, etc.  In December we talked to someone at Best Buy about it.  He said whatever you do, do not replace your printer until after the first of the year as there are several new ones coming out that will work with the Chromebooks.  We want to be sure and purchase an inkjet when we do, versus the ink cartridges.  At this point, that may be our next step.  We don't print lots of stuff but we do use it several times a month.

After our shakes, I did my daily work, then Dean and I went to the garage.  Dean needed a haircut.  He looked like a new man when I was finished.  LOL!!!  I know he felt better.  I told him I took off enough I could have made a toupee for someone.  😅

He took me back to Bentley and he headed back to the garage.  He has started working along the property line on the south side, cleaning the underbrush and trash.  While he was busy doing that I decided to give Bentley a good dusting - from top to bottom, then swept and vacuumed the kitchen floor.  After the last few days, it seems like we have drug in a lot of small rocks and grass with the wet weather.  It is supposed to reach 70 today but I'm not sure if it is going to make it or not.   We had a light lunch, then Dean headed back to the garage.  I visited with Cindy for a bit in the afternoon.  We didn't get much of a chance to visit yesterday, so it was nice to really get caught up with her.  We are going to do something one day next week - since she is a cook at the school, she two will have the week off.

I utilized the chicken stock I had in the freezer that had thawed a bit to make chicken and noodles for dinner.  Now that is usually a cold winter meal for us, which at the time I thought was going to be great.  About 3:30 or so, the sun came out.  In no time it was in the 70's.  The soup was still really good.  It's a good thing as we are going to be eating it for a day or too!

After dinner, wanted to go for a drive.  As you know we like to do this and in my little car we get such great mileage we don't mind.  The river had dropped quite a bit and was within its banks tonight, although still higher than normal.  I'm glad Dean enjoys drives as much as I do.  I spent a lot of time with my grandparents (my dad's parents) when I was small.  They took a ride in the car every night.  I can remember driving in the rain and snow, it was a ritual.  I loved it then, especially when we stopped for ice cream, and I'm sure it's part of the reason I love it so much today.

Sunset taken from the RV Park this evening.

Goodnight all!

Thursday, March 11, 2021 - The Wind Has Settled, The Temps are Cooler, and The Rains Have Begun; Shopping Spree; Car Troubles??; Birthday Dinner with Misti

Thursday, March 11, 2021 - The Wind Has Settled, The Temps are Cooler, and The Rains Have Begun; Shopping; Car Troubles??; Birthday Dinner with Misti

What a busy day this has been.  I slept in a little this morning, it was 5:45 when I came downstairs to make coffee, and the 62 degree temps from yesterday had dropped to 49 this morning.  Brrrr!!  I turned the furnace up and turned the fireplace on too, to take the chill off.

Dean was happy to get breakfast sandwiches again this morning since I still have no protein powder for our shakes, but we WILL fix that, when we make a stop at Sam's.  I have my trusty list so I won't forget anything today.

The plan was to leave here by 9:30.  I know Dean thought I'd never be ready in time, but we walked out the door almost on the dot.  The wind had quieted but the skies were dark, and we could see the rain was headed our way.  It started to rain between Altamont and Oswego, and it continued all the way to Carthage, MO.  Our first stop was at Coachlight RV Store.  Lo and behold they had exactly what we wanted - with a lid that made me happy!  How happy can you be about buying a new toilet?  Lol!  Pretty happy, when we've had so many problems with it.  I pray this one will be much better.

Old toilet seat (I really dislike all of these pieces of plastic under the seat, and the edges are sharp).

New toilet and seat - it's sturdy with two small "braces" on the bottom of the lid that sit on the bowl like a normal house toilet.  It will be so much easier to clean.

Our next stop was Home Depot to get a couple of parts Dean needed.  He plans to install a shutoff valve on the new toilet, allowing us to shut it off from inside if we need to in the future.

By now it was a little past 11:30, so we headed to Olive Garden, where we used a gift card we received for Christmas.  I always have the same thing - soup (pasta fagioli) salad and breadsticks.  Today I splurged and had a raspberry lemonade to go with it, which was delicious.  Dean had chicken alfredo.  He brought half of his home, so that will be his lunch for tomorrow.

Our last stop was almost next door from Olive Garden, at Sam's to pick up a couple of items we like to keep on hand.  Fortunately, the heavy rains let up and the rest of the day it was mostly a light rain.  It made the drive home much better than the drive over.

