July 10-14, 2020 - Plans Change - Travels Postponed for Another Week
Before starting this post, I wanted to let you know we are now utilizing follow.it that replaces Blogger's Feed Burner, which they decided to eliminate. Everything else is the same. The signup for Travels with Bentley is in the column on the right hand side of the blog below the "About Me" section.
I want to thank everyone who reached out to me when I noted Blogger/Follow.it was making a change to allow readers to follow our blog. I am not a techy person when it comes to this kind of thing, and I fear I let it throw me into a bit of a quandary about what to do. So, I apologize for the misinformation in the post before last, but the changes have been made. I just want to express my gratitude to those of you who take time to read about our little corner of the world, and who wanted to make sure they continued to receive our posts. It made my day!
In regards to the topic of this post, we are still working on the transfer of the property we purchased. Since we will be gone for several weeks, we want it completed before we leave. The plan is to finish by Friday (July 16). Hopefully, we can leave the 17th or 18th. Say a little prayer for us that everything falls in to place!
I attended a couple of luncheons last week. The first one was with classmates from High School, who live nearby. It was held at my best friends house, who recently moved to Oswego. Cheryel, myself and another classmate Jamie met a few months ago to have lunch. From that, we thought it would be great to invite other classmates in the area to attend as well. I missed the first group gathering, so I was glad we were here for this one. I think everyone has really enjoyed our time together. Before I left Cheryel gave me this beautiful "RV" quilt she made for us. I was so surprised and touched she made it.

The following day I met with two other dear friends I've had the pleasure of working with for many years, as we all served together in a couple of community groups. We've have so many good times over the years. It is such a blessing to have friends to share with.
This past Saturday night we had a great evening with my sister Cindy and her husband Elmer, playing Wahoo and Pitch. We haven't had the chance to get together for several weeks. It was really nice to relax and enjoy our time with them. Cindy made a delicious cherry cheesecake. Mmmm!
Dean bought a new toy and spent Saturday morning at the lot "playing" with it. It's a pole saw he can use to cut limbs down; and there were many low hanging limbs that needed to go. After lunch, he was ready to go back and work on them some more. I'm headed down there shortly so I can see what he's been up to.
I took several pictures of the lot, but with all of the pictures I took when the kids/grandkids were here it's taking a while to get everything uploaded. This morning (Thurs, July 15) they finally loaded. From now on I'll review the pictures for shorter periods of time. I had so many pictures to go through. I eliminated more than I kept, then cropped them all, resulting in much more time than I should have spent over the past two days. A good lesson reminding me to do this right away, rather than wait.

A recent area he has cleaned up and now trying to get grass to grow. |
After I arrived, I noticed the pile of limbs (his burn pile--just behind the orange oriole feeder in the picture above) that he will burn later this fall. The trees look so much nicer with those low limbs trimmed, and it will sure be better for Dean when he mows, not having to duck around the branches all the time.
We have a pear tree at the lot that is just loaded with fruit. Something sure likes them - possibly deer, as there are several partly eaten pears laying on the ground under a few lower hanging branches. My niece's husband told us he often saw the deer eating the pears from the tree when they owned the property. I wish we could be there to see that. All in time.
I've been busy making changes for our travels to Nevada to see Dean's son Brett and his family. Because of our extra week here, we will be traveling daily, arriving just a couple of days later than our original travel plan. On our trip home, we will slow down and visit a couple of states we've not traveled to before. So far we've not had any issues finding a place to stay, and I hope that continues.
We completed the purchase of the property immediately north of us (Tuesday, July 13). It was originally part of the property we now own. A previous owner sold it, and it was used as a daycare for several years. It's really gone down hill. Our plan is to clean up around the building, cutting brush this fall, so we'll be eliminate the weeds and small trees that have grown up around it.
Later, I stopped by Cindy's to help her with a project, and she gave me some fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini. After I returned home, I texted Misti about getting together before we leave. Since she was working in Pittsburg today, we decided to meet in Columbus at the Mexican restaurant for dinner. We sure enjoyed spending time with her, visiting during and after our meal.
Today (Wednesday, July 14), I ran errands all morning, then spent the afternoon making the final changes for the first leg of our trip west, Oswego, KS to Winnemucca, NV where Brett lives. I still have more reservations to make, but I'll tackle those Friday and Saturday. We are leaving on Monday, July 19, and I hope you will follow along.
The quilt is gorgeous! What a special gift! Your property is beautiful! You have been busy for sure. Hoping you enjoy Winnemucca, we sure did. Just too far from the grandkids. Looking forward to following your travels once again!
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirley! We are sure excited to arrive in Winnemucca! I wish we weren't rushing so fast to get there, but we plan to slow it down as we make our way back to Kansas. I've missed blogging so much. I look forward to our adventures, the scenery and people we may meet.
