Friday, August 7, 2015 - Lampe Marina Campground, Erie, PA

When I woke up and checked the time on my cell phone I was quite surprised to see it was already 6:45.  Dean was up and the coffee was made.  We slept with the windows open last night so maybe it was the fresh cool air.  Whatever, it was a very good and restful night.

After coffee, and time to read my morning blogs, we headed out for breakfast.  Dean always eats breakfast out on Friday mornings, so today was no different.  We headed back to the Dutch Valley Restaurant where we ate dinner last night.  I chose to eat their yogurt, fresh fruit (blueberries & strawberries) with their homemade granola.  It was very good.  Dean had the Village Scramble which included eggs, sausage, hash browns and cheese.  He said it was pretty good but he was disappointed the homemade bread used for toast was not as good as he expected.

On the way back I took a few pictures of some of the homes in Sugarcreek.  Here are a few.  These are mild compared to many yards where flowers were in abundance.  I'm sure the cooler temperatures here has been a benefit.  I wish I would have taken pictures last night but sometimes I get caught up in what I am seeing and forgot all about the camera.

Houses with flowers in Sugarcreek.

Once back home, we were soon packed up and ready to go.  We are headed to Erie, PA where we will be parking in a marina campground near Lake Erie.  We both really enjoy being by the water so we look forward to another water side location.

Our drive today was pretty uneventful.  Once we reached this sign on the highway I tried hard to get Dean to stay on route as I've always wanted to visit New York City, but he wouldn't have any of it.

I was anxious to see the water for the first time and here it is.  Yes you will have to click and zoom in to see it but I promise it is there.  The one below is a snap of the marina we drove by on our way to the campground.

I thought the entrance into the campground was welcoming, as shown in the first picture below.  We arrived at the campground about 1:30 and were soon set up.  We were a bit disappointed we can not see the water while sitting outside, but we can see it from inside Bentley.  Here are a few pictures.

Looking out the door.

Looking out the back window.

I zoomed in for this picture so you can see it a little better.

After resting for just a bit, and give us time to wind down from the drive, we decided to take a walk up the road and out onto the pier.  There were quite a few people fishing.  We visited with two couples.  The first one told us they were fishing for crappie - (they pronounced it crap-pea), and the second couple we visited with about the park itself.  She encouraged us to take the drive around the pier and out on to a point that is just west of us where a lighthouse is located and the swimming beaches are.  We might do that after dinner.

I took a few pictures to share from our walk.

The pier closest to us.

Dean walked clear to the end while I waited.

Looking back toward Bentley and the campground.

We are cooking here tonight.  I have some pork ribs to BBQ and some scalloped potatoes, along with one last tomato and then we are out.  Cindy, can you ship us more?  Just kidding!

After sitting outside for about 10 minutes after we returned from our walk and I had to come inside.  The wind coming off of the water is just down right cold.  It's great in Bentley with the windows open.  If you all are still getting those high temperatures at home I wish I could send some of this your way.

Campground Info:  This is a great campground with paved sites, back-in only.  Water and Electric (50 amp) at each site.  There are 3 dump stations in the campground.  Rate was highest we've paid but for a Friday night right near the water $30 wasn't too bad and the highest price we've paid all week.  Our average price per night for the entire trip has been $18.  Sure beats a hotel, and we have our own bed, food, chairs, bathroom, and frig.  What more can you ask for?  We do have a good Verizon signal.  We did not try Dish but we easily picked up a number of stations with just our antenna.

After our dinner, we took a drive over to Isle de Presque State Park.  If you would like to know more about it here is the link.  www.presqueisle.org The west side has several miles of sand beaches and the sunset was beautiful.  Here are a few shots.

A beautiful ending to another great day.