We were leaving Joplin, having gone a little over 6 miles, when the "check engine" light came on in the car.  We pulled over so we could look at the manual.  Of course, it tells you it could be serious and not to drive it without checking to see what the problem is.  We called Toyota and the service manager we work with, Ashley answered the phone.  She told us to bring it in and they would run diagnostics on it to see what the problem was.  They were booked solid, so we were extremely appreciative they fit us in and quickly at that.  It was not a serious problem so we will not worry about it for today.   We were soon back on the road again.

We stopped in Oswego at the garage where we put a few things in the freezer.  The RV freezer does not have enough room for everything.

Tomorrow is daughter Misti's birthday.  She has plans for tomorrow evening, so we took her and granddaughter Haleigh to dinner tonight.  We met them at The Kitchen Pass in Parsons and had a nice visit.  Our meal was really great.  Everyone except Haleigh had the special, which was beef tips, with mashed potatoes and asparagus.  Haleigh had chicken tenders and waffle fries.  It was good to catch up with these two beauties since we had not seen them since returning from our Texas/Oklahoma trip.

We said our goodbyes, giving each other hugs before we headed back to Bentley.

Wednesday, March 10, 2021 - High Winds, Another Busy Day, Ending the Evening on a High Note

Wednesday, March 10, 2021 - High Winds, Another Busy Day, Ending the Evening on a High Note

My sleeping habits returned this morning.  I was awake at 4:45, and I could tell the wind was still blowing, but it did not seem too bad upstairs.  As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I could feel the RV shaking with these strong winds.  It rattled all morning long.  I intended to take pictures of the small lake behind us later in the day when I got out - I had noticed the white caps on it from inside, but I forgot to do that.  I was just trying to get out the door without it hitting the RV, then trying to get in the car before it blew me away....haha!  By the time I returned home, I didn't even think about it.

I had planned to do some laundry as soon as I got up, but then I remembered Dean had shut the water off outside.  We are using the pump to use water from our tank.  Our toilet has been leaking water into the bowl.  We keep an eye on it when we are here, and since we are on sewer, we aren't quite as concerned since it's not leaking into our black tank.  At night we turn the water off, and use the pump.  We do not want the toilet bowl to run over while we are asleep.  I'm not sure if it would - but we aren't taking any chances.  We turn the pump off when we go to bed, so if you get up in the night, you have to go downstairs, turn the pump on, go back upstairs to the bathroom, then turn the pump off again before going back to bed.  Sometimes that event can wake me up enough it's hard to fall asleep again.

Dean has taken things apart, worked on it and even though he repaired the same problem about a year and a half ago, he cannot get it to quit leaking.  I've hated the toilet since we purchased it, when I realized how difficult it was to clean underneath the seat. The seat is so cheaply made.  The original toilet had a nice lid, that was easy to clean and was sturdy - it might have been wood - it certainly felt like it compared to this flimsy piece of plastic we have now.  We have looked high and low for a new seat but could not find anything to replace it due to the size and fittings on this toilet.

Now we've made the decision to replace the toilet.  Dean did some research on repairs and he needs to replace the base and the water valve, which is about 1/2 the price of a new toilet.  We are at the point we'd rather just replace it than take the chance of having another problem in a few months, or a year....plus I'd still have that same old toilet seat that I do not like at all.

I tell you all of this now, because I waited until Dean got up so he could go out and turn the water on, before I started laundry this morning.  I could run the pump to do laundry, but it is pretty annoying to listen to the pump while it's filling the washer, and the sound is pretty loud near the shower, which is just the other side of Dean while he's sleeping.  I didn't want to wake him up.  Also, I'm a wimp, I was not going out in the wind trying to keep the door from flying out of my hand in the dark.  We both hope we find a solution to this and get it fixed the way it needs to be and soon.  He's a jewel, and he headed outside not long after he was up, so I could get laundry started.

When I was at Walmart yesterday (Tuesday) one of the main things I intended to get was the protein powder we use for our morning shakes.  I forgot to get it, and we were out of the powder this morning.  So what to fix for breakfast?  Breakfast sandwiches.  Dean had two sausage, egg and cheese on small hamburger buns.  I had bacon rather than sausage and they turned out pretty well.  I'm afraid he might want them more often.  LOL!

His right hip/leg has been bothering him for several weeks.  He decided when we returned to Kansas he was going to the chiropractor.  This morning he called to make an appointment and was able to get in to see Dr. Frisebee at 9:30.  He told me he felt a little better and I think tomorrow he will probably notice less discomfort as well.

He is such a good husband, and when I mentioned while we were eating lunch that I needed to stop to put gas in my car, he smiled and said, you don't have to.  He knew I needed it and took my car this morning, then stopped to fill it up.  He's a keeper!!

I made chicken salad for our lunch today.  Listening to one of the food shows on Facebook, Mama Sue said she used a little bit of smoked paprika in hers.  I tried it and I liked it.  I sliced 1/2 an avocado for each of us, then added it and the chicken salad on a low carb wrap.  They were delicious.

I managed to get two more loads of laundry done, before I left.  My cousin Barbara called to let me know they moved her doctor appointment from 1:30 to 3:30, but she needs to arrive 15 minutes early.  I left the RV park about 1:50.  Cindy called as I was leaving.  She left her cup in my car yesterday.  She set it in the holder behind us in the car, and then forgot it.  I told her I would run by and drop it off, asking her to watch for me.  She must have seen me coming, because she was outside as I drove up the drive.

I wanted to visit with Aunt Betty, Barbara's mom for a little bit before we left, so I arrived about 15 minutes early.  Barbara and I enjoyed visiting on the drive to Galena, while we were waiting at the clinic and again on the way home.  I think the doctor really helped her today.  She has a very badly torn hamstring that has caused her horrible spasms.  She had no pain after the shots they gave her or on the way home.  I'm anxious to see how she is doing today (Thursday).

After dropping her off at her home, I stopped at G&W to get a few groceries.  I pulled up next to my niece, Nikki.  I thought she was already inside, but when I looked up, she was just getting out of her car.  We visited for a bit before going inside to do our shopping.  I always enjoy getting to spend a little time with her.  It didn't take me long to gather up what I needed, and I was soon on my way to Bentley.

After putting the groceries away, I made spaghetti for dinner.  Yes it was from a jar, but it tasted great.

Last night I read this over and over.  I was so tired I just felt like it made no sense and I'm glad I waited until this morning to review it.  I made quite a few changes; and best of all, about 9:45 Logan called us.  It was so great to hear from him.  Gosh, I miss him.  I can only imagine how Mom and Dad feel, if I miss him that much.   I went from a tired, worn out Nana, to a happy, wide awake Nana as soon as I saw his name show up on my phone.  Amazing what a simple call from a child or grandchild can do to bring happiness to a parent or grandparent's life!

Thanks for following along.  I appreciate each of you and love hearing from you.  Thank you for your comments.

Tuesday, March 9, 2021 - Sleeping In, Water Repair, Laundry, Sister Visit, Time with Jaxson and Kamron.

Tuesday, March 9, 2021 - Slow Start to the Morning; Kitchen Sink Issues; Sister and Grandkid Visits

I was surprised to see what time it was when I woke. It was almost 6:30 and Dean was already up and the coffee was ready.  I felt well rested at least, and the coffee sure tasted good.  Dean was probably wondering about me, as it's seldom he gets up before I do.

After our coffee, I got up to make our shakes.  I keep the containers we mix them in, under the sink on the top shelf.  I have a hand soap on the counter by the kitchen sink.  I forgot to take it out from under the counter yesterday.  When I reached down to get it this morning, I found the hand soap had spilled on the top shelf and was on my shake containers.  I pulled everything on that shelf out.  I keep the slip proof shelf liner on all of my cabinets, so I had to wash it and leave it out to dry, as well as the two shake containers.  Finally, after all of that, we were able to have our morning shakes.  It just so happens, Dean is going to work on the cold water under the kitchen sink this morning, so after enjoying our morning shakes, I went ahead and emptied the bottom cabinet as well.  The entire area got a good cleaning this morning.  It never hurts to do that occasionally anyway.

We have a water softener on our water system.  When we had the ice and snow a couple of weeks or so ago in Texas, Dean unhooked the softener for fear it would freeze.  Evidently some gunk must have broke loose somewhere and blocked all but a slight trickle from the cold water line.  Dean had already checked everything else, inside and out.  After he worked on it, it was just what he thought.  After cleaning that up, we now have both hot and cold water at the kitchen sink.  I decided it was a good time to pull out the vacuum and go over the floors and carpets since it had been awhile since I last did that chore.

Once the water situation was done, I started the first of many loads of clothes I will do over the next day or two.  I need jeans so they were first on the agenda today.  I didn't have time to do a second load, but I'll do that later this evening. Cindy rode with me to Parsons (Walmart), then we stopped to pick Jaxson up at his school on the way back (he didn't know I was picking him up, so he was sure surprised).  I dropped Cindy off at her house, then Jaxson and I went on to Altamont.  First we went to the RV for awhile as I had a couple of things for him.  The wind today has been 25-35 miles an hour, with gusts up to 40mph.  He didn't like the way Bentley shook.  He had never experienced anything like it and thought surely it was a tornado.  Later, Marc told me had recently heard/learned information about tornadoes with the upcoming spring weather, so it was on his mind.  Kamron was home from school when we arrived so I got the chance to visit with her for a while too.  It was sure good to see those two.  I still need to see Haleigh and hopefully soon!!

The RV is sitting with the back to the south.  The wind is coming straight from the south, so I've had to be very careful opening the door, so it doesn't get away from me.  Yesterday it almost knocked me down the steps as I wasn't quite prepared for how strong the wind was.  I was much more careful about it today.  When I carried groceries in, I just opened the door and fastened it outside until I could get everything inside, then went back out to to unfasten it, and close it.

Dean was already at the RV when I returned from Altamont - the RV Park, owned and operated by the City of Altamont, is located a few miles south of town.  I had not even thought about dinner, so what to have?  I found some leftover taco soup in the freezer.  I warmed it up and made a cheese quesadilla to go with it.  It hit the spot.  I knew Dean would probably still be hungry, so I offered a couple of cookies (Nestle's packaged cookie dough) or some canned cinnamon rolls.  I love the cookie dough as I can cut off 2 or 4 small pieces and cook them in the convection oven, which means we are not tempted to eat more than we should.  Tonight Dean wanted the cinnamon rolls.  They were pretty good.

Cinnamon Rolls were pretty good.

Monday, March 8, 2021 - Moving to Altamont, Kansas

Monday, March 8, 2021 - Moving to Idle Hour RV Park, Altamont, Kansas

All of the sightseeing we did the last few days must have worn me out.  It was almost 5:30 before I woke up this morning.  It was much warmer this morning, somewhere in the mid 50's.  I still had to turn the furnace up, but not as much as we have been.

When Dean got up a short time later, he said I think we just need to go back home rather than staying here another day, or trying to find someplace else to stay for several days.  I agreed with him, so after our shake, we started packing things up.

I could hear planes flying around the park, rising up and then coming down quickly.  When I had all my work done inside, I came outside to find this plane!  I tired several time taking pictures but he was elusive - he'd dip behind a tree, or drop so quickly he would disappear behind the hill across the river from us.  Finally I got a half way decent shot right before we hitched up the truck to leave the park.

See that little white speck in the middle - that was the plane that was diving and going up and up and diving again.   When I looked at the pictures earlier I didn't think I got it - but there it is, I did it!

To the right side, of the tree to the right, you can see the plane getting ready to drop behind the treeline.  It was fun watching them.

It was 10:13am when we pulled out of Great Salt Plains State Park and headed north toward the Kansas border.  It was approximately 11:20 when we passed into Kansas near Arkansas City.  I couldn't help but take these pictures of our drive and the great big beautiful sky here in Kansas.

I love the countryside and that beautiful sky overhead.  It was a bit windy today, but it was not a problem for my driver.

We decided to stay in Altamont at Idle Hour RV Park for 10 days.  Part of that is to spend time with Marc, Jen and the kids.  We are going to drive to Wichita early Saturday morning to watch grandson Roman play basketball - his last game of this year's season.  We'll drive back after his game.  We'll stay in Altamont for a few more days until we take Bentley with us to Wichita again the following weekend to help celebrate Emerson's birthday and to spend time with the grandson's.  When we return from Wichita, we'll head back to Oswego.

After we set up, we drove to Oswego.  Dean needed to get some parts for the water hookup outside from the hardware store, and I wanted to get my car while we were there.  He stayed at the garage to gather up a few things, and I returned to Altamont.  I talked to Marc later and asked him about picking Jaxson up at school tomorrow, so I will be doing that.  I told him not to let Jaxson know so I could surprise him.  Of course, when I take him home I'll see Kamron as well.  I went by Haleigh's while I was in Oswego but she wasn't home.  She was most likely working.  Before I pick Jaxson up I'll stop at the grocery store tomorrow to get a few things we need and hopefully I'll catch her then.

We were both tired so I called an order into MJ's Burgers in Altamont.  They make amazing cheeseburgers and homemade fries.  We ate too much, but they were good.  I need to walk tomorrow!!!

Good night all.
